Geragos deconstructs prosecution's case against Peterson

Defense attorney: Fetus was born full-term therefore defendant's not responsible for murders

By Jason Dearen, STAFF WRITER

REDWOOD CITY -- Scott Peterson is a cad not a killer, his defense attorney said Wednesday as he began an assault on the very essence of the evidence against Peterson -- when his wife and child died.

In the scenario cast by attorney Mark Geragos, the child was born alive weeks after Christmas Eve 2002, the date prosecutors say his mother, Laci Peterson, had been killed.

"If this baby was born alive, clearly Scott Peterson had nothing to do with this murder," Geragos explained to the six men and six women of the jury. .......

Peterson's lawyer attacks investigators' work

By Brian Anderson

CONTRA COSTA TIMES

REDWOOD CITY - Saying Scott Peterson was "stone-cold innocent," defense attorney Mark Geragos blasted the police detectives Wednesday who investigated the murder of Laci Peterson and the thin case he said they cobbled together against her husband.

In his first chance to lay out his side of the case, Geragos said Modesto police believed early on that Peterson had something to do with his wife's Dec. 24, 2002, disappearance and they worked to prove only that. Through slipshod detective work, lies and far-fetched theories, they built a laughable case from circumstantial evidence that led to the prosecution of an innocent man, he said.

"The evidence is going to show beyond any doubt that not only is Scott Peterson not guilty.""......

REDWOOD CITY -- The same gravity that is holding together the "12 galaxies" apparently had enough pull to draw San Francisco's eccentric sign-toting icon, Frank Chiu, and others looking for a little collateral publicity, to the Redwood City Courthouse on Tuesday for the start of the Scott Peterson murder trial.

Parked near the courthouse in a van covered with biblical and anti-abortion messages, Ronald Brock of San Diego sought attention for his message that killing an unborn child, through abortion or any other means, is a crime.

"Murder is murder, give Conner justice," read a banner on the van. Conner was the name Scott and Laci Peterson planned to give their unborn child before a pregnant Laci disappeared in late 2002. Her husband is facing two counts of murder for their deaths.".....

Geragos: Peterson didn't do it

1:23 p.m., PDT: REDWOOD CITY - Scott Peterson had nothing to do with his pregnant wife’s murder - and his legal team will prove it, defense attorney Mark Geragos declared dramatically this morning during his opening statement.

“The evidence is going to show clearly, beyond any doubt, that not only was Scott not guilty, but stone-cold innocent,” Geragos told jurors.

Peterson, 31, of Modesto, came under media and police scrutiny after Laci Peterson vanished Dec. 24, 2002. But Peterson had no opportunity to kill her and their unborn son, Conner, Geragos said.

Evidence will show the baby was born alive, the Los Angeles lawyer announced in a series of revelations. They include:

Laci Peterson knew that her husband bought a fishing boat shortly before she vanished - and “was in the boat Dec. 20.”

The Petersons didn’t talk about the boat, even during......

Meringue issue is just on in a long list of lies that Snotty told that the State is laying out in their case.

Hang in there Neenah; I think the lib media is slowly loosing their credibility and I hope to heck the jury can see through the machinations of this sleazeball of a lawyer and his nastly little client, too.

I also hope that the Rocha's have a wrongful death suit going just in case, but seems like a freeper said they weren't going to-can't remember the reason tho'.

A lot of us have followed this case since Laci went missing, and we have as much info as the media would allow. On that basis, we armchair sleuths have indeed decided that the verdict that answers almost all questions best is that Scott did it. There isn't a whole lot of space for doubt, when you know all the details. Since we are NOT the jury, we may not have all the info or the right info. However, on the basis of the info we have, MY G_D is that man guilty. Sorry but true.

And if my son were up for murder and the evidence were this stacked against him, I would NOT defend him. I am not even sure if I would show up for the trial -- in fact, I would probably not. I don't know exactly how my love for him would change, but I know that I would probably be very hard on him if he were to have murdered my DIL and grandson. If the case were MUCH more ambiguous and I truly believed his innocence, I would support him but keep my mouth shut.

Now those were quotes from Catherine Crier!

I wish I could *see* it, too. It would make it so much easier to watch the trial, then go out and do our daily chores.

Now we have to sit around and wait for somebody to come or -- or go hunting for news!

The judge should have thought about us, right????

I just have visions of scott peterson racing down the road, boat swerving side to side, honking at people in front of him, flashing his emergency lights, and shooting the kerry finger at anyone who wouldn't pull over so he could get by. He had a phone call to make, so a search could get underway for Laci. Before dark. POS

The show came on at 9 PST; I'd love to know what time she mentioned meringue; evidently she was making cookies and only used the yolks and said something like "What shall we do with the egg whites? We'll make meringe." That was IT.

I'd love to know what time that was on the show, as I believe he was there cleaning up.

I've come to believe that Henry Lee talks that way as his schtick!! It's absolutely painful trying to listen to him.

I agree. I've noticed that a lot with accents and people who want to manipulate a situation. It has a certain effect on listeners and I think people like Lee use it as a distraction or a way of getting through some things without challenge.

I don't buy it. A hint of accent, yes, but as broken as he speaks.........no way.

Thanks for that excellent timeline.

Why can't they use those satellite surveillance photos to solve crimes? Wouldn't one of them have Scott shoving a huge bundle from his boat into the sea?

I've been thinking about that today; I don't think the search for that night was in his plan; I don't think he had any idea that Sharon would come out of the shute that fast on calling in the families, etc., and getting the search started.

Some of the family was at a Christmas dinner and literally got up from the table, left the food on their plates, and started searching.

Even Judge Napolitano seems impressed.

Read my lips ... just because someone is on the FOX network payroll it doesn't make 'em bright, much less infallible.

To launch the boat, motor out, fish, motor back, get the boat out of the water and leave

"Fish?" Would that be like Clark Griswold at the Grand Canyon??

I don't get all these people saying what a great lawyer Geragos is. IMHO he is not the brightest, all he's interested in is getting publicity.

As for Scott's parents -- I recall they initially insisted that Scott was a terrific husband.

It all depends on the amount and the temperature where the concrete is laid/used.
I would imagine, and this is just my best guess as I have only used quick set..a five gallon bucket would need at least 8 hours to set up in a moderate climate.
Set up enough so not to disintegrate when dropped to the depths of the bay.
I would think he let them set up at least a day or so, depending on how busy he was in those last days after he bought the boat.

But didn't he call Sharon and tell her Laci was missing, or something to that effect? why wouldn't he have waited until LATE before calling??

fortunately his accent is so bad that he is really hard to listen to.

I admire Dominick Dunne for pointing out that "Sell-Out" Henry Lee's accent is actually fake. Dunne has pointed out where in pervious cases that Lee does a Charlie chan impersonation and then waits for the laugh from the jury.

But he always sells out to the highest bidder.
