[history]
As was thoroughly predictable in this election year, the September 11 commission's hearings and surrounding commentary have rapidly degenerated into an exercise in monumental finger-pointing.
Hoping to undermine President Bush's national security credentials, many Democrats, and a large chunk of the media, have sought to exonerate the Clinton administration, which failed to deal with al Qaeda over its eight years in office. Their claim is that, unlike the incoming Bush administration, Clinton officials had at least appreciated the strategic predicament al Qaeda presented. They agonized about it, held many long meetings devoted to the subject and tried to push a recalcitrant and ossified national security bureaucracy "to shake the trees," in Richard A. Clarke's vernacular.

that the Justice Department was using FISA warrants, instead of normal criminal investigative techniques, as a means of short circuiting civil-liberties protections. This was the same klinton regime that tripled the number of FISA "national security" wiretaps, but brought forth no cases. They were doing domestic "black bag" wiretaps while claiming these were foreign intelligence operations, thus bypassing any oversight.

What I am sure went through Clarke's perverted mind, when lying about the Clinton focus being al Quaeda, must have been that the Bush Administration would never declassify the memo...Se la vie (I don't care if I spelt it right, it is french).

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know anything about or have an opinion about Mary Jo White? Is she a Clinton hack/apologist or trustworthy?

Mary Jo White is definitely waist deep in all things Clinton. I couldn't find anything specific to post (I'm still trying), but it's hard to tell whether she's a lackey or just in the center of a lot of things because of her position.

Here's an enlightening piece from Ann Coulter:

An interesting side note to the column: It refers to Terry McAuliffe's attorney. Guess who? Richard Ben-Veniste

Thanks for the link. Pretty much what I expected...bad news. The Clintons and their people are sorta like a termite infestation that eats the heart out of the structure but all the while the external appearance makes you think that everything is still sound.

Mary Jo White??? She was the NY district judge that posters used to say was Janet Reno's mini-me. I think that she heard a lot of the cases that were brought against Hillary, like the one about the campaign donations from the Jewish community. Anyway, she's a Clintonista through and through.

From Washington Post
article Gorelicks memo covered cases then being prosecuted against terrorism suspects accused of plotting to blow up the United Nations and two New York tunnels. It noted that information developed in that case had triggered a separate FBI foreign counterintelligence investigation, and it offered instructions on how information from the new FBI investigation should be separated from criminal prosecutions that were already underway.

Did Richard Clarke know of the Gorelick memo?

Did Richard Clarke know of the Gorelick memo? I don't know. But from this post, it would seem he did.
