The F-4 Phantom jet standing guard outside American Legion Post 109 on the Southeast Side has been repainted with the red, white and blue it wore when it was part of the Air Force Thunderbirds air-show crew in the 1970s, thanks to the wrangling of a local Girl Scout troop.
The plane will be rededicated at a Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday at the McCulloch-Wagner American Legion Post 109 hall, 15921 S. Houghton Road in Corona de Tucson.
"To me, it brings the reflection of the airplane and what's been accomplished," said Ernie Salazar Jr., a legion member who retired from the Army. "Having it there brings more pride in the whole mission we have, to honor the fallen comrades."

In my book, the F-4 will always be the toughest, meanest looking fighter.
2nd place goes to the FB-111 fighter/bomber.

We have a marine scouting base here in the Keys. They take scouts from all over the country on fishing/boating trips that often become once in a lifetime stuff for the kids. I help them every opportunity I get. Scouting been bashed unmercifully for holding their ground against accepting gays. Everyone needs to stand tall for them.
