  • What is the latest status of U.S. citizens that were left in Afghanistan?

    07/11/2022 11:55:08 AM PDT · by bluescape · 39 replies
What was the last known count approximately of U.S. citizens that are still stranded in Afghanistan? Soon after the deadly debacle of an exit the administration was quoting estimates that were probably low-balled, but I hadn't noticed any recent word on any citizens that made it out after that. There could be zero left now for all I know but that's not likely knowing the administration's batting record.

According to the BBC: Ukraine "re-construction conference" happening in Lugano, Switzerland. EU president to attend along with IMF and World Bank. Zelensky to attend virtually. He says he needs $600 billion to re-build the country. "The conference aspires to emulate the wildly successful Marshall Plan, a US initiative that in 1948 began pumping vast sums in foreign aid into Western Europe to help the continent rebuild and recover after World War II."

Anyway, the reason it was in Fort Collins is ’cause Dan lived in Fort Collins. Remember, his original complaint was his wife wouldn’t let him spend the money, because she was not a fan. She wouldn’t let him spend the money on a subscription to the newsletter, so that’s when I suggested he do a bake sale and leave his wife out of it if she didn’t want to be part of it. (interruption) Oh, that’s right. He was getting Xerox copies. That’s what blew me up. We had a copyright and intellectual theft issue going on, and this guy...
  • Affirmative Action Bake Sale' sparks protest on college campus

SEATTLE — A group of student Republicans at the University of Washington hosted an "Affirmative Action Bake Sale" on Friday, advertising different prices based on customers' race and gender. Some groups were charged reduced prices, while Asian-Americans and white customers had higher prices. Baked goods for Native Americans were free.“Affirmative action is an inherently racist policy that is now back after the Washington State Legislator passed I-1000,” read a social media post from the campus' College Republicans group, which hosted the sale. “We will be protesting this clearly racist change of law by hosting a bake sale that plainly shows...

A school bake sale organized by an on-campus activist group charged students based on their ethnicity, sparking critique and backlash at the University of New Mexico. Turning Point USA — which is not yet recognized as an official student organization — on Thursday doled out desserts in what they called “An Affirmative Action Bake Sale,” with prices for products varying based on the customer’s race.

The University of Texas at Austin will ignore demands from student officials to “disband” a young conservative student group following a controversial “affirmative action bake sale” last week. The bake sale instantly drew large crowds of protesters, many claiming the bake sale was a “hate crime.” A petition demanding the removal of the group also circulated the campus and as of Thursday, it has 863 signatures. A resolution, filed by multiple members of the UT student government, called on the UT administration to not only disband Young Conservatives of Texas but demanding that they university respond to future incidents by...

While we wait to find out if Ebola is God’s way of saying “Shut the D*** Borders!” let us ponder this, via HuffPo: The White House is making women's empowerment a theme in a Washington African leaders summit next week. Michelle Obama said problems with girls' education often stemmed from traditional "attitudes and beliefs" that exist even in the United States and lead to issues such as the gender pay gap and an underrepresentation of women in leadership. She said men worldwide needed to "look into their hearts and souls and ask if they truly view women as their equals."Or,...

State lawmakers overturned a controversial ban on school bake sales this afternoon after a fierce public outcry over school nutrition guidelines that also prohibited pizza, white bread and 2 percent milk. “That is the stupidest thing I’ve seen in my career,” state Rep. Cory Atkins (D-Concord), moments after the House unanimously voted to ease the statewide cupcake crackdown. “Talk about hitting the nerve of government reaching far into people’s lives.” State Rep. Brad Hill (R-Ipswich) offered the amendment, which leaves it up to local school committees whether to adopt the Department of Public Health rules, after hearing about an Ipswich...

Bake sales don't normally get national attention. There was a big turn out for a very controversial bake sale on the Cal campus Tuesday. The Berkeley College Republicans' "Increase Diversity Bake Sale" kicked off right on schedule in Sproul Plaza at 10 a.m. The group announced the sale last week. They said it was designed to spark conversation about a bill that is now on Gov. Jerry Brown's desk that would allow California public universities to consider race, ethnicity and gender in student admissions. The bill is SB185. Berkeley College Republicans posted the prices of its cookies according to race, gender...

I don't know about the political ethics or math skills of the UC Berkeley students who came up with the idea for an Increase Diversity Bake Sale, but they certainly know how to draw a crowd. The student Republican group that sponsored a race-based bake sale set to be held on the campus today must have been counting on raising more than just the cookie dough. There are few places in America more reactionary than a college campus, and among them, UC Berkeley is a leader. A bake sale flyer posted on Facebook last week linked the price of pastries...

The Berkeley College Republicans have taken a strong stance against a proposed law that would allow, among other things, race to be taken into consideration during the admissions process. They say on a Facebook event page: "The Berkeley College Republicans firmly believe measuring any admit's merit based on race is intrinsically racist." In this note I'll show that their belief is wrong. Not only is the use of race in admissions not intrinsically racist - the failure to consider race and other similar factors is intrinsically racist. This is not some subjective interpretation of histories of oppression. This is not...

Berkeley student senators voted Sunday to condemn discriminatory behavior on campus - even if done in satire - in response to a Republican student group's plans for an "Increase Diversity Bake Sale," with pastries labeled according to race and gender. The 19-0 vote, with one absence, came during a special meeting of the Associated Students of the University of California, as the debate over affirmative action reignited in Berkeley. "Sure, it came off as discrimination," said Francisco Loayza IV, the treasurer of the Republican group, at Sunday's meeting. "People are being judged by their skin color (in affirmative action policies)....

It's meant to be racist, and it's meant to be discriminatory. But the controversial "Increase Diversity Bake Sale" hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans is still on, the club's president said, despite "grossly misguided comments" and threats aimed toward supporters of the University of California Berkeley student group.During the sale, scheduled for Tuesday, baked goods will be sold to white men for $2, Asian men for $1.50, Latino men for $1, black men for $0.75 and Native American men for $0.25. All women will get $0.25 off those prices. The bake sale is meant to draw attention to pending legislation that...

Two years ago, the wristband read WWOD? “What Would Obama Do?” Now it’s “What Can Obama Do?” Since his election, Barack Obama has gone from “global political Messiah” to “total White House mess.” It’s so bad that Obama-friendly reporter Mark Halperin in the Obama-friendly Time Magazine describes it this way: “Liberals believe he is an overcompromising wimp. The business community considers Obama ignorant about markets at best, a socialist at worst. . . The media, after aiding and abetting his ride to the White House, now see the president as incompetent and overwhelmed. The independents and Republicans who backed him...

This is the police. Step away from the cupcakes! A half-baked town-board member called the cops on a pair of pint-size entrepreneurs for selling their cookies and cupcakes in a Westchester park without a permit. "A lot of people go to eat lunch in the park," one of the bummed-out baker boys, Andrew DeMarchis (pictured), 13, of Chappaqua, told The Post yesterday. "So everybody bought dessert from us. When the cop first pulled up, I didn't know he was there for us. Then he walked up to us. I didn't know we needed a permit. I was more shocked than...

Alert the authorities! Some kids in New York apparently think it’s still okay to engage in capitalistic ventures in America! Think again, kiddos: A politician in a New York suburb called police on two 13-year-old boys for selling cupcakes and other baked goods without a permit, according to a report Monday. The Journal News in Westchester County said the boys, Andrew DeMarchis and Kevin Graff, had a brisk business selling cupcakes, cookies, brownies and Rice Krispie treats for $1 each in a Chappaqua park. However, New Castle [which includes Chappaqua] Councilman Michael Wolfensohn called the police after discovering the sale...

A New York lawmaker is under fire for calling the police on a pair of 13-year-olds selling homemade baked goods in a local park. Andrew DeMarchis and Kevin Graff were just trying to earn some pocket change by selling an assortment of cupcakes, brownies and Rice Krispies treats in a Chappaqua park. But the middle school entrepreneurs were shut down by local police at the request of New Castle Councilman Michael Wolfensohn. He called the cops because the boys were operating a business without a license, according to The Journal News. “The police offer was extremely pleasant,” Suzanne DeMarchis told...

Bake sales are banned in NY city schools BY JENNIFER MEDINA NEW YORK TIMES NEW YORK — There shall be no cupcakes. No chocolate cake and no carrot cake. According to New York City's latest regulations, not even zucchini bread makes the cut.
