The Open Door: How Militant Islamic Terrorists Entered and Remained in the United States, 1993-2001
Center for Immigration Studies Paper No. 21 ^ | Steven A. Camarota

Posted on 06/01/2004 9:47:14 PM PDT by Robert Lomax

Executive Summary

The nation’s response to the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 has taken many forms, from military action to expanded security measures at airports. As important as these measures are, there is probably no more important tool for preventing future attacks on U.S. soil than the nation’s immigration system because the current terrorist threat comes almost exclusively from individuals who arrive from abroad. The purpose of this study is to examine how foreign terrorists have entered and remained in the country in an effort to identify weaknesses in the system that can then lead to meaningful reforms. Rather than just focus on 9/11, we examine terrorism on U.S. soil over the last decade to provide a more complete picture of the threat.

While no immigration system can be completely foolproof, if only some of those involved in a terrorist plot can be stopped by our immigration system, it is possible that whatever conspiracy they are part of could be uncovered. Including the 9/11 hijackers, 48 foreign-born militant Islamic terrorists have been charged, been convicted, pled guilty, or admitted to involvement in terrorism within the United States since 1993. Almost all of these individuals are now thought to be linked to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda organization. This study focuses on militant Islamic terrorists because the threat they pose dwarfs that from any other terrorists, foreign or domestic. In addition to 9/11, some of the plots examined in the study include the murder of employees outside of CIA headquarters, the first attack on the World Trade Center, a plot to bomb the subway in Brooklyn, plots to bomb New York City landmarks, and the Millennium plot to bomb Los Angeles International Airport.

Since you don't even know the dates of when what happened, maybe you aren't all that knowledgeable politically either. Just a wee thought. :-)

Okay... one more time:

1. I don't KNOW what I'm going to do yet. I'm not excited about deciding.

2. The prospect of a Kerry presidency MORTIFIES me.

3. I'm trying to decide whether this place won't go downhill regardless of who's president.

4. Your straw men of my arguments are becoming rather tedious. Argue with me, but PLEASE answer my points if you wish to do so.

I've answered your points, but whether you realize it or not, you're beginning to sound like a morose teen...all doom and gloom and sunk into a blue funk.

I really meant that suggestion...take some time off.Ignore politics until July. Then watch the Dem Convention!

Actually, the date is now immaterial as the republican party who is in control has given us bigger government and turned blind eye to the immigration laws. It is no longer a date to be proud of. These are the same republicans who let Clinton get away with anything he wanted.

You are the one who doesn't sound like a republican. You must have been a democrat for years as that is exactly what you sound like forcing your way on everyone. Republicans don't act like you.

Republicans act like me,dear...they don't "act" like YOU!

I have probably been a Conservative and a Republican far longer than you.I have NEVER been a damned Dem;who you want to help and I don't.

The date is neither moot, nor "immaterial".You don't care enough about facts,to know them. You don't know enough about politics,to realize what's a Republican statement and what isn't.And,FWIW,the GOP majority in the Senate,is so slim, that it hardly counts;not to mention the high numbers of RINOS and the fact that Frist can't do the job he now holds, worth a damn.

You want to throw ad hominems around? First, you'd better have far more political knowledge than you do now and second, you'd best NOT try to play that with me.:-)

The POINT is his leftover ban the bomb tripe.DISARM AMERICA,BUT ALLOW EVERY ROUGE NATION TO HAVE NUKES. That's a recipe for utter and complete disaster. And YOU yawn at THIS?

From a national security standpoint, this is one of the most important elections in the history of this nation.

All of your concerns about Bush will become moot if Kerry is elected. And if Kerry is elected the things that bother you about Bush now will be wiped under the rug and replaced with 1000x worse policies.

Can you imagine Kerry and the dem's with the Patriot Act? They scream that they would modify it to remove the constitutional questions, but that's BS, pure pandering to folks who are sitting on that fence the fools they are. Look what Hillary did illegally with 700 FBI files. Imagine how her ilk would abuse the Patriot Act.

National security is everything. If we lose that all else becomes irrelevant.

Your post #15 makes a lot of sense. I feel about the same way. Republicans have basically left the conservatives high and dry. As the Dum-a crats moved further and further to the left, the Republicans have becone centrist. GWB's lack of a coherant border security program is really such a huge issue. The fallout of having 3 to 5 thousand illegals streaming over our borders every 24 hours (2000 every 24 hours in Cochise county AZ alone) will have far reaching implications further on down the road. Bush should have made a MUCH greater effort to try and secure our borders immediately after 911, when he could have easily done so, from a political standpoint. Now, three years later, his re-election is more important to him than "homeland security". Any one with a shred of common sense can see the massive costs illegals bring down on the American taxpayer.....as well as a glut of social problems (see California for more details). Is this what we want for our kids and grandchildren. GWB's policy regarding illegals is EXTREMELY shortsighted. I would have no problem voting for him if he had the political balls to just tell it like it is. If he came clean to the American people and just stated that along with being illegal (a no brainer), illegal immigration is simply not fair to the tens of thousands who are trying to emmigrate here legally. It has been an economic disaster for many businesses in my state, as well as the fact that illegals erode our tax base. We, as a country, can and should not be a dumping ground for other countrys' "undesireables". I am all for measured, legal, immigration.
The effects that illegals have had in the trades in the North East has been devastating.....but that's for a whole other thread....

Maybe they should just stop immigration for awhile, until they figure out how to handle it. Wonder if anyone has thought of that?

I have, you have, but has anyone in government? This makes sense, so I'm sure the government hasn't given this any thought.

I'll try and get back to read the entire article later.

I need a little help here.... Who was the President from 1993 to 2001? I can't seem to remember who it was because the guy must've been out of the press or something going to work everyday for the American people......

Agreed.

And it's not worth it at this point to vote Republican and get a little of what you want, in my opinion. My first priority is the preservation of this nation. Several things must happen to that end:

1. Repatriation of ALL illegal aliens. To do this, we must put a five-year moritorium on most immigration as we deport and attrite the illegals that we have and secure our borders. In addition, the "anchor baby" law HAS to go.

2. Rebuilding of our military forces.

3. Our nation has to stop bleeding money through budget and trade defecits and has to stop inflating our currency. Otherwise, we are headed for a long-term economic disaster. We can accomplish this by seriously cutting the corporate tax rate (-3% as Kerry is proposing will NOT do the trick) and reconsidering our positions on NAFTA and WTO--bureaucracies under the clever guise of "free trade."

4. Decentralization of education. "Leave No Child Behind" is not bad in and of itself, but it becomes bad because it federalizes control of public schools. Now, regardless of the intentions of the bill, public schools will be increasingly under the control of corrupt bureaucrats rather than school boards, states, and parents, and the NEA will no longer have to lobby on a state-by-state basis. They can now accomplish their liberal social engineering agenda with one fell swoop. And whenever the Democratic Party is in control, they will take advantage of short-term public discontent with policies like LNCB and make it easier on public schools, worsening them in the process. Republicans slept with the devil by collaborating on this, and it WILL come back to haunt them.

On most of these fronts, Bush has been a major disappointment. Maybe he'll do better than Kerry on some of them, but so what? It won't be nearly enough to save our country from sinking into the abyss.

That is what I will consider when I step up to the ballot. Perhaps voting for Bush is, at this point, not going to make enough of a difference that I don't want to make my minuscule voice heard by saying, "HEY! Listen up! You don't take care of me, I won't take care of you!" I don't know whether I'll vote for Bush or Peroutka. These last few days, I'm leaning more toward the latter.

Of course, I'll still vote for Republican legislators. THAT is the really important thing this election... ESPECIALLY Marilyn Musgrave.

National security is everything. If we lose that all else becomes irrelevant.

Actually, preservation of America and its greatness is everything. National security is an important incidental step to that end, but it does not make all else irrelevant (and FWIW, given the Aztlan movement, illegal immigration IS relevant to national security). See my post #59.
