Kerry said the Israel "ACE" took the plane off and offered Kerry the controls when it was about five feet off the ground. FIVE FEET?! That's even less believable than Kerry taking off by himself.

It's 100% unbelievable that an IDF jet jockey gave the controls to a US Senator with no jet time 6 feet off the runway.

You are right about that. It was someone else, sorry. On this story, from what I read. Kerry is probably exaggerating, if not flat out lying.

I'm sure it happened.
Only it was inside a computer simulated trainer.

Concur. Transferring the controls while still in ground effect is insane. Anything less than Blue Angel-style coordination would lead to a pranged jet.
Hip-deep BS.

Sounded like hogwash when FOX reported the story over the weekend. In all seriousness, Kerry has mental problems, imo.

I don't think he is comparing himself to Bush. Because of his infatuation with Kennedy, he is probably comparing himself to JFK Jr.
To: VRWC_minion
Bush was a pilot.
Kerry has to do him one better.
He flew an IAF jet and did a loop.
Pathological liar.

Kerry probably did get the flight, US Senators are high ranking VIPs. I'm guessing that he touched the controls for a short time in normal flight at altitude, and the rest is a fantasy. It'll be interesting to see if the IDF pilot will come forward, he's probably retired by now and can speak.

Obviously, Kerry forgot to mention he stayed the previous night in the Jerusalem Holiday Inn.

Where did Kerry stay while in Israel?

Jet control handed to a non-jet pilot 6 feet off the deck?

I'm sure he got the flight, but I'm also sure the pilot wished for duct tape to keep Kerry's paws off the stick until they got to altitude. I can't imagine he did anything but glance at the stick five feet off the deck!

What is sorely needed here, is one of Registered's creative photos showing Kerry wedged into one of those small children's airplanes found in front of grocery stores.

Kerry said the colonel then gave him permission to do "a little aerobatics" and that he made a loop at about 12,000 feet. First, I am an ex-AF fighter pilot and instructor pilot. I have given a number of these PR demonstration rides to people. It is not an unusual thing to do, so it's not surprising the Israelis gave this Grand Phoobah a ride.
I find this tale of his flying not very credible. It sounds like he is brushing up his "hero" patina again by embellishing.
No pilot in his right mind would give the stick to anybody five feet off the runway on takeoff unless there was some sort of catastrophic failure which required it. More likely, if he were the instructor he would be grabbing it. Certainly, he would not hand off control in this critical phase of flight to the likes of a complete novice like Kerry. Not until a completely safe altitude and situation was obtained would he even think of handing it over, and then he would be riding along on the stick like a hawk. This is total bullsh!t about the hand-off, unless the Israeli Colonel was nuts - and I doubt he was.
Next, a loop is not a terribly difficult maneuver, but it does require some finesse - unless the pilot rode through the controls with him which he would surely have to do. More likely, if Kerry did any aerobatics unassisted (as he sort of brags), Kerry did a simple aileron roll, which is about the best somebody without training could attempt successfully alone, and even then he would probably botch it.
A loop requires variable "g"s - up to about 4 or 5 on the pull-up and bottom - with variable degrees of "play" in the stick all through it. It requires good airspeed control throughout the maneuver. It is not a simple maneuver for the inexperienced. Messing it up can lead to a hammerhead stall and a possible spin on the top end. However, an aileron roll only requires moving the stick to the left or right in a more aggressive manner than in a turn. Both will put you upside down. It is more likely Kerry did an aileron roll. Maybe he is just confused, or maybe "loop" sounds better than "roll"?
I think Kerry is full of it, again, especially about the hand-off at 5 feet above the runway. Maybe he rode along for some aerobatics, including a loop, but unlikely he had much to do with them except puke in his barf bag. He probably just rode along, looked at the scenery, made a few easy turns and possibly adid simple aileron roll before he puked and begged to go back home.
Anyhow, that's my take on it, and I speak with some experience in the matter.

If the Col. was an Ace, then he is on this list:
Israeli Aces
Next thing to do is to find out which one of these guys was ever a Col. in the Israeli Air Force.
