Oh that's a cute one. Imagine how the President will miss being able to scratch behind his little friend's ear when he's thinking about some great problem in the world. Such a little thing, but I'm sure it will affect him when he feels the urge to reach out for Spot.

Thanks for putting the pictures up. I don't know how to do that. Love the tennis ball in the swimming pool photo.

If someone tells me they 'don't like animals', they don't ever have to worry about hearing from me again.
[Yes...I ~am~ that "unreasonable"].....:)

Years ago we had a "very good friend" come into the living room one day.
My beloved elderly dog walked over to where he sat, wagging her tail and nosing his leg just to say "hi".
He shoved her away hard enough to upset her already iffy balance.
I'll never forget the cold look on his face or the shocked look on hers as she experienced the only unkindness she'd ever known in her life.

Up until that moment, I loved the guy like a brother.

Ain't had diddly to do with him, since.

Same goes for who my dogs like or dislike.
I have Ibizan Hounds and to say they're "offish" is the understatement of the year.
They want nothing to do with anyone outside of the "pack".
Yet, the night they met the man who would later become my husband, they mobbed him like he was long-lost kin.

Within the space of 10 minutes I knew I'd found The One....;))

You cannot expect anything from a mutt. I want to know what to expect from a dog before I choose one.

Whatever makes you happy. I put down mutts.

I wouldn't trust you with any animal, if that is your attitude.

It's been almost exactly a year since we lost our Siamese at 16. We can still barely speak her name without tearing up. Even after we got another Siamese (by default, but now deeply loved), we still miss her deeply.

BUSH KILLS HELPLESS PUPPY DOG
by Irving J. Schlump, Staff Reporter

WASHINGTON: President Bush, through his spokesman Scott McClellan, on Saturday admitted responsibility for the death of a cute little puppy dog named "Spot". The 15-year-old English springer spaniel, who was reportedly full of life and vitality despite his advanced years, was suddenly and unexplainably executed via a procedure that McClellan ominously termed "putting to sleep."

McClellan would not answer repeated questions as to exactly what being "put to sleep" involves, but a Washington veterinarian interviewed by the Times assured this reporter that whatever it was could potentially be seen as quite painful and shocking. The procedure was carried out in private, away from the national media coverage through which the American people's right to know about these matters is ordinarily served and raising further doubt as to what may have gone on behind those closed doors. Indeed, by the end of the day, some were beginning to draw parallels between Spot's untimely demise and the vast number of executions carried out by Bush during his term as Governor of Texas.

"It's Karla Faye Tucker all over again," declared one well-placed Washington insider. "Mr. Bush ignored her pleas for mercy, and now he has turned up his nose at the final, pitiful barks of poor Spot." The insider predicted that Spot's mysterious demise would become a potent political issue in this election year.

Senator John F. Kerry, decorated Vietnam War combat vet (see related story and full-page color photos of Kerry's medals, page A2) and Democratic front-runner for President, called a press conference late Sunday to express his grief for the execution of Spot, an act which he noted had not been submitted to the United Nations for consideration. "Indeed," Kerry remarked, "one could fairly draw a link between Spot's demise and the Bush policy of pre-emption

I can't believe how much you can love a dog you never met. Spotty was the sweetest little dog, you can just tell by looking at her.

I remember about a year ago, the President said something like, "We know Spot is nearing the end of her life" -- I can't remember what else -- but like all animal-lovers, it was obvious he was preparing himself to let her go. Think how much poor little Barney will miss her too.

Another of my favorite Spot photos.

I had my dog for nine years. I had her put to sleep eighteen years ago. I was heartbroken and have never had another pet since. Fortunately, I eventually got married.

To each his own...

I am one of those who prefers to give those "throw-away-dogs" that people like you don't care about, a loving home.

PHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT on you.
