SHOW: CNN CROSSFIRE 19:30 pm ET

November 12, 1997; Wednesday 7:30 pm Eastern Time

Transcript # 97111200V20

JOHN SUNUNU, CROSSFIRE: Senator Kerry, in fact, in spite of the administration claiming it has restored unanimity, that has not occurred. All the strength of this resolution had to be pulled out of it get any votes at all other than our own. Isn't this exercise actually counterproductive in sending a signal to Iraq that the coalition still remains frayed?

SEN. JOHN KERRY, (D), MASSACHUSETTS, FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE: Well, John, you're correct that this resolution is less than we would have liked. I don't think anybody can deny that we would have liked it to have threatened force and we would have liked it to carry the term serious consequences will flow. On the other hand, the coalition is together. I mean the fact is there is a unanimous statement by the security council and the United Nations that there has to be immediate, unrestricted, unconditional access to the sites. That's very strong language. And it also references the underlying resolution on which the use of force is based. So clearly the allies may not like it, and I think that's our great concern -- where's the backbone of Russia, where's the backbone of France, where are they in expressing their condemnation of such clearly illegal activity, but in a sense, they're now climbing into a box and they will have enormous difficulty not following up on this if there is not compliance by Iraq.

...

KERRY: Well, John, there's absolutely no statement that they have made or that they will make that will prevent the United States of America and this president or any president from acting in what they believe are the best interests of our country. And obviously it's disappointing. It was disappointing a month ago not to have the French and the Russians understanding that they shouldn't give any signals of weakening on the sanctions and I think those signals would have helped bring about this crisis because they permitted Saddam Hussein to interpret that maybe the moment was right for him to make this challenge.

...

SUNUNU: But isn't what he has seen is a loss of U.S. leadership and an erosion under an administration that has failed to lead?

KERRY: On the contrary. The administration is leading. The administration is making it clear that they don't believe that they even need the U.N. Security Council to sign off on a material breach because the finding of material breach was made by Mr. Butler. So furthermore, I think the United States has always reserved the right and will reserve the right to act in its best interests. And clearly it is not just our best interests, it is in the best interests of the world to make it clear to Saddam Hussein that he's not going to get away with a breach of the '91 agreement that he's got to live up to, which is allowing inspections and dismantling his weapons and allowing us to know that he has dismantled his weapons. That's the price he pays for invading Kuwait and starting a war.

...

KERRY: Correct, absolutely correct, and I believe, and they stood with us today and I am saying to you that it is my judgment that by standing with us today and calling for the unrestricted, unconditional, unlimited, you know, access, they have now taken a stand that they are duty bound to enforce and if Saddam Hussein doesn't do that, the president, I think, has begun a process which you remember very well, John, was not done in one week, in one day, in one month. It took months to weave together the fabric to lead up to an understanding of what was at stake. I am convinced that many people have not yet even focused in full measure on what is at stake.

...

PRESS: Are you suggesting, are you calling for a military, U.S. military strike against Iran now before...

SUNUNU: Iraq.

PRESS: Iraq, I'm sorry, before any other United Nations action is taken?

KING: No, I'm saying is that very soon, though, we would have to use the threat of military force because as Bill Richardson said that this, these are delaying tactics brought about by the Iraqis and this is very serious. When you're talking about biological warfare and when you're talking about the fact that they've already adjusted the cameras, they've already fooled around with the equipment which gauges the air, they've already moved some of the devices away from the U.N. inspectors. This is a very, very serious situation and I'm saying that we would have to, I think, threaten very severe military action at an early date. Now exactly what that would be is obviously, we have to get more information on it, but based on I think what all of us know, it is very, very critical and not too much time more can be wasted.

I'm so glad you've reposted this.

I've sent it to the RNC in my state, Marc Racicot, Bush, Hannity, Savage, Boortz and my state senator.

Now if the administration would just use it!

This probably wasn't the best week to send them stuff so I'll do it again next week.

A lot of media types won't open a link sent them via e-mail because of virus fears.

I've copied and pasted the transcript into an e-mail. The transcript clearly outlines which number it is so the media can get a copy from the archives to verify.

Since the TV and Cable newsrooms refuse to expose this traitor I will.
Odd how the internet and talk radio know he's a traitor
BUT the TV and Cable newsrooms won't "question his patriotism".

Only idiots would vote for a traitor.

My favorite post for DUmmies and trolls.

"I’m an internationalist. I’d like to see our troops dispersed through [sic] the world
only at the directive of the United Nations."
Hanoi John Kerry, The Harvard Crimson, 1970

HANOI KERRY
has a Campaign Platform
Just like the old days!

"It is a fact that in the entire Vietnam War we did not lose one major battle.
We lost the war at home and at home John Kerry was the field general"

- Bob Elder, Swift Boat Veteran For Truth

"I do not believe John Kerry is fit to be commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces,"
said retired Rear Adm. Roy Hoffmann, chairman of the organization.
"This is not a political issue. It is a matter of honesty."

I was there the same time Hanoi Kerry was.
I served on the destroyer USS Corry DD-817 which supplied PCF's and PBR's
and gave gunfire support in North AND South Viet Nam.
My ship may have even supplied Hanoi Kerry's boat.
I VOW I will do everything I LEGALLY can
to keep this traitor from being elected.

The book that Kerry
wishes would just go away.
HanoiJohnKerry.com is a blog with a primary purpose. That purpose is to counter the preposterous claims of Sen. John Forbes Kerry (D-MA) that he has any legitimate claim to any sort of "brotherhood" among combat veterans of the War in Vietnam.

While it is generally supposed that his service as a Naval officer on a "Swift Boat" in that theater was adequate and honorable, there is much to question regarding his readiness to allow the accolade "war hero" to be applied to him.

Likewise, it is not at all uncommon for more senior Naval officers to raise an eyebrow at the swiftness and relative comfort by which Lt. JG Kerry attained those medals, and who is available to vouch for the efficacy of his being awarded them (since, as boat commander, it would be his own task to make recommendation for awards for all personnel, including himself, on the Swift Boat).

But most egregious was his conduct, words and associations upon his early-out (from SEA) return to the USA and discharge from the US Navy. His leadership role with the radical pro-Communist (inaccurate to deem this group "anti-war") group called "Vietnam Veterans Against the [Vietnam] War" (hereafter VVAW).

It was while climbing the social and political ladder of the pro-Soviet Left as a principle of VVAW that John Kerry found his political soul-mate in Hanoi Jane Fonda. Granted, these politically formative years for Kerry were prior to the more outlandish acts of Fonda that earned her that name, but it is easily documentable that Fonda did not under go any radical transformation in belief or character from the time she and Kerry were working the same side of the street to the time she traveled to Hanoi, NVN and entered US history as the most overt traitor to ever NOT be charged, tried and executed.

John Kerry went to his own overt extremes to demonstrate that, politically, socially and in lowness of character, there wasn't a nickel's worth of difference between he and Fonda. Thus, in the spirit of fairness and accuracy, we are reasonably certain that he will be agreeably flattered by calling him Hanoi John Kerry.

Here, testifying before the Fulbright Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is where John Kerry, spokesman for Vietnam Veterans Against the War, cemented his position and moniker as "Hanoi John" Kerry. This was the occasion where US troops still in the field in Vietnam learned from one of their FORMER brothers-in-arms that they were heinous murderers and war criminals. HJK would now like to call on them for support in his bid to be the new Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. Perhaps the most preposterous hypocrisy of all.

Can't wait for Kerry to go away.
Hopefully, the Clintons will be going away at the same time, disappearing itno obscurity.
I can't think of anything more fitting, since Kerry will 'need' the backing of nostalgic libero-creeps loyal to the 'Toons to be able to have a chance at Dim loyal states.
Shipping them all to Mars to study the atmosphere there would be better, actually, but illegal and immoral.
The traitor needs and deserves a traitor's reward, but it likely won't happen.

Well we know FOX News is getting paid to run ads for this traitor.
FOX could have waited till after President Reagan's funeral.
This is the 1st time I've seen Kerry ads on FOX.

I'm glad President Reagan is not alive to see this.

Isn't it the campaign itself who is running the ads? I heard something yesterday that both Bush and Kerry will pull all their ads running Friday, so as not to conflict with the Reagan Funeral in D.C.

If the campaigns are responsible for when their ads run, then I'm glad FNC ran Kerry's ad. With this wall-to-wall Reagan coverage, it is a reminder of how out of place Kerry is AGAIN, and perhaps will make people think twice (those on the fence) that he has NO place in the White House.

Again, I don't know the rules/details, but this MSNBC article talks about campaign ads as if the campaigns themselves decide when and where to run them.

Kerry is just making himself look even more shallow than we all knew he already was :)

The media can run ads for Kerry for as long as he can afford to pay for them.
So much for his pledge to "suspend campaigning" til after President Reagan's burial.

He flip-flopped on this one quicker than usual.

There is going to be at least one debate.

I sure hope President Bush's reelection team has all this stuff documented to use during said debates.

"Again, I don't know the rules/details'

It's simple, those who gave aid and comfort to the enemy
should be banned from running for office.
ESPECIALLY Commander-in Chief
And the media should be banned from showing their commercials.
The media is as just as guilty of treason as Hanoi Kerry.
They hide his past.

I was there the same time Hanoi Kerry was.
I served on the destroyer USS Corry DD-817 which supplied PCF's and PBR's
