Geragos deconstructs prosecution's case against Peterson

Defense attorney: Fetus was born full-term therefore defendant's not responsible for murders

By Jason Dearen, STAFF WRITER

REDWOOD CITY -- Scott Peterson is a cad not a killer, his defense attorney said Wednesday as he began an assault on the very essence of the evidence against Peterson -- when his wife and child died.

In the scenario cast by attorney Mark Geragos, the child was born alive weeks after Christmas Eve 2002, the date prosecutors say his mother, Laci Peterson, had been killed.

"If this baby was born alive, clearly Scott Peterson had nothing to do with this murder," Geragos explained to the six men and six women of the jury. .......

Peterson's lawyer attacks investigators' work

By Brian Anderson

CONTRA COSTA TIMES

REDWOOD CITY - Saying Scott Peterson was "stone-cold innocent," defense attorney Mark Geragos blasted the police detectives Wednesday who investigated the murder of Laci Peterson and the thin case he said they cobbled together against her husband.

In his first chance to lay out his side of the case, Geragos said Modesto police believed early on that Peterson had something to do with his wife's Dec. 24, 2002, disappearance and they worked to prove only that. Through slipshod detective work, lies and far-fetched theories, they built a laughable case from circumstantial evidence that led to the prosecution of an innocent man, he said.

"The evidence is going to show beyond any doubt that not only is Scott Peterson not guilty.""......

REDWOOD CITY -- The same gravity that is holding together the "12 galaxies" apparently had enough pull to draw San Francisco's eccentric sign-toting icon, Frank Chiu, and others looking for a little collateral publicity, to the Redwood City Courthouse on Tuesday for the start of the Scott Peterson murder trial.

Parked near the courthouse in a van covered with biblical and anti-abortion messages, Ronald Brock of San Diego sought attention for his message that killing an unborn child, through abortion or any other means, is a crime.

"Murder is murder, give Conner justice," read a banner on the van. Conner was the name Scott and Laci Peterson planned to give their unborn child before a pregnant Laci disappeared in late 2002. Her husband is facing two counts of murder for their deaths.".....

Geragos: Peterson didn't do it

1:23 p.m., PDT: REDWOOD CITY - Scott Peterson had nothing to do with his pregnant wife’s murder - and his legal team will prove it, defense attorney Mark Geragos declared dramatically this morning during his opening statement.

“The evidence is going to show clearly, beyond any doubt, that not only was Scott not guilty, but stone-cold innocent,” Geragos told jurors.

Peterson, 31, of Modesto, came under media and police scrutiny after Laci Peterson vanished Dec. 24, 2002. But Peterson had no opportunity to kill her and their unborn son, Conner, Geragos said.

Evidence will show the baby was born alive, the Los Angeles lawyer announced in a series of revelations. They include:

Laci Peterson knew that her husband bought a fishing boat shortly before she vanished - and “was in the boat Dec. 20.”

The Petersons didn’t talk about the boat, even during......

Beth from Court TV said that the family is behaving like pigs in the courtroom: inappropriate laughing.

Amazing! I thought that was gossip ... but apparently true.

She was one of five witnesses so far. Evidently nobody asked her!

The jury is filing back in and Amy Rocha IS the next witness! So don't speed home......I doubt it will be on!

Back to the maid, the mop, and the bucket. Somebody was mopping up something the day after the maid came. That leaves scott, or 8-month pregnant Lacie. Also maid says some blinds were up, some down. Police said all blinds were down when they got to the house.

Man, we need to see this for ourselves. I hate second, third, and defense specialists telling me what was said!

Heard it...AND did I misunderstand Amy Rocha saying Laci was in a polkadot shirt at Salon Salon? That was found ON TOP of the hamper, not in it. She was surprised as she was undressing. That's what it sounds like they're getting at. No shirt on her body when it was found.

Beth is saying that the Petersons are laughing when Geragos insults the police.

Such low class. Apple, tree, all that.

The 6th witness to take the stand is Amy Rocha. She took the stand at 4:50pm Eastern.

She identified Laci by pointing to a photo of Laci in the courtroom.

She also identified Scott Peterson in the courtroom without looking at him.

She went on to explain the floorplan of the house with the aid of a pointer and a graphic of the floorplan. She is under Direct examination by Distaso.

She wore two outfits that day; dark/black pants to the grocery store and day spa between 10 and 1.

Then she showed up at the salon in tan/khaki pants and a black/dark shirt. That's the last thing she was seen wearing.

I know. I'm typing, listening, watching, and fuming!

All I know is the petersons sound like the kind of people who could certainly do their part to ensure scott peterson gets no mercy, all the way to the electric chair. I mean, why don't they just wear "Free Scott" sweatshirts to the trial?? Ferpetessake.

Wow, listen to Crier going on about the cement/anchors!

Six anchors! Five missing! So is the rest of the 90 pounds of cement; Scott told the police he threw it out because he he only needed one anchor, but the marks on the floor of the warehouse indicate he made SIX!!!!!

Why can't these guys understand that Amber Frey is not the point of the murder?? Scott peterson not wanting to be a father, and his marriage is the point. It didn't matter if he saw Amber 100 times or 1 time. It's not the point. peterson wanted his freedom. period.
