Proposal to Have U.N. Monitor Elections Ends in Partisan Clash
The Washington Post ^ | 07/19/2004 | Dan Morgan

House Republicans view a recent move by 11 Democrats to have United Nations observers monitor U.S. elections as a politically motivated stunt, and last week they moved to nip the idea in the bud.

But after an unusually rancorous skirmish that brought proceedings on the House floor to a standstill late Thursday, the issue may have received more publicity than even Democrats hoped for.

It pitted Rep. Steve Buyer (R-Ind.), author of an amendment to the 2005 foreign aid bill aimed at blocking U.N. involvement in U.S. elections, against Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.), who had harsh words for Buyer.

Buyer had been describing a July 1 letter from Democrats to U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, requesting that he send observers to "monitor" this fall's elections, as "rather foolish, nonsense and silly."

Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) is a fascist punk. She doesn't particularly care if elections are even held ~ just that she get her share of the loot.

Gore's attempt to steal the election in Florida in 2000 should not be a UN issue. Our courts got things streight, even when the Rat kept the absentee ballots of our overseas service men and women from being counted. Thanks anyway Connie the Commie.

One of my biggest fears is that the UN would send Jimmy Carter in.

I'm not even going to read the rest of the article. Let me guess the POST makes it sound as if the GOP made a big deal about it. The POST apparently wants readers to think UN monitors are just a normal thing.

The way Rush imitates her saying "Coup de'tat" is quite hilarious.

I feel the same as you. Just don't want to even read the rest of the article. How dare they even consider asking the U.N. to monitor elections here? This is one repulsive idea that needs to be completely stamped out now, with no way of reviving.

The U.N. needs to stay out of America's concerns.

The Democrats in a panic... they don't trust Americans. Is this party we want to hand over the keys to the White House - to people who trust the UN more than they trust the people of this country? I know exactly what I think of their disloyalty and I hope the American people are being turned off as well.

FYI, the proposal was voted down:
By 243 to 161, the House then approved Buyer's amendment barring any U.S. funds from being used by the United Nations to monitor elections here. Thirty-three Democrats joined a solid block of 210 Republicans in that vote.

Brown said "we" stole the election. Yeah, right. Ya gots some proof of that? Even the commie-lead US Commission on Human Rights couldn't prove "we" stole the election.

"the House then approved Buyer's amendment barring any U.S. funds from being used by the United Nations to monitor elections here."

What about an amendment that totally bars the U.N. from monitoring any elections here? Can't someone bring up that legislation too? It should be written and voted on immediately to put a complete stop to this idea.

Another example of why I am done with this weak party after GWB gets re-elected this November. These clowns should be calling for the supporters resignation from Congress at the very least. I believe the 11 supporters to bordline traitors to their country and way of life. They should be held accountable.

Thank you Algore you piece of garbage. Thanks to you our elections will never be the same. The democrats will never accept a loss without nearly bringing down the constitution after gorey was allowed to pull of the sham he did in 2000.

It should be an issue for the US criminal justice system. Gore and his toadies, like Bill Daley, should be prosecuted for vote fraud and conspiracy.

If the UN were to ever do anybody any good they'd send monitors onto the editorial floor at the Washington Post.

Or, maybe just a couple of guys with machine guns at the main entrance to the WarshPost printing plant down the street from me would do even more good.
