I used to hunt caterpillars too, but never used a gun and decoys.

"I track and move and decoy and play games and try to outsmart them. You know, you kind of play the wind. That's hunting.
Think Kerry is confused; maybe having a 'flashback' rather than a hunting recollection. . .

Seems to be fascinated by the end of the barrel. . .'whats that little thing there on the end?'. . .think Kerry was sensing trouble in his body language with his own gun when pict was taken. . .so thought he would just be preoccupied for a moment on the barrel next to him.

how is it in every 'action" photo, Kerry always manages to look like a dork?

"It would be interesting to know what hunting licenses,if any,Kerry has had and in what years he had them."
Surely there are records. ..somewhere.
. . .and perhaps a inquisitive journalist might ask him his favorite places to hunt. . .or to name a favored 'guide'. . .or who he hunted with and when. . .
or. . . whether he ever got past 'playing the wind'

Because they're always posed.
Watch for a flag or other specially prepared backgrounds...
And note his gun barrell is NOT blury, so he is not swinging around
quickly, yet look which way the dog is pointing!
Dorky IS as Dorky does.

What I find most interesting about this photo is that not only does Kerry not know how to hold the shotgun (note the thumb over the barrel), if he fired it in that position, he would probably be knocked on his butt. He needs to support himself against the kickback, and he, most assuredly, is not.

Good observations, thanks.
I had noticed he wrapped his hand around the barrel and blocked the sight.
I wondered if that would hurt his hand when it fires.
I hadn't noticed though that he is NOT at all preparing
for a kickback, and he WOULD fall backwards! good eye!!!

Might just be a regional thing but when I hear double barrel,I think of a side by side.
In my experience,if you're talking about an over-under,that's what you call it.
