Military clarifies killed fighter was local Al-Qaeda spy (10:25 PST)

ISLAMABAD: Military today clarified that an Al-Qaeda fighter killed in an operation near the Afghan border was just a local intelligence operative and not the terror network's spy chief.

"He is not really the intelligence chief for all Al-Qaeda, but he was one of the top intelligence people in Wana (South Waziristan) for Al-Qaeda," military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan told AFP.

Sultan at a news conference on Monday said Pakistan army killed "Mr Abdullah, who was the chief of Al-Qaeda intelligence."

Sultan still refused to answer questions whether the military recovered Abdullah's body, saying he has no details about the full name, nationality and identity of the man.

Pakistan needs to get it's act together. First Zawahiri was surrounded .....then no he wasn't. Now we have Al Qaeda intelligence chief killed.........no it was only the local AQ spy in Wana.

Now you're buying into it, Dog. I don't recall a single member of the Pakistani military or government mentioning al Zawahiri as being cornered. It was unsourced rumor control concerning a possible high value target.

You know, the complete Pakistani incompetence with regard to this whole operation would be almost comical were this not so serious. They had in excess of 10,000 troops involved in this operation with armor and air support against ~700 al-Qaeda and they got their heads handed to them. How these people could ever have serious ambitions about defeating India is beyond me.

LOL! not something else, just adhering to their true nature. ProJihadis, Mush may have to implement a Stalinist like purge of his ranks.

There is a silver lining; the bloodying of the Army will make the Promodernity secular types understand that they have to step up and take charge and get rid of the jihadis.

There are no alternatives; we can't or won't put 200K troops in the border areas and risk the resultant bloodbath.

And Mush knows that if he produces the untimate HVT's, he will be the golden boy of the US WOT. So he has the motivation; question is, does he have the power to produce results.

We have been saying since 9/11 at this forum that Musharraf needs to conquer his own country. He wasn't willing to do much in that regard until the assassination attempts in December.

Now, it's not just a matter of cooperating with the US. It's personal.
