Kerry picks Edwards as his running mate, July 6, 2004. MANUFACTURERS DON'T LIKE EDWARDS [07/06 11:30 PM]
Senator John Kerry has chosen a running mate, Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, whose voting record in Congress demonstrates conspicuous hostility to manufacturing and business, said Jerry Jasinowski, president of the National Association of Manufacturers. As a trial lawyer, Edwards brings to his job an inherent bias against innovation and the American entrepreneurial spirit that is essential to compete and create jobs.
NAM Executive Vice President Michael Baroody said the NAM does not endorse candidates, but publishes a voting record of how legislators voted on key manufacturing issues, shares it with NAM members and encourages them to share it with their employees. Both Kerry and Edwards have scores in the single digits, he said. In terms of their lack of credibility with manufacturers, large and small, they are virtually in a league by themselves. EDWARDS PICK PROMPTS BUSINESS WAR ON KERRY [07/06 08:55 AM]
The Wall Street Journal: Tom Donohue, head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, has made a public vow: If John Edwards is chosen as John Kerry's running mate, the chamber will abandon its traditional stance of neutrality in the presidential race and work feverishly to defeat the Democratic ticket.
More: "Party wisdom that's been passed down by former Democratic National Committee Chairman Robert Strauss, and now resides with Democratic economic guru Robert Rubin, is that big business does matter to Democrats. To be successful, a Democratic presidential candidate doesn't need the active support of America's CEOs, but he does need to keep them on the sidelines. Jimmy Carter lost his bid for re-election at least in part because business was determined to dump him. Bill Clinton won election and re-election at least in part because the business community, while not strongly supportive, wasn't threatened by him."
Link doesn't work-I'm truly sorry...
It's about time business starts fighting back instead of being the cash cow for the parasite trial lawyers of Edwards's ilk. If I owned a business, I would let my employees know that higher taxes will cost jobs...perhaps their job...so they should be very careful when entering that polling booth.
Another thing, the dems are now missing two Senators..
It was reported here on FR on another thread that the Trial Lawyers Assn. pretty much dictated to the Dims that Edwards be the vp choice...
A new slogan: 20,000 trial lawyers have claimed more Aamerican jobs than outsourcing.
This is another "choose-your-enemies" compromise that was made by a major political party, using a complicated political calculus. The point is to inspire those who are likely to get out and vote for your ticket, and maximize the dollars that are contributed to your cause. Trial Lawyers make up in dollar contributions what they lack in actual voting numbers at the voting booth. The dollars, in turn, are used to purchase time on TV and to send foot soldiers out into neighborhoods, to do a one-on-one sales job for the candidate at the doorstep. The voting rosters have been scrutinized, so the foot soldiers have a pretty good idea with whom their sales pitch will work, and stay away from the troublemakers who will only go vote for the other person anyway. The dissidents in the neighborhood are thus lulled into not voting, negating the votes drummed up for your guy, and slightly improving your chances. This is a numbers game, and the Democrats have worked it well for years, even long after a voter has died. As the local machine properly surmises, these deceased would have voted Democrat anyway, so a surrogate is sent to vote in their names.
Is this fraud? Only if you get caught, and if the local DA is part of the machine, somehow this will not be noticed.
A lurch/opie ticket will scare a lot more people than it will inspire. This was a great pick for us.
Liberals and Democrats are economic parasites. They create nothing.
Uh oh. NAM is a powerful organization. This is good news.
Define "Big Business".
Unions shouldn't be thrilled with the Kerry/Edwards ticket, either.
Senator Kerry voted for NAFTA, Senator Edwards voted to give China "most favored nation" trading status (PNTR). Moreover, the unions' man, Gephardt, just got body-slammed.
Yes. Without a Ross Perot or PJB in the race
debate of trade, outsourcing and immigration issues will be a total farce.
