Re your post #40, I have lived in South Korea and I can tell you that the Iraqis don't know what they are getting their stupid asses into. The Koreans, if their politicians turn them loose, are capable of doing some rough things to their opponents...even without weapons. They can use their hands and feet to do all that needs to be done.

it is having a long-term psychological effect on us if they can keep it going. It's cheaper than a 9/11 but it's doing its work.

My thinking is precisely the opposite.

These "kidnap & behead" operations make it eminently clear that they have nothing left, and that they cannot/will not confront the enemy directly. Beheading unarmed innocents does not equate to "heroic jihadi martyr," it equates to "bestial savage." It does not reflect well on the people of Islam.

It's quite clear that Islamist operators in Muslim countries are rethinking anonymous and indiscriminate bombings, because those kill huge percentages of Muslims rather than infidels.

I'm still trying to put some articulation onto the notion that "capture & behead" is qualitively more disgusting and ignoble than a car bombing, even to Muslims. But it is, and I think this is going to backfire on the jihadi cowards.

Kelly,

Exactly my thought. I also worked with the ROKs in VN. They were not men of many words. When one would approach me and say, "Cigarette?". I just pulled out a couple for myself and gave him the pack.

Maybe so. But one thing is for sure, just like the USA, our ally South Korea has its share of some APPEASERS, who are taking to the South Korean streets now that this man has been put in such jeopardy. The join Michael Moore in their decadance and naivete and dimwit Service to Satan.

The local morning drive time radio show was playing an audio clip. He was saying that he didn't want to die. It tore my heart out.

Our morning show here in the Boston area played it, too. It was awful! But, I was wondering why he was speaking in English instead of Korean. Is he an American citizen? Or did the captors want him to speak in English because the "message" is one they want Americans to get? Or something else?

He pleaded for his life in English. I am sure he was instructed to do it in English. He is a 100% Korean citizen, but speaks some English.

You know, the salamikazes are working very hard to earn that "vermin" label. I don't think it's intentional -- I think they really believe they're going to scare our side into doing as they ask.

They're not going to like it when they cement the "vermin" image into the minds of those who are as yet unwilling to see the salamikazes in that way. They're not gonna like it at all.

Mike Emmanual on FoxNews: Polls in S Korea show the terrorists are getting what they want. SK people oppose sending more troops to Iraq.

Sounds like SK might go the way of Spain.

This is all the Al-Q has right now. A few abductions and some publicity stunts that cost one human life each. It will wear out its welcome soon, but for now, it's all they have.

AIT has already used the word: "Vermin." They're probably one victim away from being thought of that way.

"My guess is this mans death will make them mad and they will be inclined to hit back."

Well, I'm guessing here too, but if they keep this up over there, the American people are going to fired up again, and "unleash the kraken". You could tell that Bush was fired up about the Johnson beheading, and this will make his mad also...I mean genuinely pissed.

I don't see how we trust any of the middle eastern countries, there's a large evil streak running through that part of the world...and they call US, "infidels". Like the Japanese leader said after Pearl Harbor..."We might have just awakened a sleeping giant.".

Re: the picture of his parents.... So very sad. May God give them peace.

I hope and pray they'll let him go but it seems unlikely. Don't they seem desperate? Perhaps even more than before?

Let me rephrase: This particular ploy is having the desired effect on the media. But they won't show us pictures of these atrocities any more than they will admit that 9/11 happened.

My best musing hopes that these little ploys will overplay the hand of the terrorists, but I doubt it. Like self-destructive dysfunctionals in any family, they want a self-fulfilling prophecy to prove them right: they are oppressed and persecuted. Never mind how they got there. If we press our righteous case against them, we are the bad guys. A very big part of Al-Q wants the world to "bring it on." They have little else to live for.

AIT has already used the word: "Vermin."

Gives a bad name to vermin, who are useful to coyotes and other predators. I prefer a simpler term..."cowards".

The "keyword" cracks about "having a head" are disgusting and cruel. When we start making jokes about the vermin sawing a living human being's head off, we are going to slide into apathy as a society about such vicious and evil behavior.
