Call on Jamie S. Gorelick to Resign from the 9-11 Commission (click here)

Call on Jamie S. Gorelick to Resign from the 9-11 Commission

From the AP:

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner called on Jamie Gorelick to resign from the Sept. 11 commission Wednesday, citing a memo she wrote as a deputy attorney general on separating counterintelligence from criminal investigations. "Scrutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work," said Sensenbrenner, R-Wis. "Ms. Gorelick has an inherent conflict of interest as the author of this memo and as a government official at the center of the events in questions."

On Tuesday, Attorney General John Ashcroft released the declassified 1995 memo from Gorelick containing instructions that "more clearly separate" counterintelligence from criminal investigations. He said the "wall" between counterintelligence and criminal investigations was a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Landmark Legal Foundation, a conservative law firm, also has called on Gorelick to step down, citing the memo.

A phone message left with the Sept. 11 commission was not immediately returned Wednesday.

I ask you to send the following email -- or your own -- asking Ms. Gorelick to do the right thing and step down.  Please flood the commission with these emails.

Send the email to the following address: info@9-11Commission.gov; info@9-11Commission.gov

You may also phone the commission here:

Tel: (202) 331-4060

Fax: (202) 296-5545

Sample email is as follows:

Subject:  Do the Right Thing -- Resign

Dear Ms. Gorelick,

Please do the right thing and step down from the 9/11 Commission.

In 1995, as Deputy Attorney General of the Clinton Administration, you drafted and signed a memo creating a wall between counterintelligence and criminal investigation, a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks.  As House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner averred, "[s]crutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work."

This presents a severe and impermissible conflict of interest.  There is "an inherent conflict of interest as [you are] the author of this memo and [are] a government official at the center of the events in questions."

Ms. Gorelick -- please do the right thing.  If America is to believe that the 9/11 Commission is not merely a partisan sham aimed solely at damaging the Bush Administration, you must resign your position in light of this gross political conflict of interest.

I trust you will do the honorable thing and resign.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME, YOUR ADRRESS, ETC.

This entire commission is a farce and a democrat party set up...and of course aided by the media!

http://www.jsonline.com/enter/tvradio/mar04/216753.asp?showheadlines=all

NOTHING'S BURNING

CNN kept repeating an odd quote Monday from Richard Ben-Veniste, a member of the commission investigating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He was talking about a former presidential aide's allegations that the Bush administration ignored al-Qaida before the attacks.

"People, such as Richard Clarke, were literally running through the halls of the White House with their hair on fire with the seriousness of these threats," according to a CNN transcript.

Ben-Veniste said almost the same thing Jan. 28 on NPR's "Talk of the Nation."

"Certain people in the intelligence community had their hair on fire, literally, with respect to the kinds of information that they were receiving," according to the transcript.

The literal blaze started with another commission member, Jamie Gorelick, who said this at a hearing the day before, according to the transcript: "We have ample evidence that across the intelligence community, literally hair was on fire through June."

No, hair wasn't "literally" on fire. That would mean it was actually burning.

Let's hope the commission is more precise in its findings than its members' fiery words are.

Here is a link that explains it pretty well.

Weldon calls Clinton,Gore, Reno, criminals

The point made in the DSL excerpt that I posted is that,
given Reno and Gorelick's attempts to ILLEGALLY obtain the
FBI files on an open investigation (Clinton wanted to know
just what the FBI had on him), that OF COURSE Reno wasn't
going to appoint a special prosecuter to investigate.
It also proves that Gorelick is a partisan Clinton stooge who should NOT be
on the 911 commisssion. Louis Freeh KNOWS where the bodies are buried,
and I guess he wants to live to see his 6 children grow up.
Hopefully someday he will be able to spill his guts.

Do we also have a physical address for letters / postcards to the commission? We're receiving the computer generated, "thanks for contacting us, but we cannot reply" email replies.

Let's also leave a paper trail.

Too Smart for Fannie?
Deputy attorney general Jamie Gorelick abruptly left the number-two job at the Justice Department near the start of Bill Clinton’s second term, enticed by a seven-figure salary as vice chair at Fannie Mae.

The word around town was that Gorelick wanted to make some big money before returning to government service in an Al Gore administration.

Considered by many to be the smartest young lawyer to arrive in Washington in many years, Radcliffe grad Gorelick had served as general counsel at Defense and made a name for herself as a star litigator. Her name was mentioned as a Secretary of Defense or Attorney General under President Gore.

Now Gorelick has quietly left Fannie Mae, the federally chartered housing-finance corporation, and taken a position at the law firm Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. Going back to the firm where her meteoric Washington career started, Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin, was no option. That firm went out of business in 2001.

Colleagues at Fannie Mae say Gorelick was too smart to stay with them forever. “She is the kind of person who needed bigger challenges,” says one admiring colleague. He added that as she had done at Janet Reno’s chaotic Justice Department, Gorelick had been the one to hold Fannie Mae together for the past six years.

At Wilmer Cutler, Gorelick is expected to work in the firm’s expanded corporate-fraud area, headed by former SEC enforcement chief Bill McLucas.

No one doubts that Gorelick, 53, still has the stuff to be a star in the next Democratic administration. But she may have to wait a lot longer than expected.

Either that, or they don't have any intention of listening to anybody.

I'm not as polite in today's letter to Kean, that many on this thread are. Here it is:

Dear Mr. Kean,

After the revelations brought forth to the committee by Attorney General Ashcroft yesterday, highlighting Jamie Gorelicks involvement in strengthening the mandates of "The Wall" between the CIA and FBI, it is my belief that at minimum, she has a conflict of interest in serving on the 9-11 Commission that can no longer be ignored.

Ms. Gorelick should put the country first and step down from the commission. If she refuses to do this, the commission should ask her to resign. This is NOT about face-saving and reputations. This is about national security.

It seems Ms. Gorelick is directly involved with tying the hands of the government agencies to the extent that they were doomed to fail. That she didn't reveal this to the commission indicates her desire to hide this fact. I believe she should be summoned as a witness and questioned by the commission.

I'll send one to her now.....
