The jig may well be up: Iraq is now Vietnam and we are in full-on Vietnam mode. Day by day, the media chips away at the cause, the soldiers, the rationale, and the methodology and the media campaign appears to be succeeding.
The incessant flailing of the public consciousness with rigged polls, interviews with school kids who dont know why there is a war, and ''experts'' who play dumb as to the goals of the war, has induced a sufficient quotient of doubt adequate enough to loose the media dogs of war.
These are the same dogs who brought us--from Vietnam--pot-smoking soldiers, video of a marine injecting heroin, mangled corpses alleged to be victims of American atrocities, and burning villages. They smell political blood and are in full cry and dont give a damn for the lives of the soldiers serving in Iraq: the higher the U.S. body count the better, in their thinking.
Any news now from Iraq is only further proof of quagmire status. Nothing can henceforth happen that wont be spun into a defeat and proof that the military, the campaign, and the cause are all equally worthless.
Its all melting down daily, right in front of your eyes and resistance is utterly futile and useless. The free-fall is accelerating. You can see it for yourself and you know, deep down, the media and the left are perfectly willing to sacrifice soldiers and the entire nation of Iraq to win an election.
To them, a good victory is no longer possible; the only issue left open to question will be the degree of defeat. Children of the 21st Century, this is your Vietnam, and the left has not had so much fun in two generations. Kerry campaign appeals for cash--complete with Iraq war tie-ins--are coming rapid fire. The war ought to be good for about fifty or sixty million in campaign donations if exploited properly. Liberals are rubbing their hands with unrestrained glee, hoping for more American casualties and video of Americans being dismembered. ''I told you so '' is upon their lips, and the claim that every bit of bad news a validation of the wisdom of the societal utopians. Theyre laughing in private, slapping each other on the back, hoping for more casualties today.
And you know that. The political air reeks of defeat, lashed into frenzy by mainstream news anchors droning on about plunging support for the war, Kerry ''surging'' in the polls, and Saudi betrayal on the price of oil and imminent escalation via the dispatch of more troops.
The June 30 transfer power is being ridiculed to no end, proof that the war was a mistake, the outgrowth of a cynical family plan to get even for the elder Bush and manipulate the electorate and polls for political gain.
Protests of what is going on are increasingly muted, any positive news relegated to page 14 of the New York Times where Maureen Dowd is in full cry, righteously reminding us that we should have listened to her many months ago. The totality of the drumbeat is now impossible to stop.
Protests in print here and there by conservatives appear increasingly pathetic, inundated by an awesome display of the raw, naked power of the left. Indeed, the Sarin nerve-gas story of this week has been entirely shrugged off and explained away as a ''lucky find'' for the terrorists, who somehow uncovered a ten-year old artillery shell that may have once been dangerous. The story has been spiked so effectively that Tony Snow of Fox News was compelled to comment on Wednesday that the story has been all but totally censored by every media outlet except Fox News, almost completely absent from mainstream media.
There is no doubt we are witnessing an awesome display of propaganda power from the left. Shamelessly, they have successfully divided the country in a time of war. As a conservative I sometimes feel like little more than a five pound rat dog, yipping at the heels of a savage beast. At the risk of being called a quitter, I ask in all sincerity, "is the left on the brink of winning this war of words?" Unless some issue-defining clarity can be quickly provided by our leaders, I fear for the outcome.

This Country is so divided right now, lord knows what November will bring.
The only thing I can say is VOTE.
Short Answer: Yes.
IMHO: NO, but they're trying awfully hard.
"Media and the Left?"
Re-Dundant............
I told my daughter that the liberals were trying this
Vietnam "message" crap months ago. She said I was nuts. But I plan to e-mail her this article. Thanks for posting it.
However, many people like myself have regretted how the Vietnam soldiers were treated because of politics and the media. I vowed never to let it happen again and I'm sure others of my age regret it also. I was never anti-war but I was not pro-America and patriotic as I should have been.
John Kerry will NEVER become President because of his affiliation of the Vietnam Vets Against the War. When 100,000 march in Washington DC on September 12, the world will be sent a message...support our troops.
Indeed, the relentless flaying, flailing, and foaming of Leftist Press against the President, against the War on Terror, and IN FAVOR of SWORN ENEMIES of the United States, is having the effect they so desire.
The leaping, jumping, flaming morons are apparently oblivious to the fact that they will be among the first to be lined up in front of a belt-fed machine gun with a yawning mass grave behind them, when their multi-culti proctected Muslim buddies institute Sharia Law.
They add a new dimension to the expression, "Useful Idiots".
"John Kerry will NEVER become President because of his affiliation of the Vietnam Vets Against the War. When 100,000 march in Washington DC on September 12, the world will be sent a message...support our troops."
And that scares me. If it is not Kerry, then who? The Leftwing Vietnam era pols are giving it one last crack before they give up their seats to a growing conservative base. They know that they must hand a Whitehouse to a liberal in order to keep the party alive.
The 2004 election is the Lefts Alamo.

If there's one thing the Bush administration can really be blamed for, it's not predicting and being prepared for the bile from the media.
Our first real civil war?
Hopefully by September 12, Kerry will have accepted his party's nomination. But that might be when he accepts it before he rejects it.
November 2, Kerry will lose.
Maybe!
Florida law says Felons must be removed from the voting registers. That be 48,000 people today. The Dems are now fighting for those votes to be cast and counted down in Florida TODAY.
"If there's one thing the Bush administration can really be blamed for, it's not predicting and being prepared for the bile from the media."
First off, how do you know they didn't predict it? Considering that Bush showed off a copy of Bernard Goldberg's "Bias" to the media as they photographed him well over a year ago, I think he made his point quite well there.
Secondly, assuming it is predicted, how exactly do you propose someone can be "prepared" for it?
IMO, he knew it was coming, and he -was- prepared. That's why he didn't try to ride the Salman Pak story, to the chagrin of so many conservatives who believe that it was evidence of Iraqi participation in 9/11 or at least cooperation with Al Qaeda (as I do). Bush could've rested his case on that, or several other things, but the fact is, they were not CONCLUSIVE evidence. The Left, through their infernal propaganda tactics, has raised the bar of "evidence" to the point of insanity. "Preponderance of evidence" is no longer sufficient. Even multiple data points is no longer sufficient. The only acceptable evidence is the "smoking gun" now - where a SINGLE data point, a SINGLE piece of evidence, must be, by itself, so overwhelming that it proves the case all by itself.
Suffice it to say, any criminal who was ever convicted on a single data point, no matter how damning, would have a hell of a grounds for appeal. There's a reason "preponderance of the evidence" matters in a court of law. But it doesn't matter to the media. How exactly was Bush supposed to "prepare" for that?
It's impossible. The media propaganda war is so monolithic that it is itself impervious, because it acts as a filter through which anything Bush could say (including about -them-) gets diluted, deconstructed, misrepresented.
There's only one thing that Bush -can- do... hope the people see through it, and thanks to the growth of the conservative media these last few years, there is at last enough information available for people to see through it. But the media will never just -give- it to anyone- it has to be hunted for.
The only way to combat the media monopoly is to hunt down the evidence that the media is lying, and -insist-, on a personal level, to the ignorants who just sup what the media tells them that they must look at it. Grassroots is the only effective solution. Government cannot be the answer. Censoring the media propaganda would be counter-productive.
No, it's not up to Bush to counter the media monolith. The guy's got his plate full anyway. It's up to us.

The optimism in many comments above is refreshing, but in my dark moments, I see a frightening scenario unfolding. Kerry wins, Al Qaida jumps for joy and pumps nerve gas into America's subways. And to add despair to tragedy, I see the media drowning the public in editorials that blame Bush, Republicans in Congress and the GOP in general for every disastorous failure of a Kerry presidency, and the American people silently nodding in agreement. Please let me be wrong.
You mean a hot civil war, because we're already in a cold civil war.
Only for the weakminded.
I am in my 50s, and I have never seen America this polarized. Something is bound to snap.
"Please let me be wrong."
Sadly, and sickeningly, you are not wrong.
The only thing that is gonna snap is the waistbands on the fat arse lazy complaining Democrats.
