'Protection squad' for Gibson's Jesus (Security detail hired for James Caviezel)
World Net Daily ^ | 3-8-04

Posted on 03/08/2004 2:26:43 PM PST by truthandlife

James Caviezel, who plays Jesus in Mel Gibson's blockbuster "The Passion of the Christ," has reportedly been assigned a security detail to protect him.

"There are some crazy people out there and everything is being done to protect Mel and Jim from physical attack," a source close to executives of Newmarket Films told the London Express.

The paper said Caviezel, a devout Catholic, was being guarded by a "protection squad" amid fears of attacks by "religious fanatics."

According to the report, a mob of protesters has already screamed "anti-Semite" and hurled a bucket of lamb's blood at Gibson in a New York street. Charges of anti-Semitism dogged the filmmaker for months prior to the movie's Feb. 25 opening.

The Express reports Caviezel, 35, and his wife, Kerri, are protected whenever they leave home. Studio executives reportedly are concerned the film's principal figures could be targets for assassination.

Caviezel, who has 20 movies to his credit, told the London paper: "Sadly, any threats have to be taken seriously. It seems a terrible irony to me that this movie has spawned anger and violence. The idea that actors need minders because they portray a man whose mission was to spread the love of God is awful."

As of yesterday, "The Passion of the Christ" had taken in $213,888,740 in U.S. ticket sales and likely is on its way to becoming the highest grossing R-rated film in history.

Anyway, it jibes with Mel's well-honed persecution complex.

Why would you say Mel Gibson has a "well-honed persecution complex"?

It is impossible to glean HATE from Jesus, and anyone with any lick of sense or who has followed this film knows it hasn't come from the Actors or Director/Producer/Distributor of this movie. But I've seen an awful lot from some critics and people who have not wanted this movie seen.

We are praying REALLY HARD for those so filled with that kind of HATE (It must be awful to be them!!). And we are especially praying for Mel Gibson, James Caviezel and their families.

Those who would HATE like this.. sure didn't see this movie..and if they did.. they MISSED the entire plot!

Well originally I thought the same thing, but then I read a couple of posts that did a pretty good job in painting the piece as a bit suspicious.

Notice, I didn't take back everything I said.

The incident regarding the girl in the garb was reported right after the opening of The Passion, and to the best of my knowledge was on the up and up, and that woman was DERANGED.

I have to say though, that I do fear for Mel and his family's safety, as well as for that of his cast and crew. Hell was unleashed on Mel, and hell spreads.

Why would you say Mel Gibson has a "well-honed persecution complex"?

Because from day one, over a year ago, in an unprecedented pre-release publicity campaign, Mel has portrayed his gospel movie as if one was never made before, and that "forces" were preventing him personally from making it. He received unfair criticism, but he stoked strong interest from his publicity campaign. Some things were not his fault, like awareness of his father's hatreds and paranoias about the Pope, masons, jews, etc. Some were his fault, like saying those not in the Roman (western) Church, even his Episcopalian wife, were going to hell and that "secular judaism", whatever that is, was blaming the Church for the Nazis.

In the end, the movie will stand on it's own, though.

Isn't the unspoken issue really that Judaism and Christianity are at fundamental odds with one another? Christianity is Christianity because it claimed and embraced a Jewish Savior while those who remained Judaic in Creed disavowed, and perhaps even despised him? Could it be that 'one of us has to be wrong' is at the bottom of this?

I was demonstrating the absurdity you see in the media regarding the headlines that have been written about Christians MAYBE going bonkers after seeing The Passion.

I find it equally as absurd that Jews* would do the same and go looking to harm Gibson or Caviezel in some way. What I wrote was meant as a spoof. I was being sarcastic. Which most people understand. At least they have for the last 1253 days because that's the first post I've ever had pulled! Did you not note the word "seriously" I wrote after the thing you disliked? That means that what written before was "not serious". Get it?

*If you do a search here you will find various posters using the term "Joos" when they are being absurd regarding people having a problem with "Jews". When people (usually numbnuts) blame Jews for some silly thing or another. Usually a thread regarding some insane thing posted by Palestinians or Arabs might prompt the use of the term here.

You didn't "drop a dime" on anything. The next time you see a post of mine with something outrageous like that take it with a grain of salt or at least ask about it before you play hall monitor again.

The unspoken issue is Jewish anti-Christian bigotry.

No. The unspoken issue is those who claim the name and hate Israel and the Jewish people. The follow the doctrine of Balaam and will not stop short of their goal of the utter destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. They know not who they serve.

No one, Jew or Gentile, should do any violence or wickedness to Mel, his family, the crew, the critics, the viewers, or anyone else because of this movie that Mel Gibson and his associates produced.

If you want to watch the movie, show by your conversation that it had a positive effect on you. All this dissension, anger, hatred, etc. on so many threads is not positive. There are too few inspiring comments. There should be more.

Just a matter of time before some of these guys decide to freelance and write their own accounts of "My Time with J.C." like they've got the inside track or something.

Sorry but you are wrong. I saw that interview and he didn't say his wife was going to hell, he said it was easier for him to get to heaven. There is a big difference there.

Well, it looks like the ADL was right. This film is provoking violence. Wait a second... It's the Christians who are supposed to get violent not the Jews!

Nope. I understand what you are saying. But, that is a shorthand that gets no traction here, I hope.

I'll mash the button every time I see it.

Distracting and troll bait is all it is.

It's funny how the press all but forgot Gibson's notrious repuation as a consumate jokester when he made the remarks about his wife and Frank Rich's dog. Any one who has seen Gibson on talks shows and then read those remarks knows he was jest'joshing.
