Posted on 05/31/2004 11:27:33 AM PDT by GeorgeW23225
What a great "spontaneous" moment!! I hope you all got to see the ovation Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld got today at the ampitheater of Arlington National Cemetary.
When his name was announced, the crowd went abolutely wild!! The screamed, cheered, whistled, & stomped their feet. The look on Rummy's face was priceless, but.....the BEST part was when the President stood and gave Rummy a standing ovation. The crowd went NUTS!! And so did I. I found myself standing in front of the T.V. applauding, and giving Rummy a standing "O" along with the President. It was a great moment, and it touched Rummy deeply. If y'all missed the moment, I'm sure FOX will replay it!!
Secretary Rumsfeld is great, such an asset to this administration. Calls from the left for his resignation are so pathetically misguided that it's clear they have no concept of a strong, civilian military leader.
Wow! What a great boost for a great man. I'm grateful that President Bush reaffirmed his support for him in such a meaningful, public manner.
He sounded as if he was a bit flustered by the ovation when he started speaking.
You can certainly see how increasingly out of touch the media and the dems are with the public.
Look at that ranting loon, Gore (a man I used to have some sympthy and respect for) calling for the president to fire almost his entire administration, 6 months before the election. If the people don't like Bush, or the people he has working for him, in a very short time they'll be able to send that message loud and clear. I guess Al knows just how unlikely that is to happen, so he's trying to get his licks in now.
When you have Jesus on your side, you don't have to sweat polls, and you can readily support your friends who have done so well. God love both of them.
"Calls from the left for his resignation are so pathetically misguided that it's clear they have no concept of a strong, civilian military leader."
No, I think the point is they DO know what a "strong, civilian military leader" he is. He's too good for their liking and helps the President.
OK, With Rumsfeld receiving standing O's it is clearly time for him to step down. </sarcasm>
Isn't it great? That is what true freedom is all about.
I feel better now. (Still getting over nitwit family visit)
Mostly because I always liked Tipper. Now I just feel sorry for her.
AMEN! We cannot lose heart with that thought!
Anyone got pics?
I was at the West Point graduation on Saturday when he received a similar reception as he walked on the field, and then again later when he stood up to speak. And yet a third time when he finished his address to the cadets and to all of us!
It was a great moment, wasn't it???
Here's my theory..........
We have been putting up with so much being dumped, and dumped, and dumped on us ( I believe the football term is "piling on") that when given the opportunity, the crowd just exploded with emotion. I hope this is a trend, and that we see more spontaneous "explosions" of emotion in the days, weeks, and months to come!! It's about time!!
A commentator I was listening to at the time, said he rarely ever saw Rummy get so emotional. It really was a great moment, and SO well deserved!!
And BRAVO to the President for leading the standing "O"!!
AMEN and HALLELUJAH !!
Americans are letting their voices be heard. And this is just the beginning, the momentum is ours. :^)
First mention I have had of a Presidential Push. Would love to hear more.
I did see Secretary Rumsfeld receive his utterly fabulous ovation from that crowd and I was more than pleased for him. He deserved it and I thank the people in attendance who supplied it. What liberals and the liberal media simply do not understand, or if they do, they refuse to acknowledge it, is that our military love and respect him and the American people love and respect him and are grateful he's our Secretary of Defense. And it was very classy of President Bush to stand and applaud Secretary Rumsfeld.
I hope that this is a sign that Dubya gets it. Whenever the shrill voices of the left rise with an insane diatribe, like these calls for resignation, Dubya needs to respond with more than just "No, I'm sticking with him." He also needs to chide them for their foolishness and hysteria. 'Course, maybe he does and Rather Clueless keeps that clip off the air.
Not the Bush style. Why add more fuel to the fire? He just shows class and keeps on doing his job and lets the others do the fussin' and chidin'. It works because then we have to get mad and fight for them.
Go to the c-span video archives, look for laying flag at Arlington
It comes at about 32.12 minutes into the festivities, you can fast foward to it there. It is worth the trouble.
Your report made my day. Thanks!
I was watching, but didn't see 41 push Slick Willie. I would have prefered if he had "hit" him!!
It was really a memorable moment, and I was not expecting anything this dramatic. That is why it was so special!!

Howlin has the picture, maybe she will post it.
Thanks for the photos!!
I just caught the tail end - the media was showing Clinton trying and pushing to stand as close as he could to Sr. Bush and get in the picture & that was shown from two angles. At first I didn't recognize Clinton, he has lost a lot of weight - then as he tried once more to hog the spotlight, there was sort of a shove. Bill Clinton is so disrespectful; so undignified and just right down rude and I dont give a whit if he was the president between the Bushes, he was never Americas president, just VIP for foreign interest, the United Nations and the DNC.
Speaking of Al and Tipper....I had read an article about these two back during Clinton's first four years in office and it wasn't flattering in the least. Apparently Disney had loaned Al and Tipper two costumes for Halloween. Tipper was "Beauty" and Al was the "Beast" from the Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast". Somehow, these two had forgotten to return the two costumes when they were done with them and Disney had a fit. I don't recall if they actually ended up returning them, or paying to have new ones made....I just remember thinking how utterly arrogant they were to pull a stunt like that.
"'Course, maybe he does and Rather Clueless keeps that clip off the air."
That is a good possibility. The media, especially Dan Blather, does not want to say anything good about the President, his cabinet, the war, or the good being done in Iraq. I refuse to listen to him any more ...... in fact, the only national news I listen to is Fox.
I watched it live...it wad the crowd who started the standing ovation and the President then followed along. Rumsfeld was taken back.
Were you aware that 3 libs (spewing Bush hate) have been booed in the last 2 weeks ..?? I do believe it is a trend - and it's not good for Kerry.
Oh yes they do. That's why they want him gone. He will frustrate their plans to turn this country into a bunch of libwimps ruled by the likes of COFFEE ANON!
But not everything that happens on this Earth is God's will--a lot of dreadful things happen here, for as Jesus told us, this is the kingdom of the Devil for the time being. So even if Jesus is on Bush's side, which He unquestionably is, that doesn't guarantee a political victory in November. I pray daily that he will have the victory, but it's far from a certainty.
My heart sings with joy and jubilation this Memorial Day! In my lifetime I have never been prouder of our President, our Secretary of Defense, the President's Cabinet and all our men and women serving in the United States of America's Military all over the world.
God Bless America and guide Her through the upcoming months.
Just so you don't miss this
I think you're right that the public is more than sick and tired of this "piling on".
Abu Garaib, Abu Sharaib.
Wars are enourmous endeavors and bring out all human attributes. As anyone who has seen or read Band of Brothers knows, humanity has it's share of drunks and criminals and murderers. But we still honor the heroism that existed, too. I hope this young generation will be served likewise. I've underestimated them.
Some really corny joke so he could get into the picture.
Thanks for the Post . would give $50 bucks to watch him punch Bubba in that wine blossom nose.
