Kentucky. Might have been my cousin from Zirkona, his guidence system is always failing. He's too cheap to get a new one. Now he'll have to find a human host and make his way down here to Texas where we're planning the take-over of the planet.

Me too. Haven't heard a word about it though.

My suspicion is that it's a much weaker system than it appears, which would permit localized wind currents to effectively act upon it, but I'm still thinking about it.
Your basic point is almost certainly correct IMHO.

There was a comet or something.
meteorite. Comets are usually BIG... too big.

I don't think Coriolis forces are all that strong. As a matter of fact, I think they are now considered hypothetical!
It appears to me that you are seeing a clockwise vortex rotating between two boundary layers; the southern boundary trending west and the northern boundary trending north-east.
To: AntiGuv
Your theory makes sense to me as does your response about the effects if a storm were to cross the equator.

Oh. We'll I'm glad it was a meteorite or was it. Are you just correcting me (which I appreciate, I like to know thing I didn't know) or do you know for sure. If so, tell me. I want to know what the heck it was.

I don't know what it was. A comet would have ripped away the atmosphere and left a huge crater where North America used to be.
I said it might have been a meteorite.

OK, I'm fairly certain I've figured out what's going on. It's much clearer in the
visible spectrum imagery.
There are two systems colliding, one more dispersed and one with evidently stronger winds but less precipitation. The stronger system is moving counterclockwise due west (as it should), and colliding into the southeast quadrant of the weaker system. It's basically 'sucking' the weaker system in, which is making it appear to move clockwise.
I am no longer distressed. :)

I fear asking this question. What part of B3D do you need help with?
To: AntiGuv
No that to the west is the subtropical jet stream. The low pressure its self it moving slowly eastward, very slowly. That ball of convection is where this system is centered.
To: Tropicalwatcher
Forgot to say the low pressure, is with the ball of convection(Thunderstorms)in its turning clockwise.
To: antiantiamericans
I fear asking this question. =o) .. You tremble with good reason.
I just started last night and I can't make heads nor tails nor middles of the thing. Why won't my textures and backgrounds be recognized for one? I have them as bmp and jpg and nothing gets noticed by the program.
Like I said, its been 24 hours, so I've just scratched the surface. I am still messing around with basic shapes.
My space ships LOL..

I'm rather certain that what you're seeing is an optical illusion. Check out the
Water Vapor Loop first, which is even clearer. Then check out
Infrared Ch. 2. The effect appears to be a combination of the colliding systems and a shift in the precipitation.

Wonderful it appears to be forming a eastern feeder band. The streaming "thing" to the west, in north of this system is called the subtropical jet stream. In yes those clouds on the western side look like ouflow. Nice outflow channel setting up :) Yes I see there could be a weak system moving up from the southwest but that could make it stronger.
To: Tropicalwatcher
Granted, I'm not absolutely certain by any means, but that's how it appears to me. I'll have to remember to check the imagery again in a few hours to see what it looks like then.
