Thanks Jim. Being somewhat new here, is there any facility on this site that automatically scans the publication title to make sure the rules are being followed? It sure would be rather cumbersome for us to scan a list like this every time we post a news article.

Rupert Murdoch these guys ain't. I'm sure gonna miss the latest from the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but the others I guess I can do without.

Received another letter from Gannett Publications, publisher of USAToday, and several other newspapers. Due to contractual arrangements they have with third-party content providers, they have denied our request to allow posting of excerpts. They will only allow the posting of titles and links. I wonder if they sent the same kind of letters to DU, or Bartcop, or smirking chimp, etc.

You might want to make a "sticky" of all the pubs we have to excerpt or just link too. Would be convenient.

The Great Falls Tribune is no big loss. I don't read it, and it's a left winged rag.

This is even worse. This is only allowing links. It is strange.

I don't think I've read The Onion since their complaint. The posts here used to remind me to go to their site to read other articles. I wonder how much web traffic these newspapers lose after a complaint. Do they send these letters out to other web pages?

The Arizona Repugnant also leans far to the left. I wonder if the rest of them do too. At least there are no TV or radio stations on there. I know that the same company owns KPNX Channel 12 TV here in Phoenix.
I've been around here for a while, but I never have figured out where the rules are posted. I know there was another prohibited list posted a while back but it seems to have disappeared.

SUX...I MEAN SUX!
I'm really getting tired of this silly, nitpicking, short-sighted junk. Do they have a similar policy with say Google, or Drudge or any of the myriad of websites that post news summaries?
I'm still bitchy enough after the Specter primary win to fire a letter off and tell 'em I'll never buy one of their papers again.
OOoooooo.....I'm mad....need...more...coffee...

Seems to me that publishing a link under these circumstances is doing them a favor which they don't deserve.

Well, long term these papers may lose more than Free Republic does in the bargain. I'm sure most of these half ass publications have little to lure readers to their sites anyway. So, by limiting citations to bare links, they have doomed themselves to obscurity.

What does the 2 liberals freaks in Tulare County have against the Free Republic? Doesn't matter, only thing good about Visalia is the pet store in the mall.

I was just wondering if this applies to everyone or only to the Vast Right Wing FR.
To: Jim Robinson
I won't post even one excerpt from one of their stupid papers.
They must not want any hits on their sites anymore.
Fine with me.
But if I see even one LEFT wing site or any neutral site that's getting away with it, I'm going to scream bloody murder.
To: Jim Robinson
It would seem that the Clinton war on online conservative news forums was just a prelude.
I don't quite understand the prohibition on excerpts, since that is legally protected under Fair Use, but it sure seems that -- if this nonsense keeps up -- we'll have an easier time keeping a list of sites we CAN use rather than a list of ones we can't.
