On Sen. Tim Johnson's Comments: Is There A Taliban Wing in the Republican Party? (Humor)

Sen. Tim Johnson, the Democratic Senator from South Dakota, recently criticized what he described as the Taliban wing of the Republican Party. Sen. Johnson's comments were not the first time that Democrats have said that there is a "Taliban wing" in the GOP. If I am not mistaken, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times said something similar. And NAACP Chairman, Julian Bond, described John Ashcroft's appointment as AG, as an appointment taken out of the Taliban wing of the GOP. Before September 11, many Democrats used to talk of the existence of a "Hezbollah wing" of the Republican Party.

What is a Republican supposed to do? I suppose we could talk of a "Karl Marx wing" or a "Stalinist wing" of the Democratic Party. But as many of us conservatives know, many Democrats are not offended at being compared to communists. For heaven's sake, many (if not most) Democrats think Fidel Castro is a hero, who provides free education and free health care to his people. Most, including John Kerry, admired Daniel Ortega and his Commie Sandinistas, and blocked Ronald Reagan's attempts to arm the Contras. And almost all worship the former Communist dictator of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, and would probably vote to elect him President of the United States, if they could.

It is true that communists killed far more people than the Taliban. But Republicans react with fury and rage, when compared to the Taliban (or Hezbollah), while Democrats are not as offended when they are compared to communists. The different reactions are a constant source of amusement for me. We need to be less thin-skinned as conservatives, lest, the Democrats will continue to take great sadistic pleasure in getting under our skins.

I think we should humor them. For example, let us try to dig up comparisons between the right-wing conservative Taliban, and the right-wing conservative Republicans.

1. Both the conservative Republicans and the Taliban are gun owners, and strongly support the right of individuals to bear arms.

2. The Taliban and the Republicans were both staunchly anti-communist during the Cold War, and the two groups worked closely together to defeat the Soviet army in Afghanistan.

3. The leadership of the Taliban and the leadership of the Republicans, have had a close political and business relationship with the Saudis over the years. Prince Bandar, the Saudi ambassador, is close to top GOP leaders (as Bob Woodward reminded us recently). And Taliban leaders like Mullah Omar, have powerful supporters in the Saudi Royal family.

4. The right-wing Republicans and the right-wing Taliban, both support prayer in school.

5. Republicans and the Taliban both oppose abortion.

6. Both groups oppose pornography.

7. Both groups oppose multi-culturalism. Republicans want a society in which ONLY American culture and Western civilization are promoted, while the Taliban want a society in which ONLY Wahabbi fundamentalist Islam is promoted.

If we do not deal with this issue with a sense of humor, Democrats will continue to pound conservatives and the GOP, with comparisons to fundamentalist Muslims.

We have to face stark reality. Democrats are not as offended when compared to communists, as we are when we are compared to Islamists.

In our case, the comparison isn't valid. In their, it is. Simple as that. They have it in them to be mass-murders. We, contrary to the gaseous postings on DU, do not.

Like many on this forum, I have been an armed representative of the United States. Liberals might grow up one day. Taliban, Al Qeada and Communists, Serial rapists and murderers will not. As objectionable as Liberal idiots are, some of them have the native intellect to make the epiphany. Funny how nobody noteworthy goes then other way, isn't it?

On 6, do you have any proof?
On 7, then explain why we do not enforce our countries laws against the hiring of illegals?
