Who are the 'Veterans for Peace'?

On the cover of today's Huntington Beach Independent (a local weekly published by the Los Angeles Times) there is a photo of over 200 hundred miniature crosses placed on the sand south of the HB Pier.
In the accompanying article, it mentions that the crosses are placed there each Sunday morning by volunteers from 'Veterans for Peace' and are meant to represent soldiers KIA in Iraq.
While the campaign is called the 'Arlington West Project', the whole thing comes off as something decidely more suspicious other than patriotic Americans honoring our combat dead.
Knowing of the vast resources available from the FR network, has anyone else heard of this group and/or project and are my concerns unfounded? Or, is this actually a front group for a not-so-subtle anti-war message that is essentially defaming those KIA?

They sound like another anti-war pacifist crowd to me but I could be wrong.

Sounds like a bunch that went into the military and did not accomplish a damned thing. I encountered plenty of these dead beats during my 20 years of active duty. They have no job, no prospects, no experience other than sitting on their lazy asses. They come into the military for "three hots and a cot," free medical care, travel some, screw off. They were shirkers. They get in their three years and leave because they have no future in the military because they are lazy, worthless, no-account SOBs who are sorry good for nothing, a waste of time. You spend more time policing them each day than training your troops. That is what you are dealing with here. These are not patriotic, freedom loving military members who did their time honorably and with self-worth.

Their website has links to a lot of left-wing organizations including September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows (funded by the Tides Foundation) and Vietnam Veterans Against the War (I thought Vietnam ended in 1973).

I emailed this group after seeing their little beach memorial on the news, to ask if it was beside their little memorial for the civilian dead caused by high altitude Balkans bombings on the 90's. No response as of yet.

Here is nice capsule description of the communist scumbag leader of Veterans for Peace:

On the company the Soros keeps -
Jim Long, a rabble-rouser for the Veterans Speakers Alliance and Veterans For Peace, showed up to protest a fund raiser for President Bush this summer in San Francisco and extolled the virtues of comrade Castro, dictator for life in Cuba. A screaming mob of anarchists, environmentalists, Marxists, the Service Employees International Union, the Communications Workers of America and Green Party watermelons cheered him on.
Long proudly proclaimed that on every November 11th, he goes to Cuba to meet with comrades and honor communist veterans in a special commemorative ceremony.

I live in HB. I spoke with this leader, on of the first weekends of his display.
He was evasive, and manipulative. Said he served in the military during peacetime, late 70s I seem to recall.
Snobbish intellectual superiority. I remember talking with him about Afghanistan. He didn't support our military action there, either. Probably would have turned it over to Kofi and the UN (like John Kerry).
They are out there every weekend, except rainy ones. They are not THAT committed.

They sound like a front group for a not-so-subtle anti-war protestor group. Very VVAW-like. Probably funded by Theresa's foundation.

Veterans for Peace is a communist-supported group that pre-dates the Vietnam Veterans Against the War by a number of years. V4P members helped organize and fund the VVAW in its early days.

We have several them in the "Lefty Loonies" group at the weekely FReep here in Columbia, MO. They have their signs..saying "Peace, Peace". Bah humbug.
I know one of them and she is a Gulf War vet as well. Simply amazes me.
They don't support the Troops nor the military. They are left as left can get.
Several years ago during a Memorial Day parade, there were several of them heckling the Veterans in the parade (I was one of those Vets) I wish I could have got out of the ranks and just pound one of them. LoL
