Funny, I thought that rattlesnakes were only native to the Americas. How could Arab archers use stell tipped arrows dipped in rattlesnake venom before the discovery of the Americas, and before steel had ever been smelted? Iron, perhaps, but steel? No freakin way in h-e-double hockeysticks.

Oh, and if these flying carpets were anti-magnetic, what allowed the user to control their altitude and direction of travel?
This is just naother loadum of hokum.

When a prisoner told them that these contraptions were more agile than the steppes pony (a blasphemy to Mongol ears, if ever there was one), the great Khan beheaded him and had his skull made into a drinking mug. He ordered all flying carpets in his vast empire confiscated. And thus was the end of arab air supremacy.

not entirely a load of hokum. in fact, i own one ... an afghani bohkara. viewed at the right angle, and in the proper frame of mind, it acts as a single image stereogram, and the carpet does indeed appear to float approximately two feet above the ground. the effect is astonishing; frankly, i nearly dropped my drink the first time i noticed. it is now an after dinner parlor trick in my home.

I'm selling a bridge in Brooklyn. Anyone interested in purchasing a slightly used bridge? Tell you what, I'll even throw in a few flying carpets.

Rattlesnake venom on arrows? Hmm. They must've flown it in from the Western Hemisphere on their carpets because there aren't rattlesnakes anywhere else as far as I know.
"The official line was that man was never intended to fly, and the flying carpet was a sacrilege to the order of things," eg. If God wanted man to fly he wouldn't have invented carpets.
Are we SURE this article is a translation from an ancient Persian document?
