A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Why is the media so gloomy about Iraq?
by JohnHuang2
Go ahead. Try finding a newspaper these days without headlines of Quagmire! Quagmire in Iraq! splattered across the front page. Bet you can't. Tales of Iraq woes lead the evening news, night after night after night. The Gloom & Doom is relentless. Nice job, media guys. Gotta hand it to 'em. Yet, let's look at the situation realistically. No matter how you slice it, no matter how you spin it, these past two months have been anything but a cakewalk. There's no denying that. Can't blame the media for being gloomy, when you think about it. Raw numbers don't lie, for one thing. Since the latest burst of violence began, hundreds and hundreds of Army soldiers have been reported killed in combat -- Army "soldiers" in the "Mehdi Army", that is. That's Moqtada al-Sadr's "movement". The Mighty Mehdi Army would lead a 'Generalized Uprising' against The Great Satan across central and southern Iraq if only the Great Satan weren't creaming 'em so badly across central and southern Iraq. Once considered 'fringe', Sadr's now considered radioactive, and -- except for a few body twitches here and there -- his "movement" now barely moves. Now do you see why the media's so gloomy? Sadr's devotees at Reuters bet the farm on Sadr, now look what they've gotten. His career in ruins, Sadr's only hope now is landing a gig as spokesman for that other fringe group, the DNC. (Oh wait -- he was already doing that).
Same deal with Fallujah. The Mighty Sunni rebels would lead a 'Generalized Uprising' against The Great Satan across central and northern Iraq if only the Great Satan weren't creaming 'em so badly in Fallujah. Two months ago, what looked like a promising Sunni rebellion to drive out the Infidels turned into a dud. Now the Sunni "rebels", led by a former Ba'athist general, report to U.S. Marines. With Fallujahites on a chill pill, the media's Sunni optimism is gone.
That's not to say Saddam's loyal followers have given up. Nancy Pelosi hasn't given up. Did you catch her remarks the other day?
"I believe that the president's leadership and the actions taken in Iraq demonstrate an incompetence in terms of knowledge, judgment and experience," the California Democrat recently told reporters. Recent events in Iraq buttress her glowing assessment. So dismal is Bush's incompetence in terms of knowledge, judgment and experience, his incompetence named a brand new interim government in Baghdad Tuesday. This incompetence selected a new President, two Vice Presidents, Prime Minister, and the entire incoming government due to take power on June 30, the handover date, in keeping with incompetent Bush's Iraq plan which doesn't exist. As Washington and London circulate a revised resolution at the U.N., the selections for top posts were confirmed in a statement by U.N. envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, acting on behalf of Bush's incompetence. The move thrusts Iraq closer towards democracy and free elections. Bush says "it brings us one step closer to realizing the dream of millions of Iraqis: a fully sovereign nation with a representative government that protects their rights and serves their needs." (New agreement, new government, new U.N. resolution -- Bush, this is no way to be incompetent).
Not So Fast, says the media. The appointment of Ghazi Mashal Ajil al-Yawer to the largely ceremonial post of President amounts to defeat for America because al-Yawer wasn't America's First Choice. Former Foreign Minister Adnan Pachachi was that First Choice (I think Pachachi wanted his nomination delayed till after the convention). The media also calls this Yawer guy who wasn't America's First Choice nothing but America's servile lackey, noting he was picked by the Iraqi Governing Council. The media considers the Iraqi Governing Council, which picked Yawer over America's objections, nothing but America's servile lackey whose choice of Yawer the media says constitutes a huge defeat for America because it shows America has little or no control over the situation. Got that?
The appointments were announced one day after the media declared negotiations between the Council and U.S.-led Coalition over the head of state post as hopelessly deadlocked. The sharp differences plunged war-ravaged Iraq into a Deepening Crisis of discussion and exchange of ideas. The dialogue threatened to spiral out of control, with keen observers calling the open exchange of opinions proof of Bush's incompetence. Governing Council rebels would lead a 'Generalized Uprising' against the U.S.-led Coalition across Iraq if only Governing Council rebels weren't such servile lackeys! The Deepening Crisis ended one day later in agreement.
My take? The whole thing was a bold stroke of strategery. As the little cranks on TV gripe over the messy process, unable to burst from In-The-Box thinking constraints, the U.S., in a cunning calculation, pretended to back Pachachi, knowing the Council would go with al-Yawer. With the Council 'bucking' Washington's 'choice, al-Yawer appears unsullied, free of foreign meddling, the sovereign choice by sovereign Iraqis, quelling criticism of heavy-handed U.S. influence. The media, unable to connect the dots, their Bush-hate operating on all cylinders, largely lapped it up. It was a masterful political balancing act, reaping huge dividends for Washington, to say the least. Machiavelli had nothing on Bush.
Anyway, that's...
My two cents.. "JohnHuang2"

Great thread.
The media, unable to connect the dots, their Bush-hate operating on all cylinders, largely lapped it up.
The media has blinded itself through anger. Liberals are so filled with hate that they can only see red.
What a depressing bunch!

The media and congressional Democrats desperately want there to be problems with Iraq, because it "proves" that they "were right" to "ask questions" and "be cautious" before the conflict began.
Some of them have even fallen for the non-sequitur that people are "questioning their patriotism", so this "vindicates" them from something that never happened in the first place.
To paraphrase Voltaire, "if Quagmire did not exist, it would be necessary to invent it".

The media has blinded itself through anger. Liberals are so filled with hate that they can only see red.To hate your own country is like a self hatred, it's so self destructive.

Thanks for the kudos MEG. John did a great job of bringing the truth together for us again.

Good morning (((Dolly))) and thanks. Sorry to hear of the sinus problems, I had my share of them last week.
To: Conspiracy Guy
We must all help each other be ready and try to get others to see the light so that they can get ready. One of the many reasons why I post Our Daily Bread.
It helps keep us on track, we are able to start the day thinking of The Lord,
and reminding us that we are servants and the mouth peice for Him.
Jesus commanded us to go out and preach the Good News to the world.
I try to do my part.
