NEWS RELEASE

McCARTHY TO SPEAK AT CONVENTION; 'DEMOCRATS SHOW TRUE COLORS...AGAIN,' SAYS CCRKBA

By offering rabidly anti-gun Rep. Carolyn McCarthy a plum opportunity to promote legislation expanding the ban on so-called "assault weapons" during their convention next week, the Democratic Party is once again showing its true colors to millions of American gun owners, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today.

"For months, everywhere you turned, Democrats have been out hustling gun owners for their votes, trying to portray themselves as pro-Second Amendment. Giving McCarthy a microphone proves Democrats haven't abandoned their failed gun control policies," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. "What would the press be saying if Republicans allowed a recognized gun rights proponent like Rep. Don Young to urge his colleagues to let that ban expire?"

McCarthy's husband was murdered by a deranged racist gunman named Colin Ferguson, who also wounded her son in a shooting on a commuter train in 1993. Ferguson did not use a so-called "assault weapon" in that crime, but a handgun he purchased in California-a state with some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation.

"Democrats may as well erase any credibility they may have gained among gun owners over the past two years," Gottlieb observed. "So much for John Kerry's pheasant hunting and skeet shooting photo ops with borrowed firearms, or any other lip service that Democrats are offering gun owners back in their districts. Allowing McCarthy a forum to campaign against the firearms rights of millions of law-abiding Americans in the middle of their national convention should tell firearms owners all they need to know about the true Democrat agenda."

Gottlieb said he was "disappointed, but hardly surprised" that convention planners and party leaders are giving McCarthy the podium. In balance, he suggested, Democrats should also offer retiring Georgia Sen. Zell Miller equal time at the microphone to tell his fellow Democrats why they are wrong to to campaign for irresponsible gun control measures.

"If there were more Democrats like Miller, and fewer like McCarthy," Gottlieb stated, "the party would not have to be camouflaging its true sentiments behind borrowed shotguns and hunter orange. We're urging all gun owners to listen to McCarthy's speech, listen to the applause it elicits from the party leadership, and then decide whether Democrats deserve to be trusted with their Second Amendment rights."

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

Glad to hear it. Gun control killed Algore's chances.

After speaking out against guns, the Dems should next speak out against the Pledge of Allegiance...either will cost them about as many votes in November.

AHH! The b-tch who represents my old CD! Makes me pine for the days of Ray McGrath or even Dan Frisa.

My guess is that she won't get prime time coverage. She aint exactly the most telegenic or articulate member of congress.

Hopefully, James Garner will take her out in November. That is one of our prime pick-up opportunities.

Speaking of contested races, what do you think are Bill Manger's chances against Tim Bishop in the 1st CD? And is Frank Barbaro someone about whom Vito Fossella should worry? Barbaro once ran for mayor of NYC, so you probably know a lot about him.

Mr. Barbaro is a has-been who is considered a joke even by most Democrats I know. He is the sacrificial lamb in what has become a solidly Republican district.

I have a sinking feeling that Bishop is going to hold on by his teeth, although I have an aquaintance in the North Fork who is doing his best to get the GOP vote out this time (low GOP turnout in Suffolk in the last election).

That they will not do, they've got the Courts and the trial lawyers for that. Grabbing guns mostly requires legislation, and that is their baliwick. They do try to do it at times of crisis, if they can manufacture one, and even then they often pass the bills in the dead of night, with questionable legislative techniques (ie. lack of a legitimate quorum, passing them "without objection" when there is no one present to object, and so forth)

"Gun control isn't about guns. Its about CONTROL!"

Ain't that the truth. Liberal issues only work one way. Don't you just love it.

So maybe she will get up there and says something nutty. This could be good.

If John (bullet ban) Kerry gets elected, the AW ban will look like a good beginning.
