I've been to Italy a few times...Sicily.

I grew up in an Italian neighborhood and family in New York.

I also know that, normally, a brave man is the result of a strong, brave family.

The insurgents kidnap a few civilians, force them to dig their own grave, bind them hand and foot, and then shoot them in the head. But a video of the murders released to impress and demoralize the Italian public does not have intended effect. They misjudged their audience: the Italians are not medieval Islamic fanatics, they are rather more sophisticated. It's too bad, but the video does show us what would impress and demoralize its makers; it's too bad because we're too sophisticated to put the lesson into practice.
