PRO-LIFE President PING!
This thread is bookmarked!
I see a hundred 'moments of truth' above............the question is.......why can't you??
The 'moment of truth' is when a politican has to pick between his political future and life. That shows where his 'heart and mind' is. If he can't convince himself to do the right thing, he can't convince me. That's why.
You're miffed that the President supported (the incumbent) Specter in order to get the numbers in the Senate he needs to accomplish the conservative goals he has for the country, and you choose to ignore his massive list of pro-life accomplishments right before your eyes.
I used to think that only the left couldn't see the forest for the trees............
You calculus would hold if the conservatives saw any value in keeping GOP majorities at the cost of tolerating the Snowes, the Collinses and the Spectres.
But given that Spectre is the chief obstacle to pro-life legislation, the value of him getting reelected rather than a democrat challenger elected is at best marginal.
The cost of Bush's betrayal is, on the other hand, greater than just that senate seat, because it signaled conservative politicians in every state that if they run agains RINOs, the GOP komissariat will treat that as an insurgency to be crushed.
You are correct that Conservatives cannot get elected on their own merit; their best hope is to influence the GOP. This does not mean that their interest align with the GOP perfectly, and there are instances when influencing the GOP can only be done by causing the GOP to lose as the conservatives withdraw support. That is the lesson from Pensylvania primary.
That is the lesson you think you taught the GOP.
The message the Bush camp got is
The Conservative far right, even in a low turn out primary, is not numerous enough to defeat the most liberal RINO in the US SENATE. That is the messge you sent. And that is the message received.
No, I was referring to the lesson the conservatives learned, or should have learned, from PA. I was not commenting on the lesson the establishment GOP should learn.
When the conservatives won't turn out to support the RINO party, the GOP will have two options, to further blend with the DINOs into centrism, or cultivate its base with action. I suspect, they will choose the former, but I may be wrong.
"The message the Bush camp got is : The Conservative far right, even in a low turn out primary, is not numerous enough to defeat the most liberal RINO in the US SENATE. That is the messge you sent. And that is the message received."
What on Earth are you talking about? Bush jumped in with both feet, along with the whole GOP establishment, to prevent the pro-life conservative Toomey from beating the abortion-loving RINO who will, if victorious, chair the Judiciary Committee. This will frustrate pro-life efforts for years to come. Even if Toomey lost in November (not a given), pro-life conservative Kyle of Arizona would then chair the Judiciary Committee.
Just like with the last two California Governors races, the White House and the GOP machine jumps in to frustrate conservatives and elect RINOs. There was no obligation for them to interfere, and the traditional pre-Rove sense of decorum dictated that the President and the party machinery would NOT interfere in primarys. All decorum is out the window now.

Impressive list.
Wonderful compilation. Bookmarked.
That should be enough to earn a D- from the American Life League, the "We don't support the partial-birth abortion ban" people.
Thanks, spread the word. Don't forget to e-mail your non-Cathlic pro-life friends too.
There's no gray area with Judy Brown, as the Catholic Church teaches you are either pro life or not, period.
Yeah, just like the pharisees of Jesus's day. Sadly, her fundamentalist protestant tactics (yes, I know she is a Catholic) have done a great deal of harm to the pro-life movement.
as the Catholic Church teaches you are either pro life or not, period.
Not true on two counts. First and much to Judy Brown's chagrin, the Church does permit an "exception" to the prohibition against the deliberate killing of an embryo. Such an act is permissible as a secondary effect of a legitimate defense. Thus, an ectopic pregnancy may be removed to save the life of the mother. I have an archive of Ms. Brown stating on the EWTN's question and answer forum the false and dangerous advice that the fallopian tube must first rupture before such a procedure would be acceptable. Dear Tim, To "remove an ectopic embryo" is to directly attack a human being with an action that will result in her death. And because #1 is what happens in the vast majority of cases, it is best to let nature take its course and avoid the temptation to play God. You are presuming that if the tube becomes infected, the mother will suffer harm. Not so. If the treating physician is doing his job properly, and imminent death is threatened, he will remove the diseased tube in a timely way. She will survive this with one functioning fallopian tube, which means she can still bear a child. Hope this answers the question. Judie Brown
Answer by Judie Brown on 10-26-2001:
She is more than just wrong, her dangerous theology could get some woman killed. Thankfully the wise nun's at EWTN appear to have removed this radical error from their web site.
Second, your absolutist statement about the Church is simply in error. From Evangelium Vitae, section 73:
ALL's fervent and blind work against positive restrictions on abortion such as the Partial Birth Abortion Ban is both destructive and counter to church teaching. It is of little surprise that ALL seems to side more with Planned Parenthood more than it does with National Right to Life on pro-life legislation. I have personally talked to pro-life legislators who are dumbfounded by having a seemingly pro-life organization like ALL work side-by-side with PP to sink pro-life legislation that would limit and reduce abortion. Although ALL does some good protesting work, their misguided legislative agenda is a liability to the pro-life movement.
