NEW YORK, April 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Robert Peters, president of Morality in Media, made the following comments in response to an AP story today reporting that a male performer in the Los Angeles-based porn industry tested positive for the AIDS virus and that one of about a dozen women he had sex with also tested positive. The story indicated that the last industry HIV scare was in 1999, when a male performer tested positive for the disease. Before that, a male performer infected five women in 1998.
"First, it would help to put this story in context.
"In an article, 'Ron Jeremy to Direct HIV-Positive Performers in Video' (Adult Video News, 9/99), Sharon Mitchell, director of the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, said:
'Everyone who watches porn learns something from it, right? It could be a new technique...even a new kind of fantasy. Right? So let's just call this an instructional tape for safety awareness and for the HIV-positive to realize there's ways to have sex safely.'
"In an article, 'Barebacking Videos Make A Comeback' (NY Blade, 12/27/02), Will Clark wrote:
'I've been involved one way or another in the gay porn business for much of the past eight years...The biggest challenge of my porn career has been in fighting a particular battle: holding the (gay porn) Industry to the commitment it made years ago to portray safer-sex images in our product...Sadly, showing unsafe sex and slapping a trendy name on it has become big business...I believe we all learn things...from watching gay porn...Images and sexy talk lure us all into thinking that safer sex is no big deal any more. It is.'
"On Jan. 12, 2003, the Los Angeles Times reported that of 483 'adult industry' performers tested between October 2001 and March 2002 by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, 'about 40 percent had at least one (sexually transmitted) disease.'
"In an August 2003 article, 'Does Sex Kill?,' Adult Video News reported that the hardcore pornography industry 'is in the midst of a sexually transmitted disease epidemic of unprecedented proportions.' AVN also reported that 'as many as 200 performers' had recently gotten HIV tests from a company that used a test, the results of which 'may have been completely false.' When it came to gay porn, AVN reported that 'HIV-negative status, because of studio mandated condom use, is not a condition of employment' and that 'a recent L.A. Times article alleged that the vast majority of performers in the gay XXX industry are HIV positive.'"
"Second, it will help to remember that people all ages learn from hardcore pornography that depicts, among other things, bestiality, bondage, domination, excretory activities, gangbangs, incest, marital infidelity, prostitution, rape, 'rough sex' (strangulation and slapping), sexual murders, 'school girls' (grade school to college), teen promiscuity, torture and unsafe sex.
"Third, it will help to remember that this an industry that, according to our nation's secular news and entertainment media, has become 'acceptable' and 'mainstream.'"

..."Mary Carey, an adult movie star who ran for governor of California last fall, said she had not worked with the HIV-infected actor or his co-stars. However, as a precaution she was canceling a lesbian porn shoot even though she did not consider it risky."
What a GAL!
Workman's comp only covers carnal tunnel syndrome.
Is this the same guy who acts in porn flicks under the stage name "Drippy Peters?"
It is important to know that the use of condoms in fairy porn is one of those evil things that the Republicans and Halliburtonare trying to force on folks. Just ask any of the ANSWER folks whether fairies should use condoms.
You laugh ...
