Am I too old, jaded, conservative or what? 'Cause frankly..I don't get any of this stuff!!
self

Posted on 05/19/2004 9:51:07 AM PDT by stillafreemind

I'm gonna start this by saying..it's a given that I despise the news media..period. Its a given that I am not a Democrat..and not a Republican,persay..I am a conservative and Christian. I am also a person who prefers to see things black or white..to heck with the gray..I think thats where we started getting into trouble.

I need help in understanding a few issues. I just cannot get my mind around. And even if its something I do not want to hear..I want the Freeper answers. I am open minded..to a point.

Will someone tell my why on Gods green earth, we are simutaniously slapping down our military AND our White House administration AND the people who coped and did what no one else could have pulled off in NY with the Towers terrorists attack? AND we are doing this in front of the whole world..like .. did the war end and I missed it?

I put up with watching the photos of abuse..all well and good..tis the times, I said to myself. But yesterday..when I tried to find the court martial of the first soldier..hello?..it certainly was not spewed over every channel. Correct me if I am wrong, But I thought it was for the world to see...yet I could not easily find it in America? My two cents on the whole abuse thing is this..from Civil War times to present..extracting info from prisoners during wartimes has never been a pleasant thing to watch. But I believe it is a necessary evil. The difference is..the soldiers in the past..the ones who made it home..lived with the actions..we did not have to carry that burden .. they did. The nation was not looking to throw mud on our fighting men and women.

Next .. the Kangaroo courts being held in this country against our military, White House and NY administration is .. in my opinion.. disgraceful, nation shaming, and an act of terror on its own merrits. What relief and satisfaction must the world, who is filled with our enemies, be getting on all fronts of this abomination? NO one could have known for sure where and what was coming. And this commission is so smug..so arrogant as to think that THEY have the answers? Well, I got news..you know darned well that we will get hit again. And guess what? They, the commission, are in the know..they are in the thick of it..they are going to make the policies and judgements. I say we hold their feet to the fire and throw them all in prison if they miss the target and method of the next terrorist attack. I demand that this commission be held responsible for this country's readiness and for this country's loss in just such a scenario.

And the media..gotta wonder. I saw a film clip this morning on FOX about the missle attack on the Palestinians. All well and good..report away. BUT..as they were telling the story of the big bad Iraelis and the poor dead and wounded Palestinians..hey..I am watching the clip. Yes..people were running in the streets..a little smoke here a little smoke there. Men carrying children down the street..men holding on to their own backs..but what?? Not a one of them had any blood. Not a one. And gee .. what little troopers some of those kids were..they were laughing and looking with sweet smiles into the camera. Well..am I to conclude that a bloodless injuring missle has now been developed?

All well and good...I am just an old geizer. I would like to understand what I see and hear. I would like not to be labeled as requiring a tin foil hat. But in one morning all of this occurs on my tv. I ask you, is there a really huge conspiracy..is there a few people sitting up on a hill somewhere pulling the strings? Is there no way out from under the bias and the misinformation and the riotous goings on under the guise of .. we are just trying to help you.?

It seems that this minority and that minority are all running this country. I want the people in that hearing this morning to be interrogated. I want to know who was a victims family member..and who was not. I want to know..out of the over two thousand people who were killed by terrorists..what per cent of their family memebers are so outraged by the radios, that they would embarrass their country and country men infront of the world like this. Is it 5% ..45% ? Have politics become sooo low in this country as to use the most devastating death toll/victims in its recent history for vote ploys? or are we, as Americans so weak, so unable to cope, so spineless, that we have actually become who we saw on tv today?

Finally...as a conservative..I have a few issues with the current administration..that being said. I have stood behind this President 100%. We are at war, this is no time to nit pik. I just wanna know where the hell the republicans who got voted in are hiding? They should be in front of every camera every day. Heck..you'd swear President Bush was from a different party..Pat B. would have had this much support from the republicans!!

Great post! The answer, I think, is that the American liberals are exactly like children. They didn't get their way in 2000, and so they are determined, like spoiled brats, to tear down everything around them, rather than work for the good of the nation.

What a nice rant! ( ;

"We are at war, this is no time to nit pik. I just wanna know where the hell the republicans who got voted in are hiding?"

Heck, I don't know. In the past, I corresponded with my Representatives in Congress and received replies..

As of this year, I have yet to receive a reply from ANY of them regarding concerns that I have addressed.

Frankly, I think they have all gone Globalist on us.

I agree. the biggest lie being told is that Bush and congress cut taxes. Not true they raised them. Every dollar spent by government has to be collected in taxes. All bush has done is delay collection for his massive spending programs. He is a RINO.

"..is there a few people sitting up on a hill somewhere pulling the strings?"

Yes. In a way there is. They are the media. The makers and shapers of 'public opinion', which is always contrary to the actual truth.

I have said before, the broadcast of information implies preparation of information. Preparation implies ownership. Follow the money, and NEVER accept immediately or fully ANYTHING in the media.

Always, doubt, distrust, question and personally validate anything foisted on you by the media...whether it's toothpaste or 'information'.

Will someone tell my why on Gods green earth, we are simutaniously slapping down our military

Because they deserve it. It's clear that there was a major failure to live up to the human rights values that we loudly claimed to hold dear. If we're going to use Saddam's torture chambers as a pretext for war, we must be above reproach. If we hushed this scandal up, this would not be just a black eye for the military, but a crippling wound to its credibility. And it is clear that, while the ultimate blame lies with the prison guards, there were failures in the chain of command as the Pentagon sought to relax the Geneva Protocol protections to Iraqi combatants.

AND our White House administration

Because they deserve it. The advisors Bush listened to getting us into this war really screwed up here.

AND the people who coped and did what no one else could have pulled off in NY with the Towers terrorists attack?

Because there was a failure of the system. NYPD knew enough to order most of their cops to evacuate long before FDNY did. There were communication breakdowns amongst the rescuers that need to be addressed lest we have them happen again. There are lessons to be learned by debriefing the emergency response to the WTC attacks.

AND we are doing this in front of the whole world.

Doing all this behind closed doors wouldn't help our credibility, domestically or internationally, one iota.

Well, since you asked, let me offer my thoughts on it...

First of all, the media in question (television, print, radio, etc.) have an agenda. This agenda for the media are to do what the owners and publishers want, which is to make money, which they do through advertising sales and (to a lesser degree) readers/viewers.

You ask why all this (censored) is going on while we are waging a war on terror? Simple: Ratings!

If you will recall, the tech bubble began to bust towards the end of 1999. However, roughly 9 months before that, advertising sales for the media hit the crapper.

The media lost the king of press soundbites, x42, and were having to deal with a new administration who didn't turn to them to shape political policy, and didn't give unfettered access.

(Imagine a spoiled 3 year old who had his favorite toy taken away, and is throwing a temper tantrum.)

Now, also, the media is seeded with liberals, and they let their biases sway their reporting, editorializing and focus of directing their agenda.

The conspiracy is a conspiracy of demographics and cultural idiocy. What we have is a combination of 100 plus years of modernism and rising secularism coming to full roost, all at the same time that the largest generation of spoiled, oversexed, drug singed, Communist indoctrinated Red Diaper Doper Babies ever to exist is in control. Even corporate boardrooms and executive offices are not spared from the Gramscian wave and you can forget about the public sector and educational institutions. In essence, Goldwater was right.

The first court martial was today early this morning and he pled guilty, sentenced to one year, reduced in rank and expelled from the Army...chose judge only, had a lawyer and the trial was attended but not televised for the media...

It was not a kangaroo court. You are speaking of the hearings and the media!(IMHO)

The media had rather beat the President and get Rumfield than win the war.

Yep. And George Bush is the teacher, in front of the class, telling them that their work ahead is going to be hard and many are not going to enjoy some of it. Bb.bb..Bwwwwwaaaaah!

Great post! I wrote about this yesterday. Either the people you are speaking about hate Bush so much they will do ANYTHING to get rid of him, or they just plain hate this country as it's presently constituted. Either way, I'm sick of it too. These people are dangerous to our way of life!

I heard Rush early this afternoon, complaining that the war is now officially PC, which means we bow down to the press, the RATS and the Euroweenie's demands (they want us to lose), and somehow we're trying to balance winning...sort of...bloodlessly...with not making the enemy mad at us. Obviously, this is insane. We're playing into the hands of people who want us dead.

You are ignoring an even more important group - the academics. Your are nearly uniformly - Marxist, Quasi Marxist - Haters of the American experience.

Thanks for your thoughts. But I am not saying things shouldn't be looked at and see where we can improve. But WHO knew these things would happen in the way that they did? I didn't hear anything today about the improvements..I heard an attempt to point the finger and find someone to blame.

Ya know..if terrorists hadn't rammed two planes into the towers, the radio problem wouldn't look so big, would it? It's just sooo much easier to look back and point the finger than to be civil and sit down calmly, non-judgementally, and make changes that are needed.

If you think the abuse that you are seeing is the only and the worse in American history..I think you are mistaken. Hey, are you saying this country is only coming to its morality now..in this war? I think it could be done behind closed doors. It never had to come out. The military was taking steps to correct it. This is political in my mind, until someone says something that makes better scense to me.

In fact, Rush said by this time we should be in Syria and scaring Iran to death...since Iran would figure out that they're next. But no, we're still wringing our hands over eight or nine prisoner abusers.

Absolutely disgusting. I wish the journalist had been named, but I have no doubt there are some who think this way.

Call me old fashioned, but these people used to be called traitors. There IS an enemy within, as well.

Just think if a Republican, or conservative, said this about a war when a Democrat was in office. Would the media be as silent as they have been on this? Of course not.

we live in very, very dangerous times.
