April 27, 2004 -- THE conventional wisdom is that the presidential election will be close. It's a 50-50 country, so the CW goes, just as it was in the year 2000.

Kerry is a terrible, terrible, terrible candidate.

It's not so much the policies he proposes, although they don't add up to all that much. The problem is Kerry himself. He no sooner opens his mouth than he sticks first one foot and then the other right in there.

Who are they gonna get to be OBL? The real one died in Afghanistan in October-December of 01.

Kerry's ego is far too great to step down. This is his life's dream. He'd run over his mother to continue now.

1. Senator Breaux--not enough name recognition nationwide.
2. Senator Edwards--possible, but unlikely, not enough time to formulate a "Beat Bush" strategy
3. Former President Carter--there were MANY reasons he wasn't reelected in 1980, and they would be remembered
4. Former Governor Dean--he's already shot himself in the foot on numerous occassions; not even liberals want an unstable quack as president
5. Former VP Gore--yesterday's news, not in a million years
6. Senator Clinton--the only one who has the best chance; she is vicious and power-hungry and she probably has a staff working 'round the clock to formulate anti-Bush strategies on the taxpayers' dime; she is the "best" candidate for the RATs

So long as it was before the state ballot deadlines [in September], then the Democratic Party could proceed to nominate someone else by whatever procedure they agreed upon

Remember that the New Jersey Supreme Court discovered a new right in 2002- the "right of the voters to have a competitive election between the two major parties", and because their election had become "uncompetitive" (meaning that the RAT was going to lose), they eschewed "reliance on hypertechnical statutory language" and allowed a new RAT to appear on the ballot.

You can bet that Cass Sunstein and Lawrence Tribe have this all briefed already, for Hillary's accession to the top spot this October.

Trying to dig up background on a new dim candidate only months before a national election would be virtually impossible. All the Bush commercials against Kerry are already being made. Just like Dean, people are always excited about a candidate they really don't know anything about because they envision the person the way they want until proven otherwise. What you suggest is a recipe for disaster if you ask me.

Hillary will replace Kerry on or about October 9, 2004. She has no intention of allowing more that 28 days of public exposure as the candidate-she could never tolerate it.

And yes, you are right-we should be giving Kerry effin' BODYGUARDS, for heaven's sake-not tearing him down.

He's almost as good as Mad How would have been-maybe better.

You're actually voting a ticket - President AND Vice President - on the ballot. Once again, the wisdom of our forefathers is revealed. If a presidential candidate died in the days leading up to the election, the "ticket" could still be voted upon with Vice Presidential nominee assuming the mantle if elected.

It's much more simple than that (not all states have unified voting for a "ticket")>

On November 2, 2004, we are electing 538 electors who will then elect the President and Vice President some time in December.

Those electors are Constitutional officers, albeit temporary ones, and once they are chosen they can elect absolutely anyone Constitutionally eligible to the office (Article II) who is also free to be elected (Amendment XXII).

If the candidate of a major party dies anytime between election day and the day the electors choose the President, (and if 270 or more electors have been chosen who would have voted for him if he were alive), then those 270 electors simply elect someone else. The "someone else" would not necessarily be the VP candidate, who in many cases would not be the best choice.

If the President-elect (chosen by 270 or more electors) dies after they vote in December, it's up to Congress to decide how to proceed.

ask why Bob Schrum the RAT strategist is so well liked in the party? He is a hater, you only need to see him once to see EVERYTHING he has to say. He is running the media for Kerry and hate will never be a positive emotion.

Kerry will always look foolish speaking the Hate of that wing of the party, because he looks week and hate on a weak person looks like cowardice.

If they do this then they are idiots. What the Dims should be worrying about at this stage is retaining Senate seats both now and in 2006.

If the Dims were smart, they would get behind Bush now, work to bring the nation together and to defeat Islamofacism and then in 2006 work on strenghtening the party and try to wrest some Senate seats away. They should also, get rid of the rampant negativity plaguing the party. By uniting behind the Pres in the war on terror, they can gain just enough credibility to use for 2006.

Then work on 2008. Problem is, like the communists, the Dims are working on a five year plan that went awry when Gore lost Tennessee, his home state back in 2000.

I agree. Its clear that Edwards was the best candidate. Heck, Gephardt or Lieberman would have been better candidates as well. Now they have a Boston liberal who had not been tested in decades finding out that he is out of touch with the rest of the country.

I disagree with your assessement that we should go into activisim mode at this moment to finish Kerry's chances.

Instead, we need to keep following the "give them the rope" tactic. They are their own worst enemy and are continually tightening the noose on themselves.

Bush hasn't fired a fraction of his arsenal yet.

Kerry's arrogance will cost him more votes than anything else he does.

If he doesn't get the nomination I am going to miss seeing him debate GW. Kerry's snot-nosed liberal elitist comments would stand out like a sore thumb in comparison with GW's down home common sense and quick wit.
