Religious tolerance aside, I don't think I could stomach being in earshot of one of those things. They would sing Alllllllllllaaaaahu ackbaaaaaaar... and I would hear "Death to Jews and Christians everywhere!"

If I had to listen to that 5 times a day, within a week I'd be ready to start killing people, too!

I think this is outrageous in light of the fact that cities and counties have been forced to withdraw anything relating to religion. I have even read where communities are complaining about church bells. We don't celebrate Christmas anymore we celebrate the winter "holiday." To even consider an ordance that would allow this special treatment is simply because these people are muslims and it is purely disgusting.

When are the people that immigrate here going to assimilate? This is what I find fault with regarding the whole of immigration. Our country was started because we wanted religious freedom and we are now shutting all those doors to ourselves. The doors should be shut to the immigrants who seem to be setting new standards for our country. Why is this happening--for tolerance? BAH HUMBUG!!

Maybe enterprising Christians should blast religious hymns at them 5 times a day.

Isn't it bad enough that they have to live in a town named Hamtramck? How the hell do you say that? If I lived there, I'd drink in the mornings.

This isn't about prayer. This is about creating mini-Islamic states within the USA. They have no intention to assimilate. They aren't Hassidic, or Amish as they claim to imitate.

http://www.youngmuslims.ca/articles/display.asp?ID=47

"I used to have contact with a unique community in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. It was originally settled by Yemen immigrants about ten years ago. Those Muslims could have gone the way of others and lost their Iman. But as you'll see, something quite different occurred.

I still remember my first visit to the area fondly. I was attending a meeting of the newly-formed local ICNA group and had never been exposed to the place before. What I saw amazed me. I was elated, in fact! Children were saying salaams to me on the street and women (in hijab) were walking around and going places leisurely and confidently. I saw Muslims who were Arab, Black and Bengali. But what took the cake for me was when out of nowhere I heard the adhan outdoors over a loudspeaker. They fought the city council and won the right to do adhan five times a day in the community!"

The organization of the religion is such that it cannot be one on one or even personal. It has to be within the community and the community does not assimilate.

I really feel bad for the people of that community. It would freak me out to have to hear this chanting five times a day.

Why do they need to be told when to pray? I'd think a good Muslim would a) be able to tell time, and b) know the set prayer times.

Long known for pierogi and polka, this bustling city is now debating whether to add an amplified Arabic chant to the local sights and sounds.

When a neighborhood goes to hell, it literally goes to hell.....

condemning the "resentment and negativity" expressed during the debate.

Expressing resentment and negativity during a debate is something that most of us feel is part of the democratic process. Of course, many of us feel that western government and eastern religions will never coexist. The country was founded on the rejection of the absolute power held by kings and popes, and needless to say that would be extended to imans as well.

Just have the Muslim numbnuts by a cheap watch.

If they want to call the cattle to the house of hate let them do it without reminding others who's name was invoked when they killed 3,000 Americans. Or who's name was invoked when they killed the Spanish. Or who's name was invoked when they have killed Jews. Or who's name has been invoked when they have been killing American soldiers, soldiers from other countries and contractors. Or who's name has been invoked when they bombed the night club in Bali. Etc,etc, etc.

When are they going to do a "call to prayers" then have the Imam tell them to stop violence? To repudiate the killings I mention above? When will the Muslims come out of their Mosques and say murdering innocent people in the name of Allah is wrong?

According to Ask the Imam it's OK for a non-muslim to go into a Mosque as long as the person comes in peace. When are the handlers of Islam going to demand that things go the other way? That when Muslims leave a Mosque they are told not to murder?

People must keep in mind that this is all about territory. The call to prayer basically claims the area as Islamic. Any attempt to convince them to use alarm clocks or radios isn't going to fly, because its not the reason.

Wow - like every freakin' mosque in the U.S. won't be citing this example in the near future. Islam - the Official Religion of the Third-World(tm).

This has got to be the direct result of the city's financial ruin. This must be their way of trying to attract new buyers and businesses after having to be financially taken over by the state. What a damned shame. It was once a great little community with the best pierogis you could shake a stick at.

From approx. 1972 to about 1984 I spent my leisure hours drinking and hustling pool in Hamtramck, most favorite bar was the Congor Bar on Conant. Same bar, from what I hear, is now a Hari-Krishna bookstore and most of the other establishments have succumed to alien influence also.......

Raising hand and waving wildly!
I demand an noise abatement exemption for the playing of revilee early in the am, and playing Taps in the evening.
At the sound of revilee, all must raise their flags, and at the sound of Taps, all must lower their flags.
If one has no flag handy, one must stop, face the direction of the nearest flag, or the direction of the sound of the bugles, and salute for the duration of the playing of both Revilee and Taps, unless one finds themselves indoors, or out of uniform, at the time.
If out of uniform, one must stop, and cover their heart with their right hand.
If indoors, one need not respond.
Many people may initially find this an annoying daily ritual, but they will soon get used to it, as it will eventually become second nature, and ultimately required by law.
The purpose of this exercise is to daily remind everyone in our community of our sworn duties.
It is a highly effective technique.
Since it is not religious in nature, I am sure the ACLU and the liberals would have no objections at all to the practice.
hmmmm

Opponents take issue with that comparison, saying that church bells today are used to mark the time of day and have no religious significance. If the bells are the issue, then turn them off, they say.

Is this true? The bells go off on the hour?
