What DO Modern Democrats Believe??

Fellow Freepers, we need your help!

My husband, Cypherdog, and I are in a quandary which we are sure affects other Freepers as well. My husband's father and his uncle are lifelong democrats, but lately, they seem to be getting, well, just plain crazy. Uncle is going as far as to work for Kerry's campaign in Colorado and my FIL has several of Krugman articles about Joe Wilson posted on his web site. We have both sent them articles about how Joe Wilson lied, but their response has been "Please, no more of this oddly reasoned stuff. " Oddly reasoned?? How is the fact that Wilson lied oddly reasoned??

Anyway, these really are decent , honest, hard working men who love their families and whom we love very much. But DH and I can't figure out how to persuade them that they are, well, just wrong about a lot of their beliefs. And these men live in Colorado and Nebraska. Isn't this suppose to be the Heartlands and Bush country?

My theory is that they came of age during the 60's and still believe all that JFK "Ask not what your country can do for you.." stuff. I can understand old time, liberals/democrats as the party of the common man. But the democrat party of today seems far, far removed from what is was then. The problem is, what does the modern day democratic party believe? We can't figure it out. It seems that all they believe is that anyone but GWB would be a better president, but beyond that - Is there anything there??

Please, can anyone tell us what are the beliefs of the 2004 democratic party?

"Not by hectoring", "time and patience"

These elements seem to be common to those of us who have had folks come around. Anyone else have a story?

Hail to the King Baby.

Media propaganda is everything in politics.

Hollywood, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MTV, PBS, NPR, Time, Warner, Knopf, Random House, Verizon, NYTimes, Chicago Tribune, LA Times, Washington Post...

The Leftists own most all of American media.

With 2008, will come more of this:

1. The Internet, including Free Republic (they attempted to silence it with expensive lawsuits despite fair use legislation;
2. Talk Radio (they're already all over Rush, blamed him for OKC, and Air America was attempted as a counter);
3. FoxNews (just-released hit-piece movie OutFoxed);
4. Drudge (they tried with Sid Blumenthal, and ABC The Note was an attempted knock-off);
5. Steyn (new hit-piece just released);
6. Coulter (coming next);
7. Al Jazeera was just cleared from broadcasting in our neighbor to the north, Canada;
8. Media giants are now cross-marketing (Verizon/CBS, Time/Warner/CNN, etc. blitz a Sociailist subject and shove an artificial agenda down our throats without declaring their conflicts of interest, with impunity)

All we have left is William F. Buckley pondering clever debating retorts to this mafia gang-assault streetfight on free speech.

I know it's possible because I convinced my wife to vote for Bush.

It is possible. My sister has gone from Clinton-loving soccer mom to nearly a supply-sider.

I think stylin_geek made a great point. Most people get their information from network news, CNN, and late night talk shows. Those with more interest read Time and Newsweek. It's no wonder they think conservatives are mean and liberals care.

(I will try again)

The Leftists own most all of American media.

With 2008, will come more of this:

1. Crackdowns on the Internet, including Free Republic (they attempted to silence FR with expensive lawsuits despite fair use legislation);
2. Subversion of Right-Wing Talk Radio (they're already all over Rush, blamed him for OKC, and Air America was attempted as a Leftist counter);
3. FoxNews (just-released hit-piece movie OutFoxed);
4. Drudge (they tried to take him out with Sid Blumenthal, and recent ABC The Note was an attempted knock-off);
5. Steyn (new hit-piece just published);
6. Coulter (coming next);
7. Al Jazeera was just cleared for broadcasting in our neighbor to the north, Canada. Contemplate the implications of this when you consider 80% of Canadians live 100 miles or less from the American border;
8. Media giants are now cross-marketing (Verizon/CBS, Time/Warner/CNN, etc. blitz a Sociailist subject and shove an artificial agenda down our throats without declaring their conflicts of interest, with impunity)

All we on the right have is William F. Buckley pondering clever debating retorts to this mafia gang-assault streetfight on free speech.

Well, my girlfriend is a liberal "not-quite-admitting-to-being-liberal" type.

You are an amazing person!  I couldn't even date a liberal!

I should add that I myself am an ex-Dem. I voted for Dems because I was a union member and by god, union members voted for Dems...even though I disagreed with the direction the Dems were going in over the years. I'll admit it didn't take much to push me over to the Republican side, because I was a rare breed: a very conservative Dem. But I was, like many Dems, basically indifferent to politics and ignorant about many key issues.

Here's where the rise of conservative talk shows and web-sites played a key hand in my conversion. In short, the more I became informed about the way things really are (and not what the Big Media, The N.Y. Times and other liberal organs say it is) , the easier it was for me to make the decision to leave the party I had identified with for thirty years. Information is critical to convincing Dems of the wrongness of their political and social convictions. (And believe me after discovering the facts through diligent searching, it was a shock to find out that conservatives were right about nearly everything that afflicted the country, and libs were wrong about practically everything.) Again patience is needed. But it can be done: My wife and I are proof of that.

What do Democrats Believe in? This is hard because it changes almost weekly. I will give it a good try.

1. Bush is an evil bumpkin, the half child of Satan and must be defeated at all costs!
2. The Government is the only source of solutions to all problems. New Laws can save us!
3. Taxes are a way to even the playing field for all--The "Rich" are evil as they stole the money they have from the poor. Taxes can make things right.
4. People are all victims save white people who are middle to upper class.
5. Money can solve all problems. Money comes from Taxes.
6. All people on earth are good, brothers, only evil Republican cause other nations to not like us.
7. Oil is bad. Eco-power (wind etc..) can save us in less its too close to the Kennedy's resort.
8. Minorities--all of them--including illegals--are good.
9. Racism only exists in the hearts of evil white men.
10. Women are the best leaders because they love peace. Women should be given the right to kill their unborn children as a given--Its their right.
11. The State is everything and must be greater than the Christian Religion (other religions are OK ).
12. People need to be protected from evil white people.
13. Most people are stupid--and need all the help they can get or they will become exploited masses.
14. Sex, Character, honesty do not count--only what you say at the moment. What you FEEL is more important than what you do.

Hey, maybe you could add the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus to your list.

I noticed that the majority of the critters requesting that the UN oversee our election also belong to this group.

actually I bet if we put the Nazi Party platform from the 1930's side by side to the DNC plaform of 2000 we will have some verbatim comparisons. (is there a commie platform?)

Imagine the big screens at the RNC convention showing the DNC platform and the Nazi plaform using the same words.

I just posted this thread:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1172251/posts

"Soapbox Alert

It is time we vote our religious convictions! Enough is enough! We're sick of the party of Michael Moore, Whoopie Goldberg and Barbara Streisand! ...."

Seems to be written by an old-school democrat. The modern democrats may be losing more than the election!

You are an amazing person! I couldn't even date a liberal!

I used to think that way too. However, in Akron, Ohio there is a huge shortage of conservative, single women in their 20s. Those that do exist are either married or wouldn't give me the time of day in a watch factory. Plus, this girl is someone I've known for years. She's a great person but annoying when we talk politics...

I would argue that they are no longer Democrats but just don't know it.

The atomic bomb will be exploded at the Republican convention when Zell Miller speaks.

After he speaks many Democrats are going to feel very bad as they come to grips with the fact they are no longer Democrats. People with out a party.

So true. Please visit the thread I posted just above.
