Do DemocRATS hate President Bush more than they hate al Qaeda?

Actually, I would appreciate some help on this. I have been trying to come up with a cogent response to actually why the reactionary left has come to despise George W. Bush more than Al Qaeda. I happen to reside in the bastion of liberalism here in the California San Francisco Bay Area, and it just astounds me that millionaires who live around me support the left. Anyhow, the lefties here in the bay give the following argument:

Osama Bin Laden and Sadaam Hussein were supported by Republicans in the eighties. The USA under a Republican administration headed by Ronald Reagan actively gave weapons to Osama to fight against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, and the same administration support Sadaam's aggression towards Iran during the Iran-Iraq ten year war.

After both wars had been won or settled, the administration headed by George Herbert Walker Bush turned against these allies because Sadaam invaded Kuwait, and Osama renounced the House of Saud in Saudi Arabia. The former allies basically threatened our national security solely based on our dependence of the oil fields in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Regardless of the inaction of the administration of Bill Clinton, the administration of George Walker Bush now actively supports the House of Saud by providing them with the weapons necessary to fight their civil war against Osama's followers, and the Bush administration took over Iraq which is in shambles after the Abu Gharib prisoner abuse.

I must also add that these lefties do acknowledge that the 9/11 attacks were unjustified, but I now hear them justify the be-headings of Americans just because they are employed by US weapon companies like Lockheed. They figure these weapons companies are providing arms against a regime like the House of Saud to suppress freedom, not spread freedom.

The abuse at Abu Gharib was nowhere near the comparison of the brutal action of Al Qaeda beheading Americans, but it's almost impossible to explain to a left wing whiny that the abuse is not as awful, because they firmly believe that the violence is perpetuated by the report of abuse at Abu Gharib.

As for the House of Saud, the lefties take a position that is "sympathetic" to terrorists, just because the US is involved in the military protection of the House of Saud. They think Al Qaeda would not be provoked if the United States did not involve themselves with this civil war.

The arguments I have against these biases do not even make the lefties wink. They'll concede that the events of 9/11 should never happen again, but they honestly believe George W. Bush is perpetuating the atrocities against the US by waging this war against terror.

Is there any hope for a conservative like me to sway them otherwise? I'm beginning to think it is a fruitless cause

It's ALL about power, and the lack of it..Consider this fascinating tidbit..More than 55% of the Democrat members in the House have NEVER served in the majority..

Of course they do. It's not even close.

I think there are as many different answers as there are people who will vote against Bush in the Fall. But if you could talk to them, you would find that as they believe America is the strongest nation on the planet, and that it is their left-wing duty to restrain our might, al Qaeda is much less to be feared than "rogue" American power. Strictly speaking, this is true and conservatives should be concerned about using force where and when it is justified. However, to attempt to weaken this country will also lead to the need for to use force. The left and the isolationists normally want to wait until something terrible has happened to do anything; now they want to wait for even more terrible acts to be visited upon our country before they change course. Even then they will blame our quest for oil and hegemony for anything that occurs. To avoid conflict where it is inevitable is to invite it to mushroom. We know that. President Bush needs to explain to those who are sitting on the fence why he's using force in a particular region like Iraq. It's crystal clear to us on FR, but not everyone else gets it. The left thinks we lack justice in our cause. We believe defending our own freedom and lifting the veil of fascist and religious oppression is a cause as worthy as life itself.

Their blind, all-consuming hatred for Bush pushes any animosity they MAY feel for terrorists into a far corner. They are poisoned with it.

Perfect reply to the question. You write well on top your obvious intelligence.

Consider also that the "liberal" lifestyle is just more fun to live - sex, drugs, rock and roll. Bush stands for ethics, morality, work, respect for others, civil speech....things out-of-control, godless, drug-hazed liberals and democrats cannot accept.

The truth is liberals hate themselves. That is why they blame everybody but themselves. Whatever the problem is in the country or world, the left's short-sightedness has what got us there in the first place, IMO. They cannot take an honest look in the mirror and identify the problem.

Democrats hate democracy, free enterprise, and belief in God. Bush reminds them of these human rights, and the reminder makes Democrats very angry.

There is a mix of motivations for the Bush bashing.

One is the traditional election year stone throwing. In this the opposing party's job is to highlight every weakness of their opponent.

Another appears to be the rise of and takeover by the Left in the Democrat party.

And thirdly I believe Clintonism plays a part. Clintonism parts from traditional Democrat party politics in the sense that consensus among the party faithful is not sought, rather attacks on the opposition are preferred and accepted, in short a dictatorship put in place because of the evils of Christians, conservatives and republicans. I would say historically this has appeared because of their loss of power. I believe Ronald Reagan affected them like no other human being in the sense that he exposed their hypocrisy. The wake of his influence still exists in history and is carried on by other conservatives.

I do have trouble getting the mindset of liberals. In an attempt to get at what drives them I often ask myself why I recoil at Ted Kennedy or Hillary Clinton. I mean I have the same contempt almost hate for those people that they do for George Bush. What I come up with is my disgust at these people for insulting Americans by talking down to them and also their blatant lies. In short their lack of sincerity and their hidden agendas causes me to become angry and tune them out.

If Hillary were to become President in 2008, I would be very similar in anger and attitude to the hating Bush basher of today. But I can't see why they hate Bush. But I can see why I want to vomit when I watch the Clintons.

Personally I think we should encourage them to go conduct their negotiations with terrorists. It's not like we're forced to watch the beheading videos that will be the result.

I think that it is a good 'brainwashing job'.

Your post is almost word for word the average caller on talk radio. ( I don't watch TV, so hear lots of radio).

A few minutes ago, I listened to an hour long interview with some one named Bill Press, or that is what the name sounded like. He has a new book for sale, not something I will read, think the name was "Bush Must Go".

Jim Bohannon, countered every thing with facts and it went right over his head. He was following the script as it was
written and it sounded exactly as you state above.

Or maybe he is the script writer.

I hear many callers on talk radio, who are reading your script.

I am of the opinion that the script comes from the communist websites, that is where I find most of the anti- Bush opinions lead back to.

As far as the arguement regarding the Repubs helping UBL and Iraq at different times in history, it's always been and will be, done in America's best interests at the time. Take a look at our current relationship with Pakistan. Identical scenario. But, who knows what the future will be with them?

"...belief in God..." I think it goes deeper. Most Libs. in their "toleration" will give a pass to those who profess a belief in God. But if one proclaims that God is an active, alive, living force who works in the affairs of man - whether on an indiviual or national level - then that drives them over the edge.

If God is real and alive, then their sins (which they still have guilt enough to realize they have) will actually be addressed. But they try to hide their guilt by a belief that God is a mere mental construct of the stupid and weak minded. Their fear is tranformed into hate.

I am begining to believe that the differences between the parties is more of a moral stance than a political one. Hear me out for a second before the flames...

Both parties do like to control the news releases and each has there own spin. But when it comes to issues that define character which party to you line with?

Everyone wants or has thoughts on these:

Safety - Who would serve best to protect us?
Family- Who would serve best to make marraige not a penalty in regards to taxes, rights, etc?
Job- Who would have the best economic policy to protect jobs?
Taxes- Who actually has the better tax cut policy?
Religion- You cannot argue that following the 10 Commandments regardless of which faith shows character - who does that the best?

I could go on and on but in conclussion, maybe the liberal left hates Bush not because he is Republican, but what he stands for? If this is the case, what shortcomings the liberal left has.

Just a thought.

I think that everyone needs to start challenging the news media on distorted reporting regardless of the party affiliation. If we would start to do that, maybe the Press would get back to reporting just the facts...then again maybe donkeys will fly sooner!

Your observations describe what many of us feel. My husband loves to play racquetball and he plays at the site of his former job on staff at a small liberal arts college which employs a number of leftist professors. Two or three are his racquetball partners and they often have heated discussions about conservative/liberal ideas. My husband has been out in the trenches of the world, through military service and through the work he did with an oil company before he took the college job. He knows about human nature and he is street smart..A survivor. The impression one gets about the professors and their backgrounds is that their lives have been spent in safety and security, with all their education having been supported by the government or by well-off parents. They have captive audiences in their students who do not question their authority because of needing a grade to pass. Some of them learn quotes and numbers fast but their real problems solving skills are in NEVER-NEVER LAND. They would not survive what my husband has. I have often wondered how some of them would fare if they had to go out into the world, with their current credentials, to get a real job. Some would not be able to take it. The world would devour them without the security and tenure they hold. The destruction of nations, unfortunately, seems to begin in the "artsy" community and is finished off through academics who are allowed to gain a foothold of power so that they can censor and enslave the population. Your wealthy friends and mine like the feeling that they and their counterparts might be able to maintain their position of power to censor and enslave through liberalism. They do not want others to have the opportunity to become well-off because then, they might not be exceptional and dominant. It is a strange and selfish malady..An instinctual abberation, in my view and it takes the right kind of morality to overcome it. One thing is certain..When leftist policies, carried out over long years, destroy freedom eventually through professions, like academic, communications, and legal, it is the common folks, with the common sense who are called upon to send their sons and daughters to pay the price of spilled blood and lost life to gain it back..Those responsible only tear down..They never rebuild or regain what was lost. Forgive me for the length and rambling of this but "entheos" has touched upon something here I have often thought about.

I am of the opinion that their hatred is directly related to one issue: Religion.

Well yeah. By the mere fact that they pretty much parrot things that Al Quida has said against Bush and the fact that there is more condemnation of Bush than there is for these terrorists says it all.
