President Ronald Reagan Memorials and Funeral Schedule - Update on Changes & Details Throughout Day
Reagan Library and KNBC Live News Conference ^ | June 6, 2004 | Self

Posted on 06/06/2004 1:16:41 PM PDT by bd476

Although the Reagan Library/ Ronald Reagan Memorial online site has not yet updated details regarding official Memorial Service times, KNBC Los Angeles aired a live news conference at noon. Joanne Drake, director of the Reagan Library gave details of this week's schedule.

Today, Sunday June 6, 2004 - No Public Memorial event scheduled.

Monday June 7, 2004 - Public invited to Reagan Library in Simi Valley to pay last respects. Public can at park at Moorpark College and take shuttle buses to the Library.

Public access continues through evening (?) and until early Tuesday. President Reagan will be flown from Pt. Mgu Naval Base to Andrew's Air Force Base on Tuesday.

"Reagan's funeral will take place Friday at 11:30 a.m. EST at the National Cathedral in Washington, officials said Sunday." (KNBC)

This is a rough draft of the news conference. From Ms. Drake's statements, I had assumed that the details would already be posted on the Reagan Memorial online site.

The Reagan Library staff have been working hard for these past two days answering phone calls and handling an overload of press and citizen's inquiries, all while lending support to Mrs. Reagan and family members during their grief process.

Word has it that very organized plans for all of this were made a long time ago.

Details of times and further updates throughout the day.

Is there some official website where this Canadian can drop a line to Reagans and tell them how much his example affected me?

Right now, we are negotiating a Motor Home (air, refig, microwave) to have in the parking lot where FReepers can stop by get some refreshments and so on.

If we do this we (Bob J and I) will be there all day. And anyone else who is interested.

More details to follow.

Doug, we're trying to get one right now but most reservatiosn are closed. We found one close to us but will have to be there when they open because normally they don't allow pick up until 1pm.

If we can get a motorhomw, we will. If not, I'll pack a couple of easy up tents and we'll cordone off a few parking spots. At any rate, we will have an area to gather and it should be visible so people can find us.

D1 will be putting up a thread soon. We'll have some tables and people should bring munchies and beverages as it wil be kinda pot luck.

One other note, the minimum rental on the RV is 3 days and the cost will more than likely be on the plus side of 600. If we get 50-100 freepers, maybe everyone can throw in $5-$10 to help cover that cost some.

I'm curious about the shuttle service from Moorpark College, the press release says it ends at 5:00 p.m. yet I understand from the schedule that the lying in state continues through Monday night. I am debating trying to go to Simi Valley Monday afternoon/evening and am wondering what the situation will be for parking/transportation...

Thanks for posting all this.

There is no parking at Reagan Library. The "No Parking" began yesterday and continues for at least seven days, according to the website.

If visitors are still at the Reagan Library after 5:00 p.m., maybe the assumption is that the shuttle buses will continue transporting people from the viewing, yet conclude ferrying people to the Library at 5:00 p.m.
