Washington, DC - Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie today announced the addition of Anne Phelps and Ginny Wolfe to the 2004 Republican Platform Committee staff. Phelps will serve as Executive Director and Wolfe as Communications Director for the 2004 Republican Platform to be chaired by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D. (TN), Congresswoman Melissa Hart (PA) and Colorado Governor Bill Owens.
"We are fortunate to have such talented people join us as the 2004 Platform Committee works to craft a proposal that reflects the president's goals and the beliefs of our party," said Mr. Gillespie. "Both Anne and Ginny bring years of policy expertise and communications experience to the task at hand and will play an important role in making sure this year's platform reflects the priorities of the Republican Party."
Anne Phelps, the Committee's Executive Director, is an experienced policy advisor and veteran of Republican politics. From 2001-2002, Phelps served as Special Assistant to President George W. Bush for Domestic Policy. In 2000, Phelps was a member of the Republican Platform Committee staff. Phelps was previously chief health advisor to Senator Bill Frist, M.D., and staff director for his health subcommittee.
Ginny Wolfe, a veteran of political conventions and congressional campaigns, is a long-time Republican communications strategist and former Counselor to Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist, M.D. Wolfe served as Director of Communications for the National Republican Senatorial Committee's (NRSC) successful effort to regain the Senate Majority in 2002. In 2000, Wolfe served as Communications Director for the Republican Platform.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (TN) will serve as Chairman of the 2004 Platform Committee. Congresswoman Melissa Hart (PA) and Colorado Governor Bill Owens will serve as Co-Chairs. Following a tradition set in 1968, the Chairmanship of the Platform Committee rotates between governors and members of the House and Senate. The Platform Committee, also known as the Committee on Resolutions, is comprised of one male and one female delegate from every state and territory.
