FR Exclusive: AP SPIKES JOHN O'NEILL - SWIFT BOAT VETS STORY
Tuesday, May 4, 2004 | Kristinn

Posted on 05/04/2004 6:47:21 PM PDT by kristinn

The Associated Press has spiked reporting on the press conference this morning in Washington, D.C. by John O'Neill and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth where they accused fellow Vietnam veteran and Swift boat unit member Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), the presumed Democratic party nominee for president, of being "unfit to be commander in chief."

The stunning revelation was confirmed by the AP's Washington bureau this evening. A spokeswoman for the AP stated that the wire service had sent a reporter to cover the press conference. However, she said the AP decided against running a news article about it because, "It does not further the anti-Kerry Vietnam veteran story any."

Call these numbers tomorrow, not tonight because you'll just get the night staff. The decision makers work the day shift. I've already called both bureaus this evening.

The phone number for the AP's Washington, D.C. bureau is (202) 776-9400.

The phone number for the AP's New York City headquarters is (212) 621-1500. Ask to speak to the president of AP as that is who the D.C. bureau chief anwers to.

Did you hear that reporterette ask O'Neill who was paying for this press conference? He said he'd paid $1200 for renting the room. No doubt, in my mind, that these honorable men paid their own way to DC.

They don't know whether to promote Kerry as a Vietnam war hero, or to hope everybody forgets about the whole thing.

Then why do they KEEP putting his Vietnam pictures in those ads? HE is the one who keeps making it relevant!

As somebody said here today, it appears that Kerry has staked his run for president on FOUR MONTHS in Vietnam.

But the rules seem to be that HE can talk about Vietnam, but nobody else can question him or his actions.

It's another thing to say that the dems shoudl get a new candidate. THat's a political statement, and they're trying NOT to seem pollitical.

True, but he didn't say that.

He said if the Democrats picked somebody else, the Swifties could all go home -- not that they should.

Not a doubt in my mind either.
I hooe there's a place on their website
to send donations.
I will definitely send one, maybe two.

Media tried in vain to connect them with GOP
or Bush/Cheney, like that would make their testimony
less credible.

Damn media in this country.
Truly our enemy within.
Think how much better our country would be
IF only we had an honest news media.

My brother was there for an entire year, often in underground bunkers along the Ho Chi Min trail. When it was time for him to come home, he delayed it for a day so he could leave by helicopter bringing in supplies because snipers were all around the area where he was. The pilot who brought him out turned out to be his best friend from our home town! They're still best friends. Unlike youknowwho, he has never bragged about his actions there.

My point exactly..isn't that a "political" statement, per se?. What they don't want to do is give the press any possible way to band this as political.

Yet, Terry McAwful can say that Bush was AWOL. Kerry blames this press conference on Bush. Why can't Kerry and his motley crew accept that these vets have their own opinion of Flipper. He's such a looooooser. I'm ashamed to live in the same state that he lives.

It is my hope that John Kerry is exposed for his abuse of Vietnam Veterans, while he became the outspoken member-leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

It's one thing for any American to voice their opinions, peaceably demonstrate and have protest marches. But it's quite another thing when they step up before the American public to inflame citizen's against the very soldiers, sailors, Marines and Air Force personnel that upheld their personal responsibility to serve their country.

It was a frightful war for all participants, as war always is. Yet these men and women stepped up and did the best they could in that politically charged war, that was costing so many lives.

Yes, there is no doubt in my mind that some things happened, such as My Lai with Lt. Calley. Or that some individuals acted out of line in some way. But for John Kerry to go to Vietnam, experience what veterans were going through, and then come home and accuse them of such atrocities is outrageous.

America and it's Vietnam Veterans can thank the likes of Kerry, Fonda, Tom Hayden and others for causing the war to be extended as the North Vietnamese waited out the political war Kerry was supporting sinside America herself. This in turn cost more American G.I.'s to lose their lives.

Kerry is no friend of America or her Veterans that have fought so bravely to defend and protect her. His actions of throwing his medals/ribbons away in public is proof of that. It was his political move to bring public attention to himself for his political career.

Now in 2004 he miraculously recovers those very same medals as proof of his courage and to once again bring public attention to himself for political ambitions. This time, to demonstrate that John Kerry was a war hero, not a war protester and liar.

Oh sure Kerry says he may have been "OVER THE TOP" in his remarks about his fellow Veterans, but the truth of the matter is, John Kerry sat before our government officials and publicly stated that Vietnam Veterans were killing, mutilating and raping the Vietnamese people on a daily basis.

John Kerry is one of those that placed the jacket on all Vietnam era Veterans of being crazy, drug starved, baby killers. It was John Kerry, Jane Fonda and other whacko's that tarnished the soldier of that day. It was he, John Kerry that placed these thoughts into the minds of American's. His method of getting support for his Anti-Vietnam War beliefs.

It worked back then. Vietnam Veterans have had to live with Kerry's words for over 30 years. They were false words, they were lies and other Veterans were forced to seek cover after being attacked upon their return home after serving in Vietnam. They weren't war heroes, they weren't proud veterans, they were ostracized for being murderers, they were spit on, had urine and feces thrown at and on them and pushed aside as those veterans with all of the mental and drug problems. How could anyone step forward to challenged Kerry?

But John O'Neil a Vitenam veteran stood up and questioned Kerry and Kerry couldn't and wouldn't stand up for himself and offer proof of his statements.

But it was too late anyway, the damage was done and John Kerry benefited from tromping on his fellow Veterans. Now folks it's 2004 and it's the Veterans turn to tromp on John Kerry and the lies he is continuing to tell. His denials of his actions 30 years ago, only to be tripped up by film files, personal accounts and by his own hiding of the very book he wrote.

I have a personal stake in this 2004 Presidential election and like John O'Neil, I don't believe John Kerry is fit to be Commander in Chief. As a Vietnam Veteran, I do not like the thought of knowing while I was serving in Vietnam, John Kerry was accusing me and other veterans of atrocities, while I was serving in Vietnam.

It's time for us Veterans to step up now and retake our legacies. It's time my friends to announce to the world that the likes of John Kerry will never set foot inside the White House and soil it's carpet.

It's time Vietnam Veterans to put the truth back into the war that we won and the anti-War acitivists lost. Remember it's not the medals that make the man, it's the man that makes the medals. Stop Kerry, support George W. Bush for President and let Kerry and his weasel friends know he's the real loser.

I guess we just read this differently.

The Swift boat vets are going public to oppose the elevation of Kerry to the position of Commander-in-Chief, because they consider him unfit. It seems almost too obvious to say that if Kerry wasn't running, for whatever reason, that they'd have no reason to continue.

But the rules seem to be that HE can talk about Vietnam, but nobody else can question him or his actions.

And only Kerry could be so arrogant as to think everybody is going to follow his "rules" of debate throughout this campaign.

IMHO his post-Vietnam activities are more or a liability than his 4 months of service and "medals" will ever benefit him.

And I believe the Dems are starting to realize this.

We're not reading it differently, I'm just more cynical about the media..and I'm am NOT argung with you, my friend..just wanna make sure abotu that..so, in that spirit, I'll ask you, is there a diffeence between these twompossible front page headlines in the Wp or the NYTimes:

"Vietnam Vets Group calls Kerry "unfit" to be commander in chief", vs.

Vietnam Vets group demands Kerry step down, or Dems choose another candidate..

It's so creepy to think that Kerry wenk back to Vietnam and playacted in front of the camera so that he could use this pic in his presidential campaign some 30 years in the future. [shudder]

Wait. When you say "he went back," what do you mean?

Are you saying he didn't take those photos when he was there for the Navy?
