You evidently were never able to muster the talent to play an instrument. Thats OK though...there's always a need for laborers. And you geeks are still as bitter as always. Im doing quite well at a Logisitcs company thank you...

Clearly out of touch.... Marching Band is now competitive. At our local school they get varsity letters for it. Its appropriate too. They practice harder and longer than any other sport and have a better record than any of the athletic teams. Its also one of the few quality programs they have there.

Clearly out of touch. Clearly you are overly defensive and unable to take a common known joke (think blonde jokes).

School principal Willie Goldsmith told NBC13 that students had held a moment of prayer for the teenager. "Additional charges are being prepared for those who participated".

I take exception to this. Marching band is a competitive sport these days, and one of the better environments in most schools. Our program has produced a number of music scholarships and has several people accepted into the various military bands. cRap performers lack either the discipline or abilities required to participate in a competitive program.
Additionally, at least in the local program, personal responsibility and contribution to the common good is taught as a good thing. One of the few places I have seen that in the gov school system.

Of course there are always exceptions. I went to a public school near an urban area. Rap star wannabes were 90% of the people in our band.

Actually, they've been doing that for years. I have a band jacket and one for baseball/basketball/etc., and I haven't seen either in years.
If you want to talk about long practices, try being in band, play football/basketball, compete in debate, and still manage to do homework. 6:00 was the earliest I left school on most days. I couldn't wait for baseball season since by district, that was about the only thing I had going on.

In a side note the ACLU is bringing up a lawsuit to make sure that children will not be "offending" others by that nasty habit of praying in public.

School principal Willie Goldsmith told NBC13 that students had held a moment of prayer for the teenager.Rut-row. Willie might get fired or the ACLU will shortly file a lawsuit for this unauthorized prayer in a government public socialist school!!!!

"I can't help imagining the smile on Feinstein's face upon reading this news." ...and the Brady Bunch, of course. Along those lines . . .
NEWS FLASH!
In a related story, Sandstone Burger, a mole connected to the previous administration, was charged with spiriting the AWB Renewal Bill out of the House and inserting it at the end of a 10,000-page document sent to the Congressional Record for publication.
Amos "Specs" Soma, a proof-reader at the Government Printing Office became suspicious while viewing the names affixed to the AWB Renewal document. Soma said he noticed that the names of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and John Hancock were clear forgeries and alerted officials immediately.

Why aren't they on summer vacation? Who has band practice in early August? The really, really "competitive" bands, I suppose. Or, maybe their high school football team has taken a cue from the NFL and NCAA, and the first game is before Labor Day, necessitating earlier practice for the band, too.
