Is McCain a Fraud?
The Baltimore Chronicle ^ | June 21, 2004 | Russell Tyldesley

Posted on 06/21/2004 10:43:47 AM PDT by John Lenin

June 21, 2004--The conventional wisdom is that Senator McCain is off-limits to criticism. He is the quintessential hero--a decorated ex-prisoner of war in the Vietnam conflict. For awhile, the Kerry campaign flirted with the illusion that he could be added to the Democratic ticket as Kerry's running mate, making it a virtually unbeatable combination. To be sure, instant polls had a Kerry-McCain ticker winning in November in a landslide.

On June 19, before adoring troops at Fort Lewis, Washington, Bush received a full-bore endorsement from McCain, and, more importantly, a ratification of Bush's strategy in Iraq, including the obligatory "stay the course" rhetoric. The A.P. wire service reported this event, indicating that McCain's blandishments to Bush went far beyond the bounds of the merely perfunctory, and used language about the threats posed by terrorists and, before the war, by Saddam Hussein, "in words matching the starkest language Bush and Vice President Cheney have employed."

"Is McCain a Fraud?"

That's a dumb question.

Of course he is.

The Bush-Cheney dream team is in trouble, even with media support.

Tyldesley believes that the media is supporting Bush. I think that pretty much shoots his credibility.

Yeah, that figures. Now that McCain comes out for Bush, the media suddenly says he's a fraud. I think I see things more clearly: The media is a fraud.

The conventional wisdom is that Senator McCain is off limits to criticism.

NO politician is off limits to criticism.

McCain is, perhaps, more "like a Democrat" when it comes to domestic policies--or so goes the rationalization.

That's a valid argument.

This POW/MIA issue. Why during all the investigation that thousands of lost souls were left behind in WWII, Korea and Vietnam/Laos. Anyone who took this issue to heart (Sen Bob Smith (R) N.H.) for one were burnt for seeking the truth. Meanwhile McCain has sided with Kerry. Once a commie always a commie.

Is McCain a fraud? Yes. But the press likes to call him a "maverick". I prefer "beady-eyed political whore".

The Failed Seduction of John McCain

Kerry, it seems, spent the last three months begging Republican John McCain to run as his vice president. He didn't ask officially (whatever that means) but he asked seven times. "I don't want to formally ask because I don't want to be formally rejected, but having said that, would you do it?" an aide who ran messages between the two senators quoted Kerry's approach to The New York Times. Each time, each of seven times, McCain's answer was the same: an unequivocal no.

Hey, John, wanna be my veep?

No thanks.

I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that. So. Shall we print up some buttons?

No.

Come on, man. I need you.

Nope.

You're kidding! You know the Republicans will never nominate you for the presidency! They hate your ass!

Whatever. I said no.

Dude! Don't be like that. Yes is such an easy word to say. Say it.

Get a life, John. Don't contact me unless it's about legislation. Got it?

Look, I'll be honest. The CBS poll says you'll give me a 14-point boost if you join the team. I gotta have you. I can't take no for an answer.

No means no, John. No. No. No.

Hey, thanks, I appreciate it. I'll call a press conference for noon. Kerry-McCain 2004!

I'm getting a restraining order against you, you jowly bassett-hound-eyed freak!!!

Seven times. Has John Kerry lost his mind?

This guy has his panties in a twist because McCain is - ta da - a Republican who supports a Republican President. Imagine that! The author is acting like a woman scorned, and I love the little innuendo about "pardoning" Cheney and the "media support" for the Bush/Cheney ticket. Personally, I think the guy is a Nader/Camejo voter.

I see a bright future for John McCain if Bush is re-elected. He may be a maverick at times but he is our maverick !

McCain's service should be applauded. But why would we want a RINO to replace Cheney? Good Lord in heaven! If the media wants a liberal love fest like Kerry/McCain, why and the world would Republicans want a ticket that becomes MORE liberal?

You know, ever since the New Hampshire primary of 2000 and McCain's victory, I have seen the continual drone of McCain bashing here on this site. Prior to that date, however, he was one of the darlings of the GOP!
Can it be that "Dumbyah" is the real fraud? I say this because it really sickens me to know that come Jan. 2005 the most liberal politician this country has ever known will be in the White House...and I just wonder WHOM the most rabid FReepers will blame, good advice and service of men such as John McCain or the incompetence of GWB?
I am absolutely CONVINCED that the ONLY mistake of Ronald Reagan's GREAT presidency was the inclusion of a "Bush" on the ticket and the elevation of that surname's legacy! Here are just some of the blunders that that name made:

"Voodoo economics!"
Read my lips, no new taxes!
"We have won the (first) Gulf War; the Iraqi people will topple Saddam!"
"There is no recession on the horizon!"
"David Souter will make a great Supreme Court justice..."

(fast forward)
"They will welcome us as liberators..."
"We will find the WMD as soon as we get there!
"We don't need that many troops..."
"Mission Accomplished!!"
"Clinton really is a nice guy (last week)"<
