I have not seen the movie, but certainly plan to.
I am not Catholic, but find no need to start mixing it up in that argument.
Isn't it a shame that the focus can't be the real story here, whether or not one agrees with every detail? I am simply thrilled that millions are flocking to a movie that brings their attention to what Jesus Christ did for us and it is happening in the Lenten season.
Not only will it likely bring many to their knees, but it may also make this Easter and the celebration of the Resurrection more meaningful to people who haven't thought about it in a long time.
I believe that fighting amongst ourselves is the last thing Jesus wants us to do.

The "physical pain" (human) and suffering that Christ suffered "in the flesh" on the tree that day, was nothing compared to His REAL SUFFERING.
We often hear of the physical pain that Christ suffered on the cross for out sins. The pain of the nails being driven into His hands and feet, and how excruciating the pain must have been when the cross was righted and dropped into the hole that supported the cross.
We hear how this sudden jerk widened the nail holes, as Christ's body weight was supported only by the nails driven through His flesh. All this is true, but emphasizing only on the physical pain, MASKS the real pain our Lord suffered which far outweighed the physical.
God chose to have Him die a shameful and physically excruciating death, but we cannot look at Christ's death on only that perspective. There is much more to His death than that outlook alone.
The thing that God hates MOST is SIN, and God placed ALL the sins of the world, past, present and future, on Him as He hung on the Tree. Not only "that" but Christ BECAME SIN on the Cross-that day. (2 Cor 5:21)
It was so hard for God to bear - He turned away and Jesus asked my God, why have you forsaken me? He didn't of course.
When Jesus was dying He stated "IT IS FINISHED" (John 19:30) and it is. It is not the crucification that is so important but the fact that He took on our sin because He loves us all and ideally wants all of us to be with Him in heaven. Of course not ALL will be there with Him.
It was SIN that killed Christ. It was OUR sin - the sins of the Jews and the Gentiles. The wages of sin is death and He willingly took on our punishment.
From the 6th hour (around noon) to the 9th hour (3 p.m.) Christ was SPIRITUALLY SUFFERING on that Tree. God had abandoned/turned His back on His Son., as Christ has BECOME SIN "for us" and God cannot look upon sin. (Mark 15:33-37) God cannot tolerate sin. He is Holy so He had to look away.
Nor is it for me. And I'm the same age.
In fact, the image on The Shroud is what invariable comes to mind at appropriate moments of reflection and prayer.

Show me where in the Bible does it say that we are to pray to Mary? Or pray to saints? HOw about where in the bible does it say that there are to be Bishops, Popes, priests? It ain't there.
You need to look at the Catholic church as a man made institution that God does not respect.
The catholic church is now trying to cover up homosexual boy rape in its priesthood.
It is responsible for repression of knowledge, the deaths of millions and it loves money...it is the wealthiest of all institutions in this world.
Jesus said that the love of money is the root of all evil. It is far easier for a camel to go throught the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter heaven.
Tell that to the catholic cardinals that have those great big beach houses on the east coast right next to the rock stars and movie stars.
Catholic romanism is not what Jesus taught.

If you had ben properly instructed by the Church, you would have known that we do not "pray to Mary" or the saints, but instead ask them to pray for us. You would know that the authority of the Bishop of Rome was handed down from Peter to his successors. You would know that even in Paul's time he was talking of bishops. You would understand apostolic succession.
You would know that God founded the Catholic Church.
If you had been properly taught, you would know that the homosexual boy rapists shame the other 96% of the priesthood, and that any bishop who enabled more such crimes was acting against the spirit of the Church.
You would know that the Catholic Church kept the light of knowledge shining through the Dark Ages, educated millions and has fed as many people as any other organization on earth.
If you had been properly taught, you would know that priests swear an oath of poverty, and most rely on the Church for everything.
And if you had been properly taught, you would know that, though the Papacy has had its headquarters in Rome since before the Bible was compiled, the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus in the Holy Land.
But because your priest failed in teaching you these basic facts, you now have a completely warped understanding of the Church. I hope you educate yourself and come home.
OK, here's a place to start. Mr. Webb's anti-Cathlic diatribe is apparently extracted from something called Banner of Truth (subtitle) Biblical Christianity Through Literature.
Are we to gather that Mr. Webb sometimes finds something of theological worth in literature?
But, no, we soon find him incensed that 'The script for The Passion of the Christ contains much extrabiblical material, and is based in part on a mystical Roman Catholic devotional work by an 18th century German Nun (Sister Anne Emmerich)"
Then can literature only contribute as long as it is not written by a Priest or Nun?
