Terror Suspects Named by U.S. Officials
Associated Press ^ | 5/26/04 | Associated Press

A look at suspected al-Qaida operatives U.S. officials believe may be part of a plot to attack America:

_ADNAN G. EL SHUKRIJUMAH: A Saudi native who used to live in South Florida. Nicknamed "Jafar the Pilot," El Shukrijumah is believed to be a possible leader of a terrorism cell or organizer similar to Mohamed Atta. He was a top planner of the Sept. 11 attacks and piloted one of the hijacked planes.

FBI officials began searching for El Shukrijumah last year due in part to the overseas interrogation of captured al-Qaida senior planner Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. Federal prosecutors in northern Virginia last fall obtained a warrant to detain him as a material witness.

Authorities say he may be carrying passports from Saudi Arabia, Trinidad and Canada.

They say El Shukrijumah is of particular interest because of his familiarity with the United States, ability to use fake documents and fluency in English. His family says El Shukrijumah left the Miami area in May 2001 for Morocco and denies he has any terrorist ties.

_AAFIA SIDDIQUI: A Pakistani woman who studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She received a biology degree in 1995 and wrote a doctoral thesis on neurological sciences in 2001 at Brandeis University. Authorities have not charged that Siddiqui, 32, is a member of al-Qaida but believe she could be a "fixer," someone with knowledge of the United States who can get things done for other operatives. FBI officials believe Siddiqui also spent time in the Maryland suburbs of Washington.

The FBI issued a global alert for her arrest in March 2003 and requested that Pakistan locate Siddiqui. A month later, Siddiqui's mother, Ismat, claimed she saw her daughter get into a minicab with her three children for a journey from Karachi to Islamabad. But a senior Pakistani security official said Wednesday that she could not be found. Her husband, Dr. Amjad Mohammed Khan, also is wanted by the FBI for questioning.

_FAZUL ABDULLAH MOHAMMED: A native of the Comoros Republic in the Indian Ocean, he is believed to be al-Qaida's ringleader in eastern Africa. He has been indicted in the United States in the 1998 al-Qaida bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed 231 people. Since the indictment, Fazul's face could be seen on the walls of Kenyan police stations, and he has a $25 million bounty on his head. He is thought to be hiding in Kenya or Somalia.

_AHMED KHALFAN GHAILIANI: A Tanzanian who also goes by the names "Foopie," "Fupi" and "Ahmed the Tanzanian." He is under indictment in the United States for the embassy attacks.

_AMER EL-MAATI: Born in Kuwait, he is wanted by the FBI for questioning about possible al-Qaida links.

_ABDERRAOUF JDEY: A Tunisian who obtained Canadian citizenship in 1995. He was among five men who left suicide messages on videotapes recovered in Afghanistan at the home of Mohammed Atef - reportedly Osama bin Laden's military chief who was killed in a U.S. airstrike in 2001.

Also recovered from the home was a suicide letter by Jdey from August 1999. In the letter, he pledged to die in battle against infidels, according to information released by U.S. authorities in 2002. Jdey also goes by the names Farouq Al-Tunisi and Al Rauf bin Al Habib bin Yousef Al-Jiddi. He might have a Canadian passport. His last known address was an apartment building in Montreal.

_ADAM YAHIHYI GADAHN: A 25-year-old U.S. citizen who also goes by the names Adam Pearlman and Abu Suhayb Al-Amriki. FBI Director Robert Mueller says he attended al-Qaida training camps and has served as an al-Qaida translator. Gadahn says on an Islamic Internet site that he grew up on a goat ranch in Riverside County, Calif., and converted to Islam in his later teenage years after moving to Garden Grove, Calif.

As valiant as an effort the FBI, CIA is putting out these APB's, why do I get the feeling that if anything happens in future, these guys will have nothing to do with it? AQ operatives are probably laughing at the hysteria, while they are lighting the fuse.

It is going to be by the grace of God, and sheer luck that one of the operatives bumbles and shows us a partial hand of that these guys have in mind for our destruction. Prayer and vigilance, or prayer that we would be able to recover after an event is in hand.

We have to keep in mind that in Spain, several of the bombs didn't go off, and they were able to pinpoint the culprits pretty quickly.

If an attack happens in the near future, hopefully not everything will go according to plan for AQ. There will be opportunity for evidence, and we will be able to locate any other devices/weapons before further destruction occurs. It will also allow us to pinpoint the culprits and hopefully finish them off once and for all. It will also provide us with grounds to address Syria and Iran.

Hmmm, a Saudi native who lived in South Florida and possible associate of Mohammed Atta. A good candidate for the anthrax letter mailer perhaps?

Well, I said this last year...

FBI sees terror; family sees good son Ex-resident of Miramar being sought in terror case

Just wondering...does the South Florida Saudi boy, Shukrijumah, have "serious issues" about women and Jennifer Lopez? Did he have conflicted feelings towards J.Lo.? Food for thought...

"Kin of Saudi terror suspect says he's innocent"

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WarOnTerrorism/2003/03/23/49587-ap.html

"...The younger El Shukrijumah disliked the American lifestyle and was offended by women wearing skimpy clothes, but his father insisted that would not translate into his harming Americans."

Having been around Muslims in my formative years, I knew well that they were not the bloodthirsty, barbaric terrorists

How Ironic, now he is one.

"all Muslims are free to reflect and interpret the book given a sufficient education".

This is the basic flaw in their belief system. Its that 'interpretation' which gave birth to such obscenities as militant islam.

Actually, I think such obscenities as militant Islam are correct interpretations. We have 1500 years of correct interpretations.

Christianity has only been used as a weapon during periods of incorrect interpretation...usually to illiterates in the middle ages.

I can see you're way ahead of me.

I'd bet my life savings that this is the cat did it, or he knows who did, and I'd also wager that they somehow got the anthrax through the Saudi businessman Fuad El-Hibri.

The Saudis needed the Ames to create a vaccine against Saddam...

The Saudis would just as likely make a weapon out of it too. Plenty of Russians around to show them how..

So they say at least; the Saudis are natural born lying skunks. For all we know the bastards might have even given Ames to Saddam in the first place at the right price. We know of one failed attempt by Saddam, the second attempt may well have succeeded.
