Will the flood of attention given to "Fahrenheit 9/11," which Lions Gate and IFC Films will bow in 868 venues, translate into boffo B.O.?
While Michael Moore (news)'s pic has dominated headlines this week, it's not the top dog going into the weekend box office race.
Continuing the summer's trend of midweek bows, Sony/Revolution's "White Chicks" opened on Wednesday, taking in $4.2 million from 2,412 locations.
Opening day results put pic, which stars Marlon and Shawn Wayans (news) as undercover white girls, on a pace to dethrone Fox's "DodgeBall" at the top of the box office chart this weekend.
Revolution partner Tom Sherak sees a tight race between the two laffers. "We should have a pretty good weekend," he said. "It's going to be close."
Last laffer with such a heavy Wayans presence was 2001's "Scary Movie 2," which debuted with $20.5 million.
Laffers that draw on young males typically drop in the range of 50% on their second week. That kind of perf would put "DodgeBall" at around $15 million, just slightly lower than industry expectations for the three-day take of "White Chicks."
But "DodgeBall" may hold up better than normal. Midweeks have been fairly strong, with the pic earning $5.6 million on Monday and $5.2 million Tuesday. When "White Chicks" opened on Wednesday, it still grossed $4 million.

If you must see the movie buy tickets to "White Chick" or anything else and drop into 9/11, uninvited so to speak.
"Will the flood of attention given to "Fahrenheit 9/11," which Lions Gate and IFC Films will bow in 868 venues, translate into boffo B.O.? "
Michael Moore already has boffo B.O.
Due to pre-release hype and publicity, most people who go to see Moore's film will do so more from curiosity than an actual desire to see it. His crockumentary has been so thoroughly debunked by reviewers on both the left and the right that only the dumbest of the dumb (liberals) will take it seriously.
The first read through of the title gives one pause.
The thought of anyone feeling amorous towards Mikey Moore gives universe shattering waves of nausea to the masses.
But the idea of Moore's movie Fartingheit getting it's, pardon the pun, butt greased by a Wayans comedy is hysterical.
Uh yes, the title of this article is somewhat questionable. Funny I guess. Would have been better if it had been the movie "Spiderman" instead of "Farenheit"...
"Will the flood of attention given to "Fahrenheit 9/11," ......translate into boffo B.O.?"
Already has. Lots of body odor.
But Tom Dashel said it was a great movie and all true!
You're probably correct. Which means the next week it will drop like a rock (from whereever it was).
I don't take top 10 too seriously, either. It mite crack the top 10, but in the modern age even being "#5!" is generally laughable. And it's usually all down hill from there.
Spiderman licks Fahrenheit..
*shudder*
I always knew there was something odd about that Parker guy!
On a somewhat serious note, it would be GREAT to see Moore have his considerable backside handed to him in the boxofice.
That is a very disturbing image.

I can't imagine anything more boring than sitting thru this so called movie
Intellectuals.
To begin with, (and only begin with), marketing a movie entitled Fahrenheit when it's 100 degrees out, isn't the smartest marketing move in the world.
