Pew Trusts to Open Research Center in D.C.

Organization Will Rely More on Polls Than on Expert Opinions

The Pew Charitable Trusts is getting into the think tank business.

The group, which has become increasingly influential in public policy debates, will announce a major reorganization today that will bring seven of its public information projects under one roof and a new name: the Pew Research Center.

The center will host various ongoing Pew projects examining, among other topics, the significance of the Internet, the role of religion in public life, the growing Hispanic population, the news media and the way in which the rest of the world views the United States.

Officials also said the reorganization signals the Pew Trusts' long-term commitment to those projects, which under the old plan had been affiliated with various outside groups, including several universities and the Tides Foundation.

I always thought they had a lefty bent. The link to Tides confirms it.

I don't think this is good news. Pew is well named. It is to be pronounced while holding one's nose.

Madeline Albright is affilated with PEW.
