Except the owners of the company, their shareholders. Do you believe the nation should own HP, thus engendering its "loyalty?"
IIRC, sawmill, much less paper is being made in the USA because SE Asian mills are now producing it MUCH more cheaply. About 25% of mills in USA have closed in the last five years.
If you're in timbering, you know what's happened.
I know exactly what has happened in the timber industry (at least in se TX and w LA)
Thats why about two years ago I found another way to make a living.
I left a job I had been at 28 years because my customer base (sawmills etc) had dwindled to the point it was hard to make a living as a commissioned salesman.
I was able to work those 28 years within a radius of approx 30 miles of my home.
Now I am the sole sales representative for a manufacturer that supplies a product to OEM accounts nationwide, it is still selling although not anything related to wood products industry.
The product we build (here in Texas) is also facing import competition.
Our foreign competitors have so far not been able to meet the quality standards nor the documentation requirements that we are able to provide our customers.
So far in my business life I have found one thing to be true...there is always a need (or want) for service and when it all comes down to it, the guy that gets the job done generally gets the business.
A cheap price isn't always everything.
It might be on say ...pillows or t-shirts or ballcaps or any number of things.
I luckily found something that still requires some service that is hard to supply from 10,000 miles away.
Unfortunately, a lot of manufactured goods which are OEM components in autos and other vehicles are now being made offshore because of pricing demands from buyers at GM/FoMoCo/Daimler.
PRC can meet the specs, and if they don't, nobody knows until the car has 20,000 miles on it anyway. You can look at any number of screwups--but it's hard to identify exactly who/what/where/why. Ah, well.
You're right: a personal-service, engineered special part is hard to beat with the overseas bunch.
It is a sad day for academic standards when someone with a Master of Science degree in economics fails to grasp the rudiments of apostrophe usage.
Just for your information, I dont need ot check any links.
How delightfully resistant to ideas and information you are! Was this approach something you learned while pursuing your graduate degree?
NO but I believe Americans should be loyal to America. Not put the all mighty dollar above country.
Actually, Marx "supported" free trade because he felt it would lead to class conflict. In other words, the lower wages, lower standard-of-living, and poor working conditions that he felt were a result of free trade would turn the worker against the employer.
Now, who on this thread is making that argument, the free-traders or the protectionists? [scratching chin]
Thanks for your clarification.
Now that you understand Marx's position, perhaps you'd like to re-examine yours.
The 'free-trader' (whose posts were removed above) describes himself as an MS Econ. He's the one who apparently does NOT understand Marx.
Probably Walter Williams.
What's that supposed to mean? Now that I understand Marx, I should become a Marxist? [laugh]
Nope. But you COULD stop bashing the Fair Trade crowd, for example.
That would explain the little laser pointer thingee duct-taped to the side of you head.
That and the USB connector in the of my head.
Yes, I could . . . as soon as they stop calling me a traitor. So don't hold your breath.
