hmmm...
thank you for the replies so far. At least my post was not deleted now. Thanks for that.
Yes I am Dutch and a paying member of our Green Left Party, which is in fact of the highest democratic standards, intelligent, pro-environment, and for a free exchange of opinions. To add: they stand for a good system of social benefits, care for the elderly, and a decent and accessible health insurance for everyone, which we (still) have. However, these venerable institutions are under threat from the current Dutch rightwing politicians, who have fallen under the spell of Marvin Olasky and Karl Rove somehow.
Going into Iraq was a horrific mistake. Doing so without the UN backing made it all worse. Doing so with some 25,000 'privatized interrogation specialists and linguists' (er...mercenaries IMHO) made it giga-bad.
So far, the upshot is that some 12,000 innocent Iraqi women, men and children have been killed, maimed, burned and evaporated, in addition to 1,000 coalition troops.
Meanwhile, no WMDs and no ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda have been established (according to US investigative committees).
Yes, you found out the sociopath Saddam. That is a plus. But it is perfectly possible that in the Iraq elections a triumph will be achieved by the Shi'ites and the Communist Party. Iraq well may be become a sister country to Iran. But hey, the USA wanted democracy, and may get it this way.
Where was the US when Rumsfeld was enjoying his tea with Saddam in the 80s while doing business, and the same dictator killed his own people by the 10,000s?
Dick Cheney is rightly looked upon as an outright war profiteer. He handed out contracts to Halliburton and KBR (his own people, to whom he will return eventually, no doubt) for re-building bridges and buildings which had yet to be bombed...
Meanwhile, Osama Bin Laden is still free. And Afghanistan is in rapid decline under the token US standing army. The warlords are in charge, and heroin production is sharply rising there. And the Taliban are re-grouping too.
America and Bush jr. had the sympathy of the world after 9/11. With a historic gesture Bush then could have united the whole civilized world and have undertaken a concerted effort against terrorism. To leave Afghanistan half-finished (thus sending it back to its old state) and going into Iraq, the result is that the USA have lost this worldwide sympathy wholesale. That is deeply saddening, because another route could have been taken. World terrorism has risen sharply after Iraq, this proves that the War On Terror is a debacle. Rest assured that it will remain thus.
Our own Prime Minister, mr Balkenende, chose to march along with Bush and Blair. He too lied about the available intelligence before the war, and eventually, be it shortly, be it in years, he will have to face the facts.
Mr Blair, incidentally, gave a new twist to British Law. Apart from 'guilty' or 'not guilty', he invented the 'I Acted In Good Faith' escape phrasing. Unbelievable.
The only good thing to come out of this mess, this Pandora's Box that the West opened, is that George W. Bush will not see a second term as President. The polls are not in his favor anymore, and never before has a President been able to re-gain the precious 'swing voters' in so short a time span, surely not with the economic figures being what they are.
I'll raise a toast to John F. Kerry then. Cheers!
The artist formerly known as the leftist Dutchman.

which is in fact of the highest democratic standards, intelligent..
That's about where everyone stopped reading.
Yousee, liberals are not intelligent and have proven that repeatedly.
They believe that AIDS is caused by lack of money, not sex with infected people or IV druguse.
They believe that the UN, an entity that cannot even use a bathroom without making it a committee decision complete with bribes and kickbacks, can save the earth.
They believe that terrorists who killed thousands of people simply because of pure hatred can be suddenly reasoned with and will leave us alone if we leave them alone.
(We left them alone throughout Bill Clinton's Stench in Orifice, we got 9/11 as a reward.)

"no WMDs and no ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda have been established"
Bullshiest.
Sarin binary chemical mix in flight shells of new manufacture were found.
Sarin is a WMD.
Get over it.
"evaporated"??
How, pray tell, does one 'evaporate' men women and children?
What's your source on that you lying little wretch?

Hi, TAOTAO from BRUSSELS BELGIUM who may or may not in fact be 22.. maybe 21 years of age.

Ya see Sparky, all that is called socialism. We want no part of it here, although it is being forced upon us. We are more interested in freedom.

But it is perfectly possible that in the Iraq elections a triumph will be achieved by the Shi'ites and the Communist Party

Yes that is possible where people are free to decide thier own future, but extremely unlikely. People tend to vote freedom.

As for the rest of your comments, I will leave to others to take apart with this observation: You are spouting the lies of a corrupt globalist socialist media. You would do well to consider your sources and thier agendas.

So, what should we have done after 9-11, continue to do nothing as Clinton did nothing and then run away as the French, Germans and the Spaniards have done?

Did the US and it's allies do the right thing by saving your ass from Hitler?

"Going into Iraq was a horrific mistake. Doing so without the UN backing made it all worse"

Lies, complete lies. If your government allows you access to UN documents, then look up UN resolution #1511, which says the following:

"authorises a multinational security force, and urges states to contribute to it and to the reconstruction of Iraq (para 13 & 14). Requests states to contribute financially (para 20), including at a Donors Conference (para 21), by providing required resources (para 22) and by transferring assets of the former regime to the Development Fund for Iraq (para 24) "

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA had UN AUTHORITY to go into Iraq. Your panty waist neighbors, France and Germany didn't want us there because they were making billions off of Sadaam's corruption and off their WEAPONS SALES to Iraq.

Are you aware that Saddam frequently killed his own people? How many would have died had we let him be? So, you trust Saddam more than President Bush? If so, think about that real hard for a few minutes.

Check this twirp out!
He says this in post 55:

I guess troll-boy here doesn't read the news -the real news- coming out of Iraq?

"Where was the US when Rumsfeld was enjoying his tea with Saddam in the 80s while doing business, and the same dictator killed his own people by the 10,000s?"

This guy is 'amorph' in retread form, isn't he?

"I'll raise a toast to John F. Kerry then. Cheers!"

Yup, he's toast..

The only historic gesture that you leftist Europeans (or any of you libs, of any nationality) would be satisfied with is if Bush bent over and spread 'em.

How does the word "surrender" translate in your native tongue?

To leave Afghanistan half-finished (thus sending it back to its old state) and going into Iraq, the result is that the USA have lost this worldwide sympathy wholesale. That is deeply saddening, because another route could have been taken.

The only thing deeply saddening is the left’s fantasy state of mind.
To leave Afghanistan half-finished …Where did you come up with this fantasy?
1. We have NOT left Afghanistan.
2. The fight with what is left of the Taliban & hunt for OBL did/does stipend off troops needed in IRAQ. The US Armed Forces can take care of business in both countries simultaneously. Just because Dutch forces couldn’t do it doesn’t mean ours can’t.

USA have lost this worldwide sympathy wholesale… More fantasy, you watch too much TV. Just because the leftist media, hope & wish it were so doesn’t make it so.

Sorry, bub. I don’t have time to straight you out line by line. I’ve leave that to others. I will give you 2 points for replying, but sorry, you still do not win Troll of the Month.
