TX GOP Primary Alert - Beware of Liberal Democrats' Intervention in Our Primary
"Texas Republican Activists" <TexasRepublicans@netscape.net> | March 4, 2004 | Matthew Griffing, Phil Magness and Brian Bodine

Brian Bodine, Chairman, University of Texas College Republicans;

March 4, 2004

Dear Fellow Republican,

It is great to be the majority party in Texas, but with this achievement comes the danger that liberal Democrats will attempt to manipulate our primary to undermine conservative Republican candidates. This danger is even greater now that leftist John Kerry has secured the presidential nomination.

We should be pleased when any remaining conservative Democrats join our party and participate in our open primary. However, we write to warn you of multiple attempts by liberal Democrats, who have no intention of voting Republican in November, to skew our primary process.

Earlier this week, Travis County Republican Party Chairman Alan Sager placed an automated call to Republican primary voters advising them that some Austin Democrats are planning to vote in the Republican primary in order to select "Uncommitted" for President solely for the purpose of embarrassing President Bush.

Second, liberal Democrat donors are contributing large sums of money to some candidates running as Republicans.

The most blatant example of this is Paul Green, who is challenging conservative Republican Texas Supreme Court Justice Steven Wayne Smith. Paul Green has received tens of thousands of dollars from wealthy Democrats who are huge donors to liberal politicians such as Ted Kennedy, Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore, and Sheila Jackson Lee.

Tonight, Richard and Ginni Mithoff, who are liberal Democrat donors to Hillary Clinton's PAC, John Edwards, and the Planned Parenthood PAC, are hosting a fundraiser at their home for Paul Green.** As one of the plaintiff's lawyers in the Texas tobacco suit, Mithoff pocketed $10 million in legal fees that would have been better used to benefit the public.

Paul Green has also raised over a thousand dollars from the law firm Smyser, Kaplan & Veselka and its individual named partners. The firm and each of its named partners are large donors to liberal Democrats like Al Gore. Smyser, Kaplan & Veselka are also the lawyers for Planned Parenthood and have donated thousands of firm dollars to support Planned Parenthood's abortion facilities.

Harry Reasoner, the lawyer who defended racial quotas at the University of Texas in the Hopwood case which he lost to Steven Wayne Smith, is now taking revenge with his wallet. Reasoner, a big donor to Tom Daschle and other liberal Democrats, has given $1,000 to Paul Green.

Even Carlos Zaffirini, lawyer for the fugitive Texas Democrat legislators, donor to John Kerry, and husband of liberal Democrat State Sen. Judith Zaffirini, has given $5,000 to Paul Green.

The website www.paulgreendemocrats.com fully documents Paul Green's extensive network of liberal Democrat donors and provides proof for all of the contributions and facts referenced above.

It is disingenuous for a candidate to raise large sums of money from liberal Democrats and then use those funds to campaign for conservative Republican primary votes.

Believe it or not, some liberal Democrats are actually running as Republicans in this primary.

Conservative Republican Ernest Garcia faces Bill Green in the primary for the Austin-based 3rd Court of Appeals. Bill Green has voted in numerous Democrat primaries and worked for a liberal Democrat state legislator. Bill Green has never had a client and has never tried a case.

In the race for the Houston-based 14th Court of Appeals, Lloyd Oliver, who ran previously as a Democrat, is challenging highly respected Republican incumbent Justice Eva Guzman.

Finally, liberal Democrats are seeking to skew our Republican primary through their dominance of the media. We would strongly encourage you to disregard virtually all newspaper endorsements.

Polls have consistently shown that 90% of journalists are Democrats. While newspapers frequently write endorsements to give the appearance that their decisions are based on the qualifications of the candidates, this is often simply a cover for selecting the more liberal Republican.

Please be sure to vote in early voting through Friday, March 5 or on election day Tuesday, March 9. Please also encourage all your fellow Republicans to go to the polls and share this message with them. This is our best and, indeed, our only defense against attempts by liberal Democrats to manipulate our primary.

Sincerely,

Matthew Griffing Vice Chairman for Legislative Affairs Young Conservatives of Texas *

Phil Magness Project Chairman East Gulf Coast Republican Assembly *

Brian Bodine, Chairman University of Texas College Republicans *

*Organizations listed for identification purposes only.

**Fundraiser for Paul Green was held tonight, March 4 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm by liberal Democrat tobacco trial lawyer Richard Mithoff at his River Oaks home in Houston. Verified by phone call to Mithoff's law office at 12:15pm Thursday, March 4. Receptionist confirmed event was for Paul Green and provided directions.

Please go to your precinct conventions after the polls close too, and take some resolutions!

I know a Republican Party official here in Kansas who is, in fact a liberal Democrat. He says that the activist Democrats in this state long ago gave up voting/ participating in the Democrat party because they recognize that state is too darn Republican. Instead they register as Republicans, and promote the most extreme and unappealing candidates as nominees for office. They claim the election of Governor Kathleen Sibelius, and the reelection of Congressman Dennis Moore is their doing.

I was going to vote in the dim primary until our County Chair, and Xena's pal, decided he didn't want to show us the books and got 2 dozen of his pals (who have never done a thing for the party) to run against the most conservative Precinct Chairs in Ft Bend.

Best of luck unseating him. Is he still running the party operations out of the Enron office?

I'm also voting against our party chair in Harris. The guy who is opposing him is an eccentric perrennial candidate (he's the guy who used to run against Carl Smith for Harris County Tax assessor every year because all the other republicans knew we couldn't unseat that one Dem). The way I look at it, I'd rather have an oddball who is relatively harmless for Chairman than the current Chairman, who is in bed with the world's most disreputable professions: a bunch of plaintiff's lawyers and 2 prostitutes (Blakemore and Hotze)

Would that include Michael McCaul in US CD 10? Endorsed by the liberal Austin American-Statesman and called the "moderate" of the candidates by the liberal Austin Chronicle, although they would not endorse anyone? McCaul is proudly trumpeting his endorsement in his own campaign ads. That tells me he doesn't know who runs the Statesman or doesn't care.

If I ever ran for office and the Statesman endorsed me, I would either decline the endorsement or drop out of the race in embarassment.

Agreed. Same goes for the Houston Chronicle, which donates thousands of dollars annually to Planned Parenthood of Houston (you read that right, freepers: if you subscribe to the Houston Chronicle you are indirectly funding abortion).

You can also tell a lot about a candidate if he has the endorsements of all the newspapers and if he publicly displays those endorsements. Paul Green, the supreme court candidate mentioned in this article, has just that and if you go to his website its the very FIRST link at the top of his front page:

It truly sickens me. There are some people in the republican party who are modern day pharisees and nothing more. They dupe the rabble into believing that they are men of God when in reality they are some of the worst blasphemers out there.

Half my mail on Friday was political ads. A lot of the stuff I've read contradicts each other.

Has anyone here put together a list of acceptable candidates for Harris and Fort Bend counties? I don't even know where to start.
