Bayonet Brits kill 35 rebels (Brits Go Hand To Hand 5 to 1)

OUTNUMBERED British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Army’s first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago. The fearless Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders stormed rebel positions after being ambushed and pinned down.

Despite being outnumbered five to one, they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara.

The battle erupted after Land Rovers carrying 20 Argylls came under attack on a highway.

After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills.

Charge ... tactics from drills

When the fighting ended bodies lay all over the highway — and more were floating in a nearby river. Nine rebels were captured.

An Army spokesman said: “This was an intense engagement.”

The last bayonet charge was by the Scots Guards and the Paras against Argentinian positions.

No it is not, that was issued in the Revolutionary War era,Triangular Bayonets like the one pictured are banned by the Geneva Convention.

It is British, though.

Thanks!

That was great!

A friend of ours died a few years ago from cancer. He was Scottish and a retired police officer. One of his peers plays the bagpipes. He played a song at the end of the funeral.

Then he played a march song from the church to hall for the reception afterwards.

Then to liven things up, during the reception, he played various Scottish and Irish jigs. Some of the attendees did the dances in the patio.

A Scot who knows how get the most out of the bag pipes is incredible!

The first thing the Army did upon our induction was take away all our knives and church keys - the second thing they did was issue bayonets.

Sharp edged bayonets are also banned. They can legally be used only to stab, not slash - a slash is more painful and hard to patch up.
How many vets and active duty types are “war criminals” for carrying sharp edged bayonets?

With that MOS, you were a smarter recruit than I. ;-) Everyone in my OSUT did the same training all the way through.

When I went through OSUT at Knox in '85 (MOS 19D),

I was there in '86. We didn't get any bayonet training either. ;^(

What would you have the Brits do, die?

They were attacked.

They killed the attackers - hand to hand, no less.

No more attackers. Sweeeeeeeeeeet.

One thing is becoming clear about the insurgents there: There may be alot of them, and they may be crazy, but they sure as hell can't shoot and they apparently can't fight worth a damn, either.

Hmmm... "insurgents" as orcs....

I have question... How many of you would you pay 25 bucks for a 2 hour pay per view for them to tell their story?

The longer this goes on the better the enemy wil get. Some even now are learning how to shoot, some are learning tactics. But they are arabs and their history is against them as far as large numbers ever being able to fight anything like a modern war. They are too emotional and too bound upwith honor and shame. They cannot kill coldly. They are emotionally still stone age people.
