Kerry National Headquarters Sics Cops on Freepers, Kristinn to Be On Fox News - On Now
D.C. Chapter of FR ^ | 4/17/04 | L_von_Mises

Posted on 04/17/2004 12:03:06 PM PDT by L_Von_Mises

The DC Chapter of Free Republic set up a Viet-Cong Vets for Kerry bake sale in front of Democrat Presidential candidate John Kerry's national headquarters in Washington DC this afternoon. The Kerry campaign responded by calling the D.C. police to shut down the bake sale.

When the D.C. police arrived they ordered the DC Chapter to shut down the protest in 15 minutes or they would ticket them for occupying a public space without a permit. At that point the police would then disperse them themselves.

Due to the short notice, and the fact that it would be a small group, the DC Chapter did not apply for a permit.

Kristinn is scheduled to appear on Fox News this afternoon for an in-studio interview. The interview should air sometime between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm today. As more details become available, they will posted here.

Kudos to those that attended. The honor roll is Kristinn, Angelwood, TGSLTakoma, TBP, Trueblackman, and Staytrue.

Here is the link to the original announcement about the bake sale

maybe it was the fact that a table was set up. I'm sure Kristinn will clarify all this

They were not actually selling any baked goods so they did not need a vendor's permit but, he said that the issue was the tables. Apparently, if they were just standing there with signs it probably would have been OK, but having the tables there gives it a sense of permanence. Not quite a structure, but....

I am sure Kristinn will be able to provide more info when he gets to a keyboard.

Isn't the rule that for groups of less than 25, a permit is not needed in DC for a demonstration?

Rats only believe in free speech when they are doing the speaking.

You could not write a more true statement here on FR. The Dems have no sense of humor and have little tolerance opposing viewpoints.

What the Kerry People did to the Freepers in DC is a disgrace. What ticks me off the most is if that DU'ers were to set up a "DWI Offenders for Bush" or "Friends of Ken Lay for Bush" in front of the Bush-Cheney '04 HQ the campaign staffers would not say a thing and allow them to have their Right to Free Speech right in Front of the campaign office.

I wonder how many of the bake sales Kerry's people organized got permits?
It should be fairly easy to verify if the DC Chapter's bake sale was subjected to "selective enforcement" of the laws reguarding permits for bake sales in that area.

First, get the ZIP code for Kerry HQ, from http://www.johnkerry.com/contact/:

John Kerry for President, Inc.
901 15th Street, NW, Suite 700
Washington, DC 20005
202-712-3000
202-712-3001 (fax)
Next, input that ZIP code at the MoveOnPac bake sale locator to find OTHER local bake sales:
Events within 5 miles of 20005 (Click here for another zip)

Here are bake sales already planned in your neighborhood. You can click on "I want to help" to participate or click here to create your own event.

  Judith Miller (9 baker(s)/helper(s))
3620 Macomb St., NW
Washington, DC
Bring baked goods (brownies?). Be entertained by a bluegrass band. Just B's, but no Bushes.
DIRECTIONS: I live at 3620 Macomb St., NW. It's the ONLY house on the corner of Wisconsin and Macomb (which is on the grid: 2 syllable "m"). The best way to figure out how to get there is by using the Rideguide on the wmata site. (www.wmata.com) Alternatively, you can follow these directions... Take the red line to Cleveland Park. Walk out of the station at the west exit. It will leave you off at Connecticut and Ordway. Walk south along CT for two blocks (maybe 3?) until you get to Macomb St. Take a right (west) on Macomb and follow it until you get to Wisconsin. I'm the only house on the corner. The walk is about 15 minutes total from the Cleveland Park station. It's the longest walking-time, but the easiest if you're not used to DC busses. bus routes: N2/N4/N6: These routes (which leave from Dupont and, I believe, downtown) drop you off at the corner of Massachusetts and Wisconsin. Walk north on Wisconsin about 4 blocks until you hit Macomb St., where I live on the corner. About 10 minute bus ride from dupont, 5 minute walk from the bus stop. H4: Take this from Mt. Pleasant/Columbia Hts to the corner of Wisconsin and Porter. Walk south along Wisconsin 4 blocks until Macomb St., where I live. The other H busses also take you in the area of where I live, but it's a longer walk from where they drop you to my house. 90: Take this from Adams Morgan (and other areas?). It will drop you off on the corner of Wisconsin and Macomb, literally in front of my house. 32/34/35: I don't know exactly how far these go , but they definitely go into Georgetown and the capitol area. You can catch take them all the way up Wisconsin to its intersection with Macomb St. Then get off the bus and you'll be, again quite literally, in front of my house.

If all goes well, we'll set up camp outside a popular local coffee shop, otherwise we'll make do in another nearby public space. If using the metro, take the red-line to Woodley Park/Zoo/Adams Morgan and walk across the Ellington Bridge or the green-line to Columbia Hights and walk one block S to Columbia Rd and W four block to 18th St.

IMHO, Kerry is VERY vulnerable to this kind of attack (via HUMOR) already underway all across the USA:

Sandal whappers serenade Kerry

Reporter's Notebook

By Gregory Korte and Cindi Andrews
The Cincinnati Enquirer

John Kerry had seen the tactic before - it emerged on the campaign trail last week - but few others seemed to understand what was going on.

Young Republicans wearing cheap sandals got in the front row and started clapping them together almost as soon as the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Sawyer Point on Tuesday.

Their message: that Kerry has flip-flopped on the issues...

Pathetic Kerry Condemns "Rude" GOP Protestors
April 7, 2004

-- snip --
Kerry's playbook is so old and he is so dishonest, it can be infuriating. But there's a simple way to listen to liberals without tearing your hair out, and that is this: everything liberals accuse Bush of, is what they do themselves. So when Kerry talks about the politics of lying, he's telling us what Democrats do. He's identifying his own tactics. As an example, consider Kerry's freak-out at a group of protestors waving flip-flop sandals at Kerry's Cincinnati speech.

As you can hear in the audio link below, this man who protested the Vietnam War and whose party has defined patriotism as requiring dissent, grumbled, "Obviously some young Republicans proving that they are very rude and they have no manners." Oh, the power, my friends! I am paralyzed here with how impressed I am by his retort. Why, what a way to shut them down! Not only calling them "rude" but "very rude!" This is so pathetic!

Just looked at the zip code searcher.....some of these sales are this evening.

May I suggest FReepers put their zip codes in the MoveOn.com search for Kerry Bake Sale locations & show up to whack a few Flip-Flops? I wouldn't think one or two Freepers whacking 'flip-flops' would require a permit!
