Outrage as KISS player mouths off on Muslims
Sydney Morning Herald ^ | May 14, 2004

Posted on 05/13/2004 9:25:48 PM PDT by veronica

KISS bass player Gene Simmons has caused an uproar among Australia's Muslim community by launching an attack on Islamic culture while in Melbourne.

The lizard-tongued rock god who is touring Australia with the world's most enduring glam rock band launched an attack on Muslim extremists during an interview on Melbourne's 3AW radio - including comments which were labelled inaccurate.

"Extremism believes that it's okay to strap bombs on to your children and send them to paradise and whatever else and to behead people," he said yesterday.

The Israeli-born US musician went on to say Islam was a "vile culture" that treated women worse than dogs.

Muslim women had to walk behind their men and were not allowed to be educated or own houses, he said.

"Your dog, however, can walk side by side, your dog is allowed to have its own dog house... you can send your dog to school to learn tricks, sit, beg, do all that stuff - none of the women have that advantage."

He went on to say the west was under threat.

"This is a vile culture and if you think for a second that it's going to just live in the sands of God's armpit you've got another thing coming," he said.

"They want to come and live right where you live and they think that you're evil."

Simmons said the United Nations approach did not work and the west had to "speak softly and carry a big stick".

The radio station today fielded calls from Muslims upset at the comments, including Australian Muslim of the year Susan Carland, who said Australian Muslims rejected extremism and did not fit Simmons' stereotype.

Ms Carland said she had two degrees, was doing her honours and "certainly do not walk behind my husband".

Chairman of the Islamic Council of Victoria Yasser Soliman said Simmons' comments were "very unfortunate".

"He's very famous obviously and popular and, as a result, influential," he said.

"Mixing the entertainment world with the political and religious world is a minefield."

He said Simmons had begun by talking about extremists but had gone on to vilify the entire Muslim culture.

"A number of his claims regarding women and what they are allowed to do and not do are wrong - Islam teaches the opposite," he said.

Simmons had a right to free speech, but this had to be balanced against the damage done to innocent people, he said.

"I think it would be good for overseas speakers and commentators to be given some sort of advice in regards to our vilification laws here," he said.

"They leave and go back to where they arrived from, but they leave behind a big mess that we have to live with."

He spoke the truth. Why would Muslims in Australia be offended by these remarks? Because they do support the fanatics that strap on bombs and the slave like treatment of women? Yep, that's exactly what it is.

In the past I have often thought some people on FR went overboard when they wrote that ALL Muslims are the enemy. I thought surely not ALL of them support the actions of fanatics. After the past couple of months, I have to agree that Islam IS a death cult, a cult that makes Jim Jones or Marsh Applewhite look like saints. We've had Muslims come out against the beheading of Nick Berg, but behind closed doors it's a different story.

Typical conservative, everything is black and white.

What does that mean? You think only liberals can see shades of grey.

By my thinking it is liberals that are totally one dimensional in their thinking, completely uncappable of see beyond a single step and with no concept of consequences.

It is by far the conservative position that takes more into account when viewing events. If it appears as "black and white" to you, I think you confuse the conservative certainty in the way things work in the world, the cause and effect, and the certainty of principal that guides one through the world.

Put another way, liberals are like children without any concept of consequnce and unable to accept that conservatives, like parents, have it figured out. The kid doesn't like the answer and won't accept the truth of it. It is not what he wants to do.

I'd go on but I doubt you are even here. Like a liberal, you throw it out and run in typical liberal, shallow, childish debate fashion.

"A number of his claims regarding women and what they are allowed to do and not do are wrong - Islam teaches the opposite," he said.

Oh YEAH? Let's see the proof in the Suryahs! The most damning case against Islam is from the cult's own book itself. Anyone have the sections which codify the subjugation of women?

Muslims always revert to this claim "Islam teaches the opposite, when they want to either 1). silence their critics or 2). excuse their extremists.

They never ever can be found addressing the extremists themselves, seeking to correct what they claim are improper behaviors. They merely want to silence the critics and absolve Islam of any blame.

Any group that cuts a man's head off, holds it aloft and screams "Allah Akhbar" (or whatever), must be most loudly criticized and/or hunted by those who say extremism is not real Islam.

Islam's problems are not with extremists; it's with the teachings of their religion (which are avowedly extremist).

The "either-or" polarizing debates don't do conservatism any favors.

Actually, while Gene and Paul are Jewish, Peter Criss is of Italian descent and Ace Frehly is of Pennsylvania Dutch background. The Ramones are another great band that was mostly Jewish (Joey and Marky; Johnny is Italian-Irish, and I'm not sure what DeeDee's background was.
