Rush Limbaugh, Wife Set to Divorce

Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh announced Friday that he and his wife, Marta, are divorcing.

The Limbaughs "mutually decided to end their marriage of 10 years" and have "separated pending an amicable resolution," according to a statement released by Limbaugh's publicist.

The couple shared a $24 million oceanfront mansion in nearby Palm Beach, from where Limbaugh often broadcast his daily three-hour show.

Spokesman Tony Knight said the matter was personal and declined further comment.

It was the third marriage for both Limbaugh, 53, and his 44-year-old wife, who were wed May 27, 1994, at the Virginia home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas officiated the ceremony.

The past several months have been difficult for the politically and socially conservative Limbaugh, who announced in October that he was entering drug rehabilitation because he was addicted to prescription painkillers.

At the same time, West Palm Beach prosecutors announced they were investigating whether Limbaugh illegally went "doctor shopping" to obtain the pills. The practice refers to visiting several doctors to receive duplicate prescriptions of controlled narcotics.

Limbaugh, who has not been charged with any crime, has repeatedly fought back against the charges and negative publicity he's received over the matter.

Last month, he took out full-page ads in two Florida newspapers to attack prosecutors for mounting what he called a politically motivated investigation. He also regularly lashes out against prosecutors and reporters and defends himself during his show.

The criminal case against Limbaugh is on hold pending a decision from a Florida appeals court. It will decide whether the seizure of Limbaugh's medical records, which were taken by investigators in November, violated privacy laws.

Prosecutors say they need the records to determine whether to bring charges against Limbaugh.

I was going to post something last week that I thought Rush was having problems with Marta simply because he has not mentioned her in about 4 months.

Alot of people noticed that. It's not altogether uncommon for people with an addiction to divorce after getting cleaned up.

Or for someone to leave when they don't. Keep in mind the "official person" asking for the divorce is not necessarily the published one.

Rush just said he requested it, and I believe him. I have no need to speculate that he may be lying.

I made the same request of my ex-husband when he told his kids that we were splitting up. He made it sound to them like a mutual decision, but I insisted that he make it clear he was the one walking away. That's what Marta just did, and why he made that clarification this morning.

Translation:

"We believe what Rush says unless it does not fit our preconceived notion of what Rush would say."

Some of these folks here are really funny.

Well, was he lying that Friday then ? The concept of who wants a divorce is a complex one and can be answered many ways without lying.

For example, what if Marta said that she would leave him if he did drugs again. When he does drugs, she follows through and tells him they are divorcing. Its easy to see where Rush says its Marta wanting the divorce and equally easy to see that Marta thinks Rush made the choice by taking the drugs.

I didn't hear his show on Friday, so I can't answer to that. I do know that I'm not going to debate a question with you that neither one of us really knows the answer to.

Only Rush and Marta know that truth of what is going on. I suggest we leave it to them.

Rush said at the beginning of his show today that HE is the one requesting the divorce and that Marta agreed to it, and that the divorce is "amicable".

Ok, She is now 44, and they have been married 10 years. That means that she was married and divorced 2 times before she was 34.

We'll give rush a break, remember how huge he was 10 years ago, and to have a relatively young slinky thing interested in him? Hard to blame him. Problem is when you get older, all that are left is retreads. And everyone knows that retreads have a hard time staying together. They blow out and delaminate all the time, without any particular warning. And that goes for people retreads too! (no offense meant to retreads.)

That's serious, kind of like giving up religion!

That was part of my original point when you posited one potential that Rush was divorcing Marta because he changed after getting clean. Its just as possible the reverse is true and that Marta is leaving because he isn't clean. Either way we don't know but both could be true.

Okay. I was speaking in general terms, not specifically. But your point is well taken.

It'll all come out in the wash (or the book). :-)

"Inside sources say that she is leaving with a mere $150 million dollars, and the gardner Raul."

I missed Rush's show Friday, so its all new to me. Didn't Rush say today that it involves another person? Sounds like somebody was cheating. Hope it wasn't Rush, as almost of his Klinton ammo will go flat.

"Now tell me how any person who finds this acceptable can be an advocate for "traditional marriages"?

1. You're assuming that it was Rush that decided to end the marriages. Radio is not condusive to good marriages most of the time. Even advocates of trasitional marriage values have a hard time keeping a marriage straight in the rasio business.

2. I'm on my 3rd marriage and I still believe in traditional marriage values. What's your point?

Ok one question. How does any personal problems he might have had in the past make him a hypocrite in his support of the Republican platform and politicians who support it?

Are you perfect and have no problems in your life and if you have had personal problems in your life that go against some of your beliefs does that make you a hypocrite for beliving the way that you do?

You've hidden your pesrsonal jealously over Rush's success in a baseless criticism of his political beliefs.

Nice try, now go back to polishing your "LaRouche for President" buttons.

Have you thought that maybe Rush is mainstream conservative and it's YOU that is in the fringe?

He is mainstream, that makes him a moderate. By any objective standard of conservatism, he fails miserably. He refuses to talk about God, he's on his third divorce, he was a drug addict and didn't vote until just a few years ago. He only attacks the most extreme of the left and thinks that an interventionist foreign policy is cool. Oh I'm sorry, it's cool when a republican does it but not when a democrat does it.

Perhaps I am on the fringe, but that just shows how far to the left this country has gone in the last four decades, prior to which, no one would have confused Mr. Limbaugh with a conservative.

LaRouche is a pinko and I'm no Limbbot and hypocritos means actor in greek and in english too. Unlike you I give myself the freedom to trash both liberals and conservatives because I'm a radical. A conservative wants little or no change (meaning of the word), cowards really. I want huge changes after the hangings on the white house lawn, therefore I'm a radical.. check.. merely waiting for the mother all riots so we can deal with the anarchists too.

Have a nice day OR NOT..

Yeah your definition of radical...for normal people translates to Anarchist...if we're being honest.

Thank goodness that kind of twisted world view will never be dominant in anything other than some mis-guided protest of a G-8 or WTO meeting.

Reminds me of this one from the July 2004 Reader's Digest, page 131 submitted by Marsha Schauer:

A woman goes to the drugstore and asks for arsenic. "What do you want that for?" the pharmacist asks.

"I want to kill my husband," she replies. "He's having an affair with another woman." "I can't sell you arsenic to kill your husband," says the pharmacist, "even if he is cheating."

The woman pulls out a picture of her husband with the pharmacist's wife. The druggist turns pale and replies, "Oh, I didn't realize you had a prescription."

;-D
