It took Specter less than 24 hours to start turning his back on Bush and Santorum and heading back to his leftist supporters in the Democrat Party. I hope all those conservatives who voted for him are happy now. I will vote for the Green Party candidate in Nov. before I will vote for Specter.

Less than a day after his primary victory, Specter touted his efforts to trim tax cuts, retain overtime pay for workers, resist school vouchers and continue embryonic stem-cell research - all in opposition to President Bush.

Take a bow, all you keen FR political strategists who told us how supporting Specter would advance conservatism.

We were already aware of these details, and it comes as no surprise that Senator Specter would attempt to back to the center to win the general election.

He's just playing the game. You think Santorum or GWB are surprised by this? They made a calculated choice. I'd love to hear off the record Santorum's rationale for that choice, out of curiosity.

I've rarely voted for a Democrat, and have never given money to one, but I might make a small contribution to the Hoeffel campaign. Specter has to be stopped, and I see little difference between him and a typical Democrat, except that the Dem will not head the Judiciary committee. Thoughts?

I saw Arlen's little anti-Bush tirade on FNC, it made me wanna puke.

And this maggot Arlen is going to be the NEXT chairman of the judiciary committee if the republicans hold the senate. Dubya can kiss all his judges bye-bye. Sen Sphincter won't even let them out of committee. He'll join up with Chuckie Schmuckster and the rest of the RATS.

And Arlen still says his fighting for Clarence Thomas was his biggest mistake and won't make one like it again. The RATS have won.

Less than a day after his primary victory, Specter touted his efforts to trim tax cuts, retain overtime pay for workers, resist school vouchers and continue embryonic stem-cell research - all in opposition to President Bush. The four-term Republican also called the situation in Iraq a "tinderbox" that could be a problem for the president in the fall elections.

Hey! Your boy won! Congratulations!

Head of the Judiciary Committee as well! What a victory for conservatism coast to coast.

I believe it is imparitive that Specter NOT get reelected in November. I am a very conservative Toomey supporter but will be voting for a liberal demacrat come Nov.

GO HOUFFEL!!! (or how ever its spelled)

I don't blame Bush or Santorum. I blame the Republican voters of Pennsylvania. Thanks a lot.

When elected, do politicians owe their loyalty to their Party, or to their constituents?

Specter has no brain at all. Less than 24 hrs and he is rubbing the Toomey(sp) supporters noses in it. I think we can write off this seat. I beat half of the Toomey supporters will vote for someone else or not at all. You can't just throw away 25% or so of the voted you need and still win.

Conservative friends don't let friends vote for RINOs under any circumstances. It only encourages further breeding.

I am damn near at a loss for words here. Specter and Joe Farah should be put in a time capsule and buried - NOW. What the hell is wrong in Pennsylvania, anyway? All those years of inhaling coal fumes? Too many happy ass fringe religious groups? Pittsburgh? What! I KNOW what is wrong in Maine - you live long enough on potatoes and fish - and we are talking CENTURIES - things go wrong. The very fact that they stay in Maine now that they know that other parts of the country are available to them is indicative of something very wrong.

Here's a nightmare scenario:

Specter wins his election. Hatch, being term limited, steps down as Chair of Judiciary with Specter next in line for that important seat.

Bush loses PA and the election.

Specter, legacy driven, gets a wild hair about "bipartisanship" and shaping the courts to his particular liberal brand of politics works with Kerry and the dems to stack the Supremes with pro abortion, anti gun penumbra loving judges.

Bush made a mistake, a big mistake. The notion that Specter will be beholding to anything conservative is pathetic.

Supporting Specter was a big, big, big mistake. He will NOT help Bush on any of the key votes.

At this point, it would be better to vote for the Democrat next fall and shovel this piece of horse manure out of the senate and the judiciary committee.

Specter has long enjoyed support within liberal-leaning unions and abortion-rights groups, and predicted he would attract Democrats and independents. He said he could help Bush in the fall by pulling moderates to the GOP ticket.

Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to walk around the pile of dog feces you were about to step in. I cast my last vote for Jim Greenwood in 1994, and I cast my last vote for Arlen Specter 6 years ago. I'm through with him. If the Democrat wins, so be it. The GOP needs a little cleansing right now, and the Specter stain is a good place to start.

Specter MUST be denied the chairmanship of the Judiciary. If the only way to do that is to un-elect him, that works for me

We can't trust the White House to support someone with Toomey's track record for family-first politics when the choice is between the "established incumbent" and the "upstart" opponent. If Bush and his staff had supported a "true republican" in Toomey he would have won by a wide margin. Again, the good folks in Pennsylvania get stuck with trash in Specter. There is still a lot of decidedly conservation voices out there who are angry beyond belief that a supposedly conversative president would back and liberal leaning Specter and who are realizing that perhaps Bush and Co. aren't as traditional conversative as once supposed.

This election shows that the moral fiber of this great nation takes backseat to "politics as usual." Until the decent folks of this country take a stand against these abuses of power we will continue to suffer at the hands of big government, whether it be a republican or democrat in the White House.
